Gabriel has to be massively embarrassed watching that back, just awful stuff. Neymar would have stood his ground better there.

Not even sure Ayew would have fallen over at that….

Arsenal are a deeply unlikeable club under Arteta.

Probably makes sense considering he’s an awful awful guy.

Battle of two very unlikeable clubs in fairness. Though if not for the ownership the Toon wouldn’t be so bad, great fans for the most part

I can't believe people want to see penalties given for things like that. The game is already soft as shite as it is and now we want fouls when players get the ball and the striker flings his arms in the air like he's been shot

He wasn’t, he was fractionally first on the replay

I mean I’m not invested in your argument… but Gyokores clearly got the ball first.

Keeper was first alright mate. :nigel:

He didn't get it first but he got the ball before he touches Gyokeres. Since when have you not been able to make contact with a player after getting the ball

He actually wasn't

but if you watch this arsenal player  touches it then pope touches it (plays the ball) then gyokeres and pope make contact - so no pen as the toon keeper played the ball it doesnt matter "who" touched it first - which is what VAR agreed on - and it is the right decision

You're posting the replay which proves you wrong and you still insist it was a pen?! Arsenal player, yes, he has the first touch but 2ms before the actual knee colission keeper deflects cleanly the ball.

The annoying thing for me is in recent games they’ve overturned goals because of the player preventing an opposition player from defending etc…. Pope clearly wins the ball but at the same time stops Gyokeres from getting to the ball.

Newcastle very lucky Pope got a touch on the ball.

It's not definitive either way, lets just agree to disagree.

Ok so why was Sanchez sent off the other week then for Chelsea? Sanchez clearly touched the ball before any contact?

He shouldn't have been imo

For me it should only be a foul after playing the ball first if it's deemed excessive force or you go over the top of it and it's dangerous

Well this was the nature of the sport until the modern times where they've messed up everything. Tackles will fly, clean tackles can also take out of the game players. It's part of the game.

Ref should have allowed play to continue as anorher Arsenal player got the ball after the incident in a decent scoring position.
