For those of you who need a lift (undoubtedly all of us!) to escape, for a shot while, from the abyss of hopelessness, I can recommend listening to 30 minutes of the Colin Murray show that was on this morning (Sunday 23rd Feb), a repeat of which you can find on BBC Sounds.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0028922

or

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0028922?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

Each week he has a feature named ‘The Great Football Song Book’ and this week it was us!

No spoilers but I sure you will find it uplifting, especially to hear Colin Murray’s enthusiasm when talking about our club and what we have achieved.

It from around 10:30, just after the News, so about 30 minutes into the broadcast,

Just got around to listening to this. We really do our anthem well and great to get it recognised. The words are just perfect for us being that club that's had more ups and downs than any another. Felt quite emotional listening to that.

Don’t get me wrong… I don’t mind the song, and it’s better than nothing before a game for sure..

BUT

It is by no means one of the best walkout songs in European Football imo. Arsenal’s is great, as too is Liverpool’s and Man City’s in my opinion.

An “anthem” with lyrics actually about Leicester/shire with a chorus of “the whole world smiles with you” would be a lot better.

I anticipate this being an unpopular opinion..

Any mention of music is my excuse to reiterate the club should play ‘this is the season for us’ at some point near to kick off. It’s a classic song sang by the squad back in 1974 and it’s got very easy lyrics to sing along to. Everton have got their song (albeit with that embarrassing school girl squeal) and Leeds have their old classic. We need this!

This is the season for Leicester. Couldn't play it this season!

It's not a walkout song. Ours is the PHG.

YNWA doesn't have Liverpool lyrics. It used to be a generic football song sung by all.

Have you listened to the Colin Murray broadcast ? WYS lyrics are perfect for our club. Currently the best bit about match day.

You’re right in regards to the first point mate. But you know what I mean - in terms of the fact it’s our ‘song’ that gets played out the loud speakers that the fans join in with.

YNWA is now synonymous with Liverpool. When they sung it after winning the champions league it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Would never happen with WYS in the state it is now. Maybe it’s just half of our fanbase’s refusal to sing it.

How many times have you heard away fans sing “what the fcking hell is that” to YNWA compared to WYS? Because I hear it almost every game when we’re singing it.

I listened to the podcast - it’s what made me write the post originally. The lyrics have nothing to do with the club. And the Jersey Budd rendition wasn’t sung “during the good times”. The best memory we’ve had singing it (in the Jersey Budd version) is the first time it was played in the Conference League.

And it’s been 3 years of playing it pre game, yet 2/3 of the ground still doesn’t catch on. Changing a few lines to make them more directly relatable may help. Or even add artificial fan noise the final two lines (“the whole world smiles with you” x2) so that it appears as more of an anthem as supposed to sing along in a pub in the city centre.

We can still finish top of the bottom 3. With our squad and manager that would be a massive achievement. There’s always an excuse to play. Maybe one day we might score a goal or get a clean sheet. If we do then every fan should be belting ‘this is the season for us’ out!

It’s a fkin stomping wah wah effects pedal infused football and specifically LCFC classic, much better than the new player selections that we are now forced to hear.

You sound like a Liverpool fan not a Leicester fan?

WYS is perfect and very loudly sung at times

I'm sure I'm well in the minority but love the song and it being unique to us, but think the Jersey Budd version is w@nk

You're in the majority loving it! The JB version is why it's taken off being an easy pace for a big crowd to sing along to.

Sorry I wrote the post badly. I'm sure the majority love the song, I meant I think I'm in the minority hating the Jersey Budd version. Screams pub singer to me.. but take your point on the pacing

The jersey budd version is perfect. Only until it's introduction has wys been sung with any kind of passion. I've been going for over 25 years in old and new. The stupidly fast version sung by some fans is over in seconds and leaves nobody satisfied.

This is my favourite version....

Except when it's 'sung' by a motley cruel of drunk fans at 120MPH it sounds summat like a dog barking at a wet fart then howling at the rain clouds. Utter drivel.

For most games I am in and around the singing section. Even there, I recon there’s a maximum 70% who sing from the start till the end. And that’s the singing section. Where you’d expect the take up to singing it would be the greatest.

And just because I compliment another club doesn’t mean I should “join the greedy 6 bus”. To me, that’s quite a silly opinion. It’s like me saying Brighton have a better recruitment system than ours, or that the Forest scvm have a better front three. I’m not a Brighton or Forest fan - im just sharing my thoughts on other clubs and comparing them to ours!

I think more than 1/3 of the ground join in. When Maddison was here, he said it was great hearing the fans singing it. Like said previously, YNWA was always sung by all teams fans but after Hillsborough, became synonymous with Liverpool and almost as a matter of respect, has not been sung by other fans since. The JB version is ideal for a crowd to sing along to.It’s been sung b6 City fans since the late 60s early 70s. I’m sure that the JB version was sung at the end of the title winning season with the squad on the version.
