Trump threatening tariffs on air pollution from the Canadian wildfires is the least self-aware thing the most un-self-aware man has ever said.

It's genius though.

Create cause; charge for effect.

Yes, so much in favour of free speech that people entering the US have their social media checked for anything negative theh have said about Trump…..

I know a couple of Americans who live here and one particularly is too scared to go back there whilst this administration is in place due to the fear of being detained by ICE for this reason.

Ugh.

Not the most auspicious of starts, but it's very early in such decision-making process so there is time to change his mind. Hopefully some other folks around him might be persuasive.

Tory in disguise?

Or throwing a bone to areas of the base that might otherwise give him trouble from the start.

It's a bit frustrating that he and a couple of previous leaders have been put in this position in the first place by a consistent lack of policy decisions from decades ago resulting in not investing in both renewables and fission properly.

Until we aren't using any fossil fuels it's the right thing to do. Not having to transport it round the world means it will have less embedded carbon than the alternative.

As long as the use for power generation is both minimal and very shortlived from this point in time.

Always said pretty much exactly this, however, as far as I'm aware this oil and gas can be sold to whoever the hell wants to buy it.

Stuff like this would go down better if it was guatenteed for UK use imo.

Probably be sold here at international market rates.

And taxed here at whatever crazy rate it is 80% of profit.

Hopefully.

We are regularly on nearly 100% renewables, winter is an issue of course.

But you already know this.

I do, but I also know how quickly things can change given political will.

And also...

This.

Exporting to a place that can or will use it for power generation is as bad as causing the emissions ourselves. Worse, probably.
