Ash Posted 18 December 2005 Posted 18 December 2005 I've not been able to go to many games this year , so can someone please explain why Williams just isn't getting any kind of first team football? Thanks
Durnerz Posted 18 December 2005 Posted 18 December 2005 I've not been able to go to many games this year , so can someone please explain why Williams just isn't getting any kind of first team football? Thanks Because hes lazy and doesn't care. Bad attitude as well. Looked good coming on yesterday though.

Ash Posted 18 December 2005 Author Posted 18 December 2005 When you don't play your confidence does take a knock, playing would sort that out. Surely he's better than that joke Kisnorbo. Plus playing two defensive midfielders(Kisnorbooo and Joey) where's the creativity? Now Hughes is back aswell i hope Williams,Hughes and Joey can work together start causing trouble.

Joeys been playing the attacking role very well so far and Kisnorbo although hes not got a great deal of skill i'd take his Work rate and "sideways and backwards" passing to Williams who doesnt even attempt to get involved in the game half the time.

When you aren't in the side you have to prove yourself in training to force your way back in. If you don't put the effort in, you stay out of contention
Anish Posted 18 December 2005 Posted 18 December 2005 Durnerz is spot on. Williams hasn't shown the effort or commitment required when he's played. He's been lazy and not looked interested most of the time. Even though Kisnorbo is technically worse, and I have slated him quite a lot on here, he still puts in the effort and tries his hardest.
The People's Hero Posted 18 December 2005 Posted 18 December 2005 Do we want to be a club of cloggers with no talent though?
filbertway Posted 18 December 2005 Posted 18 December 2005 Maybe sheephead (williams) is trying hard but can't get in becuase our leader is starting instead
Bert Posted 18 December 2005 Posted 18 December 2005 Gazza was quality when he came on yesterday. even though he has the worst hair in the world.
Ric Flair Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 Williams showed exactly how talented he is on saturday and it's so frustrating that he doesn't show it more often because if he did he'd be one of the best midfielders in the league and we'd seriously benefit from that. He was like a man possesed on saturday and really drove the team on, perhaps Levein has said something to him that's flicked a switch or perhaps it's just his annual cameo appearance like against Plymouth last season when he completely changed the game and us fans thought he'd finally cracked it. It's a pleasure to watch him when he's motivated, it's the managers job to fire him up each week because there's a wasted talent there if not.
BartonFox Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 Gareth Williams isn't good enough pure and simple. He was called up to the Scotland squad when Berti Vogts arrived and we found out that he'll be no more than a decent Championship player at best. He was suposed to be the new breed of talent but like Michael Stewart, David McNamee, Steven Crainey, Russell Anderson and Scott Dobie we found out he is just average. He's been here for a year and a half and has contributed the square root of sod all in terms of application and work ethic. If you have neither attribute then you have no place in the team, hopefully they let him go to Man City in January and we can use the cash and wages on someone else.
Katy Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 Williams frustrates the arse off me, he quite clearly has the talent but hes like the kids at school who were clever enough to not do any work but fly through their exams and come out with 'A's, unfortunately this doesnt apply to football.

It's interesting to note that Levein clearly still rates him and that Forest were desperate to hang on to him when we nabbed him, yet he comes across as lazy and not utilising his talents. Usually if a player has a suspect attitude they are got rid of, yet with Williams it doesn't seem to be the case. Perhaps he's not as 'arrogant' as we think and he's actually very shy who lacks confidence and it's down to the managers to get the best out of him.

filbertway Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 after speaking to him at the open day last summer - i would say he's a very arrogant willy puller How come?
Ric Flair Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 after speaking to him at the open day last summer - i would say he's a very arrogant willy puller I've spoke to the lad before and he seemed very shy. He also appeared to be very intelligent with the words he used, which is obviously completely the opposite to what fans think of him.
filbertway Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 How did you understand him? isn't he scottish

Yes, you can tell by the way he dresses and speaks that hes not your stereotypical footballer. I dont actually think hes arrogant, just playing way below what hes capable of.

I dont actually think hes arrogant, just playing way below what hes capable of. I agree Katy!! If the guy was a stereotypical footballer, his hair wouldn't be like this and he would be arrogant. I just think that he only plays well when we are in a dire need of something, like Saturday when we were trailing and then drawing he was always looking for that killer pass and the way to goal but when we are in front i think that he seems to think that we have already won and are in total control of the game so he doesn't have to try that hard!
teblin Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 So people on here would prefer a player like kisnorbo to be consistantly bad, rather than having a player like williams who can do something a bit special though inconsistant. consistantly bad is better than good sometimes? Not so sure myself

Thracian Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 I thought he tried to get involved on Saturday. He made mistakes but he broke up attacks on the edge of our box and launched some decent attacks. Strikes me someone's got to get into his mind on match days and persuade him to be like Joey, continually determined to improve contribution. That means not disappearing for spells when things are a bit iffy or when you're up against a difficult opponent. He's been lucky so far cos HE had a good enough reputation for fans not to generally get on his back (despite some genuinely dire performances, to use the word of the day!). I'm glad about that cos he is talented but he needs to ask more of himself on a week by week basis. If he does no reason he shouldn't compete for a place team squad.
