I kind of understand now because of the situation we find ourselves in but for years now it seems we've struggled to get deals over the line, never get our top targets and even the players we do sign and are reported as a done deal seem to take weeks to announce. Says to me We're crap negotiators. Something isn't right and hasn't been for years.

I'd guess that 99% or there about of linked players are false links.

After that it's not always that easy especially now as a PL Club we stink the place out.

“Leicester wanted me so much” – Player says he was almost convinced to join Foxes this summer
By Kaustubh Pandey - 9th August 2024

AS Roma have had a busy summer transfer window so far and the signing of Matias Soule from Juventus is seen as a real positive for the club.

It took some effort for them to seal the move, as it did seem initially that Leicester City were leading the race for the Argentine. But the Foxes were beaten in the chase, securing the will of the player.

With Soule now settling in at Roma, he recently spoke to Corriere dello Sport in an insightful interview. He was asked about his decision to join the Roman giants and about interest from Leicester.

He revealed that initially, it was his dream to play in the Premier League but he later felt the affections of Roma and manager Daniele de Rossi, which swayed him into the move to the Giallorossi.

“Initially it was mine [Premier League dream] too. Leicester wanted me so much, both the coach and the sporting director called me to convince me of their project.
“But then I felt the affection of De Rossi, of Roma, of the teammates who contacted me and I decided from that moment to say no to all the other clubs and to think only of Roma for all these reasons plus one.”

He also revealed that the charm of the Roma fans proved too good to turn down, having previously been left stunned by the passionate fanbase during a game that he witnessed from the stands.

“They are a spectacle, and I’m not just saying that. Last season Paulo [Dybala] and Leo [Paredes] invited me to the Olimpico to watch the Europa League match against Feyenoord. I went in, I heard 70 thousand people singing from the anthem until the end of the match.

“Once I came out I told my brother that I had never seen such passionate fans. An incredible emotion, thrilling. Honestly, I had already thought of Roma, when I still didn’t even know if I would continue at Juventus.”

The youngster went on to state that he hadn’t thought of leaving Juve until they wanted to sell him to a Saudi Arabian club, which was rejected by the player.

And over time, Soule made peace with the fact that his future doesn’t lie in Turin.

I suppose if we only signed shite players for far too much money and overpaid in wages then deals would be concluded at pace.

Agree Ward was completed very quickly as Liverpool could not believe their luck.

So basically the fans on the terraces are what convinced him.

Yet our owners don't want us to sing and show passion like 95% of our fans don't.

So it's not just Rudkin fvcking up deals for us 🤔 🙄

This.

Fans are just ridiculously demanding and impatient.

Unless you're physically involved in the transfer process at the club, or have actual knowledge of targets we want to buy, no one has any idea on what the club, players or agents are doing.

Some fans think we'll be the only club interested with a player, or that a player will only want us and that therefore would then mean a deal is 'straightforward'. Even in that scenario, it probably isn't that easy.

Agents are snakes. They'll put out stuff to clubs, players, media, fans etc just to build up interest. They're probably the main culprits of any 'rumour' just to drive up demand. Players probably hate it but deep down they probably know it'll mean they can eek out a bit more money from the club. And that's all the agents care about - money.

Loads of transfers go on for weeks and months even if a player has been tracked for several months beforehand. Situations change, personal circumstances change for the players. Family commitments, club environment, facilities, city area, house, schools - all comes into play more often these days.

Who knows who a 'top target' is or how close we've actually been to signing someone.
