Jeez man you’re not the first new father that has had to work away. It’s shit, what new father wouldn’t want to stay with their newborns right?

Winks wants to be at home with his newborn, so do you. He can afford to be, you/I cannot.

get over it. I  Don’t understand the hate, and bitterness.

It’s just the general entitlement he plays for Leicester City, maybe be in Leicester. It’s really no wonder some of these players have no connection of affinity to the area, they aren’t invested in it. How can you fight for a represent a city you have only ever been to on an open top bus tour?If he wanted to be based down south sure MK Dons would have him, maybe the wage would be a bit less but it’s all about the fam right?!

This never made any sense though. If time away from the family was the reason he refused to stay overnight at the club, why was he purposely choosing to spend so many hours driving?
If spending time with the family was priority, you'd buy a house 10 minutes from Seagrave.

But saying "I refuse to spend an extra 12-14 hours at Seagrave I have a young child" whilst simultaneously choosing to spend somewhere around that amount of time driving every week, the maths were not mathing and it came across as an easy excuse. Move to Leicestershire, live 10 minutes away, problem solved.

Because his wife probably wouldn't want to move away?

Its almost like people have conveniently forgot all the abuse him and his family were getting from ‘fans’ after Ruud threw him under the bus for something that was completely irrelevent. Then they wonder why he doesnt want to go and celebrate with the fans 😂

Why would a few comments on social media have an impact on a player celebrating with the fans?

If all footballers took social media comments to heart then no players would be celebrating after they score lol

If that's why he is sulking then he needs to toughen up a bit!

He wants to be at home, but chooses to drive 4 hours per day....

I also don't like the hate and bitterness at all especially when it's in the form of personal abuse, I just think it's best for the club that if we had say £7m to replace him we should.

Football and life has changed. Players don’t play “for the badge”, to many fans have this expectancy that players will

be invested in The club and the area. The sooner you/i/they get away from that, the better.

Maybe as others have said his wife is settled where they are. Maybe he has a good family support network where he lives? I don’t know…

but post above off “his family should just move up here” or “he can afford 5 houses” is bonkers.

I think he is to important for us this Season to let go.

Right but this isn't a discussion about what Harry Winks wife wants, it's a discussion about whether he didn't want to stay overnight because he wanted to be with his newborn and wife, of which the numbers never added up, because he's probably spending the same time travelling as he would be if he was overnight at the club.

If he lived 1 hour away then I'd fully understand, but he doesn't it's a 4 hour round trip allegedly, 5 days a week.
Again I'm not arguing that Ruud was right to treat him the way he did I thought both handled the situation poorly, I'm just saying this argument that he refused to stay because of time away just doesn't make any sense.
I feel sorry for Winks if your theory is true, massively limits the amount of clubs he can sign for.

Have we had an offer for him?

Well if his wife didn’t want to Live in Leicestershire he probably should have never signed for Leicester, I dunno maybe crazy!!? It just seems wrong. First season I liked winks, I still think he’s a decent player but he needs to draw a line in the sand or **** off, no point moping about.

It is very different to being gone overnight though

Sounds like he can't win. I hope he doesnt sign for Celtic then, poor guy won't even need to switch the engine off.

Going forward though, I would like to see the club mandate that players live locally, it just makes sense.

What about the likes of Schmeichel, Drinkwater, Simpson and the other who lived in Cheshire or wherever it was and commuted everyday?

Or is it different because they won stuff and have a "legacy" at the club?

They performed on the pitch

Arguably last season Winks didn’t (along with many), it wasn’t unreasonable for a manager to question that and do whatever he thought might help.

Can he deliver now? Maybe, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if he gives his all which he did at the weekend.

Point about him staying over was that it’s not healthy the amount of commuting he’s doing.

Thursdays are a big tactical training session dsy at most clubs. Him staying over for that session made decent sense; not only for the football club but his own health and well-being.

If you perform it's OK, it's that simple really.

The whole spat with Van Nistelrooy happened as a consequence of that stinker Winks dropped against Everton, some further commitment was needed to get him up to standard.

I think there was a bit more then ‘a few comments’. He was getting dogs abuse after that photo of him out with his mrs on the day of one of our games

Right now you're completely right, if he left today and we ended up with Skipp and Soumare as the 2 I don't think we will go up, with Winks in the squad I think we can. 90k a week is a lot of money though.

All the ifs, buts, and maybes with the Winks/RVN situation are completely pointless.

He signed a contract, his employer tried to get him to do something that wasn’t specified in the original contract. It’s as simple as that.

It’s a job at the end of the day. Family always comes first. Just because they earn millions a year doesn’t mean they’re exempt from having rights under employment law.

I’d hazard a guess every footballers contract requires time away from home surely for away games?

I mean what does he expect?! He’s payed a lot of money to play for and represent the club, he should have been fined.
