I think we will need to start over at CB (senior CBs). I could see all 3 of Faes, Nelson and Okoli going.

I really hope we aren’t looking at right full back as Aluko and even Joseph are ready. Left full back, with VK out, I’d be more inclined to bring a younger option in to challenge and replace Thomas.

We’ve ended up quite short on the wings as you say with Monga and Fatawu going.

Still a lot to be done….

100% on the CB front, total reboot and fresh blood.

Fullback wise, I agree, we have Aluko, Joseph and Hamza at a push for RB, and Aluko can play left as well so can cover Thomas.

Really want us to invest minutes in Aluko and Joseph, both have shown they are ready.

What do we reckon the chances are that we're done in the window?

Maybe it's because we're in League One and the papers etc. care less but I've never known us to have zero rumours about transfers.

Obviously, we'll make the inevitable deadline day loan for a striker who'll make a 4 loan appearances for us but other than that, I'm starting to believe we're done.

We didn't make any transfers last season other than a few loans and we were probably in a more stable position financially then than now, even with our wage bill being lower, our income is just not sustainable for this league.

No chance.

I think we see Soutter, Faes, Skipp and Nelson leave and 4 or 5 in.

I'm hoping you're right but we did 60m in sales + the 100m+ we got from TV rights in the Premier League last season and only sign 3 loan players on deadline day, I don't really understand why this season different?

I appreciate that we've brought our wages way down but so is our income.

Everyone is for sale, get cash in to make us more attractive for a potential buyer. Would be surprised if any money is spent.

It'll be free signings / loans only and we all need to pray our academy lads can hit the ground running.

In terms of striker, that Danny Ormerod sounds a great shout. But at 20, and jumping from the National League to L1 if he did, you’d not imagine putting those 15/20 goal expectations on him. So the issue is, who else do you get? The ideal would be a Jack Marriott or Keillor-Dunn type who is late 20’s or even early 30’s as an experienced scorer at this level with our own youngsters and an Ormerod to add competition.

In full agreement mate.

Ormerod as a backup option I could understand, getting him as first choice would be too risky imo. Just look when we signed Vardy for example, yes we were a division higher, but we already had Nugent who was a proven goalscorer at that level, of course we don’t have that luxury atm, unless you want to count Chaplin.

Therefore as you say, ideally I’d want a striker who has proven that they can score goals at this level. Keillor-Dunn has been my number one choice all summer if Wrexham are willing to let him leave. If not, then you’re looking at players like Wareham, Marriott, Burstow, Pepple, or if we want a big man, Kyle Wootton has 1 year left on his contract.

I don't think we will spend a lot, but will use loans and the free market.

Because we had a squad, on paper, that should have been alright for the Championship. If senior pros carry on leaving, we are going to have a squad of youth team players left over.

Midfield looks a bit lightweight for the division. Essential that we can move Skipp on and sign a couple of midfielders that add some quality and physicality. Nassim Zoukit would’ve been my first choice but he’s gone to Thun so maybe that was always unlikely. Hoping the Martin connect could tempt Smallbone to drop a division, Giovanni Haag another free agent who ticks the boxes we need.

Completely agree, set pieces especially are gonna be a huge downfall for us as things stand defensively. Very lightweight and small.

I would be surprised if all of Souttar, Nelson, Faes, Okoli, Mavididi and Skipp are here close of the window.

I the our shopping list will be:

CB x 2

ST x 2

RW/LW x 3

CM/CDM X 1

You are missing Woyo at fullback, I think we are unlikely to recruit at fullback unless we move on him or Hamza.

100% agree, my point was more towards we can’t be shopping there currently based on current squad. The squad was more what Is needed now, prior to player sales.

Completely forgot about Woyo, however, I will add I think he’s a winger in RM mind.

CB: souttar, Nelson, faes and okoli will probs be gone

I think W-B might start LCB so at least 2-3 CBs will come in depending how he sees gray ..Finley burns might be one in alongside a senior cb,

LB: You missed out Mirsad Ali who’s in with a shout

DM: Skipp’ll probs be gone, hence why we’re looking at Greg docherty maybe, also same as Above with Tommy Neale

RW: alves is not a rw’er I know Russell tried him out there but you can tell he’s more uncomfortable out on the right wing than in the 10 or the HS ..you forgot Jake Evans & Lorenz maybe, and Id like to see Lorenz tried here & up front actually instead of LW — so it could be Carr/Evans/lorenz

ST: i think Otchere’s possibly our main striker with opoku as back up hence why we’re looking at senior “3rd choice” strikers maybe, Hope not but we’ll see

LW: Mavididi hopefully is going

Again, as stated at the bottom of the post, this is based on current squad. We can not replace people that are still here, build a shortlist sure but until they’re gone we are not signing anyone in those positions.

Right now as @Bluearmyfox28 alluded to, there’s four holes in this squad that need filling.

When it comes to Left-Back, I’d be inclined to dip into the free agent or loan market. Ben Osborn hasn’t been picked up yet, he’d give us that versatility of a left-back who is capable of moving into central areas. In terms of Ioan options, Cathal McCarthy, Finley Munroe and Seb Naylor are the three I’d be inclined to look at.

If funds allow, then signing a Fatawu replacement in the region of £1 million is a must imo. If we don’t have that luxury, then I can see us dipping into the loan market. In terms of a backup left-winger, Abdul Abdulmalik would surely come in the £500k-800k type bracket, or we get in someone on loan who has been plying their trade in PL2, there’s numerous options.

Then like with RW, if funds allow, we need to sign a striker who is capable of getting 15-20 goals. Then I can see a more experienced striker coming in as backup, no doubt it will be an underwhelming name though.

Then I guess it’s just a waiting game on more departures, a revamp in defence is likely needed, I’d still like Archie Collins to replace Skipp if he leaves, and someone to replace Mavididi if he leaves.

I’m glad someone understood the purpose of the post! lol height is a huge concern for me in this current squad.

At left back I wouldn’t be shocked if RM is in Jayden Meghoma’s ear. Probably too good for this level but been given his Southampton debut under RM and also signed at rangers by him too. Potential loan.

At right winger, Tudor Mendel-Idowu is so fun to watch. I think he would have a field day in a side like this. If you haven’t watched his highlights, do it! Unreal talent with the ball. Potential loan.

just a couple of loan options!

Jayden Wareham (23) - Exeter City

His style of play intrigues me under RM system. I can’t tell if he will be class or whether it wouldn’t suit him at all.

From what I seen of him, he appeared best with space in front of him to run onto, where he can use his movement skills and knack of beating the offside trap.

We’re going to be playing a lot of low blocks this year, which I’m not sure if that nullifies him a bit?

His brother passed this summer also in a tragic way for the family, so who knows what his mental state is right now. Awful story.

The kind of player I like but at 21 he's never stepped up outside youth football. That's not a great look. Only a year younger than Fatawu.

Beggars, choosers, Leicester City....

Seen this morning while the squad is in Spain, Jonathan Panzo has been at Seagrave for a medical and is expected to sign a 2-year deal. Will give us cover at CB and LB which is good if that is actually true. If that deal gets over the line, for me we need another CB, a CM, a winger and a forward.

After watching the two 11s last night, its evident that if a move materialises for Skipp we will 100% need some experience in the middle of the park, Braybrooke and Page showed glimpses of what they are capable of, but having someone in and around them to help them develop further would be good. On the positive side the intensity was good, although I cringed every time sideshow bob had the ball

Thought Jake Evans looked a little lost in the first half, I was surprised he played through the middle with Hutchinson from the left, but obviously the manager sees something.

Not a chance we’re signing him at the moment. we’ve got Souttar, Nelson, Faes and Okoli, at least two of them need to be sold if not all of them and replacing but doesn’t exactly look likely!

I did think that, given that Souttar was reported last week to leave before we left out for Spain.

If the Faes deal to Fenerbache has stalled too, then we may be waiting a while to see any changes

Word is that he is signing for Argyle for 1.5 million.  Just words on pasoti but person saying it does have a good contact

I am horrified we are going to start our season with what was deemed by us as a premier league worthy defence!

JM if he can sell them all will be a god
