What type of spider is this?

Looks like an orb web spider to me, Harmless and reasonably common.

If you're worried, just catch it in a jar or something similar and release it in the garden. Even if it is a False Widow, treat it the same way.

I'm presuming you're in the UK? Brown Recluse spiders are native to USA and not normally found here.

Don't kill little creatures if you can avoid it, they're having a rough time as it is so put them out of their misery.

Many years ago, a mate returned home to find his wife outside and refusing to go in the house. She said there was a massive spider in the living room.

Sure enough it was a huge thing, about the size of his hand he said.

He thought it was a prank though, a childs toy or similar so he went to grab it.

As he did it moved. He nearly filled his pants.

It was thought that it arrived from some tropical place in a box of fruit or something.

I also immediately thought orb spider, which can get quite big and typically live out in the garden.

Horrible bastards, one landed on my hand when gardening over a year ago and bit me instantly, tried to shake it off a couple of times but it was proper locked on and wouldn't fvck off lol

Pain slightly worse and more prolonged than a wasp sting but the swelling and tingles lasted a good couple of weeks

We have loads of these in the side bit managed to survive all winter

Be aware when using this type of search that it will bring up all matches, not necessarily all are found in the UK.

Hi,

I’m a Spidologist and it’s completely harmless, eats Jacob’s crackers.

Edit- just had to google that in case I’d accidentally outed myself as a pervert on the internet.
