Sorry, but this just isn’t true. Other teams away ends have a much lower percentage of older fans. The bigger or more fashionable clubs are much more attractive to younger, male fans. Even Leeds, Newcastle, Everton, the Sheffield clubs - and these haven’t won anything in ages. Ladies didn’t really go to the football in the 80s so it doesn’t add up we’d have so many 70 year old women who have been supporting us that long.

This is not me criticising older fans, but I will criticise the club for making it a ‘family club’ and being overly corporate instead of trying to make the club something cool that younger male fans will support. It’s just common sense that this demographic is the most vocal and lairy and that lifts the atmosphere.

Also, I hate to say it but football naturally means more to younger people without families or a sense of direction in life. It’s an escape from disillusionment and pride in a local team which they are less likely to have found in themselves yet. Again, not a criticism - as I’ve got older I’ve realised football is less important than it used to be.

What isn’t good is thousands of people turning up just out of habit and respecting the owners more than the historical institution that is the football club. There’s no pride in that and it dilutes the experience for those who see the club as a meaningful representation of the community.

I would’ve applauded this a hell of a lot sooner but I couldn’t due to a 24 hour ban and point for making a political comment in jest on here.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. 👏🏼

Age is but a number apparently... what is important is the passion and noise in the ground .... with a manager that shows no passion ... the noise from the stands can make some difference.... the problem is the king power like many other similar grounds can't generate the noise and atmosphere that other teams fear and never will

The stadium doesn't make the noise. The supporters do.

Have you got any stats to back any of this up or are these facts opinion based?

BTW Your paragraph that I’ve highlighted in bold is certainly not true for me!! I was football obsessed as a kid and I’m exactly the same now. I wish it did mean less now but it doesn’t.

The acoustics of the stadium do create the noise ... as Filbert street did .... many fans are far to quiet as the club prefers them to be ... as many posts can be put on sites similar to these but having 50 years of watching city .... the noise either critical or approval make a lot of difference.... if people want to sit there in silence that is their choice .... but please don't be a silent critic ..... do something about it

Two weeks ago I was in stadiums built in 2013 & 2012. Both had 28k and both were incredibly loud.

Ah ok.  Yes of course.  I do remember him saying that......and of course the rain.   A lot of these old games and seasons merge into one for me now

Btw I think we have a whole generation of 25-40s who basically thought post 2016, I don't need football anymore. They would have seen the club drop to League 1 and then make the move up bit by bit. Once you lose your place in the ticket hierarchy of LCFC, that's it you've gone way down the list. We just don't have any transient nature to our support for a variety of reasons which means you'd get a group of people ready to give it full guns every game.

What the hell has happened to our fans? We’ve always been a gormless lot but I’ve never known it to be so NPC.

Sky showed the highlights to the Cardiff play-off the other day and the noise coming from our away end is unbelievable compared to the dullards that turn up now.

Just swathes of idiots that evidently take no interest, yet are the first to buy tickets for the next game? I think there’s a complete lack of engagement but a feeling of responsibility to turn up.

A random example of just how disassociated we are:

Our fans wet themselves every time Forest sing about us or sing “Leicester reject” at Maguire/Maddison. The reality is Forest are actually singing because they’re more engaged and are paying attention to what’s going on. We’re supposed to be the ones that hate Forest, but I doubt we’d sing “Forest Reject” at Brennan Johnson or Matty Cash? We’ll just sit there in silence as usual.

I don’t know where I’m going with this, but I’m starting to think we’ve got a huge percentage that just haven’t got a clue about football in general. They probably don’t know who Cash and Johnson are.

Our ends are full of club shop merchants or geared-up morons. Nothing alike about them but their inability to act like a normal away end.

It’s night and day to what it used to be.

I remember Barnsley aways with the whole end bouncing, flares and limbs.

Compare it to Preston away last season and it really has gone south.

Preston was loud at times, but nothing like what it used to be.

That Cardiff away end was a top 6 of all time for me

That Cardiff away end in the playoffs was very very special

Winning the title has set the bar far too high for many fans.

They want to be entertained rather than support and push our players on.

You know what’s a funny point.

Remember Pearson rowing with the West Stand during a loss to Liverpool? Not a peep when we were getting relegated!

Example of you don’t need sold out ends etc.

Best Leicester ends in my opinion have always been when there’s a bit of difficulty or a quick turnaround to get to the game.

I don’t think it’s because they want to be entertained as such

For those of us lucky enough to have been a part of the period of time between say 08/09 and 2021, there’s literally nothing tangible to strive for now. That’s how I feel anyway

Yeah, you’ve the younger lads coming through now who didn’t witness what we did at a ‘drinking and have the money to do so’ age but I think a certain amount of them have seen how our atmosphere used to be, want a part of it, but don’t realise they have to do something about it.

Another factor (in my opinion) is the youth of today are more sensible than we were. 10 pints on a Saturday and maybe something else too, was part and parcel of going to the football. It led to some raucous atmospheres. Lads of the same age these days generally drink nowhere near the amount we used to, in general life, not just at the football. (Which is no bad thing really)

It was pretty much a sell out wasn’t it?

I know a mate of mine got one the morning of the game, but there were scant few available IIRC

Ahem you may be right. I'm 53, was at away pub for 11am, never stopped drinking all day. My lad made sure we got back to station, right trains back etc and stuck to coke. Neither of us stopped singing though and he's well ahead of me on shithousery ..probably as he still has access to sufficient brain cells in the moment.
