Nationwider Posted 8 December 2005 Posted 8 December 2005 I'm considering getting an iPod (probably a Nano or a Mini). Does anyone have any particular flavour of iPod and if so, can you recommend it, or should I go down the generic mp3 player road (Sony, Creative, iRiver etc...) I use iTunes already to download and play music from my PC - should I take the plunge and commit to a lifetime of Apple, or run for the hills?
Libertine Posted 8 December 2005 Posted 8 December 2005 Run! Just joking. I heard that it's quite hard to actually put the music on to an iPod. Creative Zens all the way for me.

That's what worries me, as I'm a Windows chap. iPods seem tres chic, but I don't want a load of hassle. I just want all me best choons with me in the car. Ta. Any others?

Matt Posted 8 December 2005 Posted 8 December 2005 I got a normal iPod, 20gb...I was conned by the twat in the shop to buy the 20gb (He said "ah but you don't get a dock with lower than 20gb iPods" and I said "Well do I really need the dock" "He said yes you can do blah blah blah without the dock" so I bought the 20gb...You don't need the dock at all I hardly ever use the dock!) Anyway yeah iPods are good, i'm happy with mine its easy to use, However now I think there are better things than iPods about now compared to when I bought my iPod.

I would rather get a 20 GB than a Nano, they have been known to break easily. For what it is worth I have 20 gig creative zen, it is brilliant but ugly in comparison to an Ipod.
Bert Posted 8 December 2005 Posted 8 December 2005 I'm tempted to get the new 60gb playback iPod... My mate has got a 60gb pod where you can play your videos on! and for how small the screen is the resolution of the videos are quality! I POD ALL THE WAY!!
FoxInTheSnow Posted 9 December 2005 Posted 9 December 2005 my 30gb colour ipod is the best thing i own.......it is the sex
Benji Posted 9 December 2005 Posted 9 December 2005 it's decided, i'm paying half my parents the other for xmas, getting it tomorrow
Benji Posted 11 December 2005 Posted 11 December 2005 i've had the 60gb for a day now and its brilliant the picture for music videos really is the dogs.. amazing technology
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2005 Posted 11 December 2005 I've got a really old Creative Jukebox thing with 10gb hard drive I think. It's huge!
Matt Posted 20 December 2005 Posted 20 December 2005 I'm gonna get an iTrip so I can play my iPod in my car, My mums gonna give me the money and i'm gonna buy it, it'll have to be after christmas now. Now, anyone got an iTrip? Are they good? Good signal, e.t.c? Because I don't wanna buy on and find the signal crap (I.e - Crackling, e.t.c) and I don't wanna have to be re-tuning even 5 minutes. But as far as I can see iTrip's seem to be the best things if you wanna play your iPod in your car because they are removable and your iTrip doesn't just work in your car.

I have one and its ok, wont have to retune for months and then every now and then it happends every five minutes

I'd get the Belkin car kit with the Casette thingy if you have a tape player, otherwise get a new car stereo with a line in on the front.
MC Prussian Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 I had a 6GB iPod until it got stolen (among other items). It's a handy accessory, with a rather unfamiliar user surface that has to be learnt first (the wheel is a bit weird, but once you got it, you got it) and a nice software called iTunes, which is not very user-friendly. I had several incidents where the program wouldn't load new songs onto the iPod, even though everything was connected properly. I always had to wait until the next update and things went smoothly again. It's one of a kind. It's usually quite expensive (compared to other MP3 players), but still the only one that allows you to listen to MP3 songs on your car stereo (with the appropriate cable). And the additionnal equipment is even more expensive, if not a rip-off. Apple's customer service is also not recommended. I have made bad experiences. I also heard that the new iPod Nano have a huge problem with surface scratches that happen very easily. I, for my part, will wait for a cheaper alternative like the Creative Zen, who costs about 70% of what an iPod does.
Matt Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 I'd get the Belkin car kit with the Casette thingy if you have a tape player, otherwise get a new car stereo with a line in on the front. Got a CD player, my car had a Cassette before I bought it but I paid £200+ for my CD player, so I son't like the idea of buying another one.
Anish Posted 24 December 2005 Posted 24 December 2005 Get the new Walkman! Have you got one? I've got the Sony Vaio MP3 player which is the older version of the Sony Walkman. I love mine to bits cos it's got 40gb h/d and you can add colour pics and everything - plus it was much cheaper than the equivalent ipod when I bought it about 4 months ago. The headphones weren't great so I bought some Sennheiser ones but now the sound quality is superb. The only problem that I have is the Sony SonicStage software is so slow and crappy, and it's a bit slow to update the songs on the mp3 player once you've transferred the files. What's the Walkman like?
Matt Posted 26 December 2005 Posted 26 December 2005 Is there anyway to backup your iTunes? Because my PC went dodgy a few weeks ago and i've just got it fixed but the bloke who fixed it had to delete all my files...iTunes/My Music was one of the files/programs, I had all my music on my iPod, and though I could just sort my music when I plug my iPod in, I've just plugged my iPod in to my PC, and i've just looked on my iPod now...Music ALL gone Just in process of putting all my CD's and music back on to iTunes now

Matt Posted 27 December 2005 Posted 27 December 2005 I just thought it would be the same as a digital camera, The iPod would upload my music onto my PC in the same way a digital camera uploads photos to the PC......was obviously wrong
