49 years on, those goals still make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

Amazing quarter final when the FA Cup really meant something.

Why are QPR in red?.

Not sure if it was because of a colour clash - with both our first and 2nd kits.

Although it's also worth noting that in the FA Cup in the early/mid 70's, there was phase where both teams changed colours if there was a clash.    You'll find quite a few games where both teams have changed strips.   For example in 1975 4th round Middlesbro v Sunderland both changed (Middlesbro all blue, Sunderland all white)

You can understand why they opted for the league's first artificial pitch.

Mind you, did you ever see the Baseball Ground?!

Because it gave them a massive advantage. Same as Luton.

I was there at Loftus Road - as I was at Luton and Old Trafford (for the semi v Liverpool) on that cup run - my first ever away games.

I remember standing near the tunnel and Barry Davies came out and I think he had to walk round the pitch to get to his commentary gantry. Fans were giving him stick but he was smiling. No one knew then that he would soon come up with that never to be forgotten phrase.

Back at school over the next few weeks every time someone scored in the lunchtime kick-about it was “oh yes for the youngster!”

ah the memories…
