Leicester signed Abdul Fatawu on loan from Sporting Lisbon last summer after he failed to impress in their C team after his FREE transfer from Ghanaian 2nd division side Steadfast FC.

The Ghanian club asked for no transfer fee as they didn’t want to stand in the way of his career in Europe but a 50% sell on clause in the first 3 years of his move to Sporting, knowing he was destined for greatness.

Leicester had a mandatory obligation to buy for £14m if they get promoted, which has now triggered netting the Ghanian minnows a whopping £7m. To offer some context, the highest fee ever received by Steadfast FC was for £25,000 previously.

There’s going to be some celebration in Ghana when that cheque hits! Cracking story

Quite possibly why the fee was as high as this. Had the 50% sell on not been active, I don't think Sporting would have demanded as much. For us though, he's proven he's actually a very astute piece of business for the price.

Everyone wins. Bumper payday for Steadfast, we get a cracking player for a fair price, and Sporting get £7m for a player they've not really had to do anything with.
