Not part of the squad earlier today. Any news on whether he is gone this summer? Would hope we could give him a similar offer to Monga with backup minutes to Alves next season.

Certainly would rather retain him and bring in no one than sign someone like Chaplin and lose him.

Going from what's been said.

That's a shame.

Considering how good Riley Carr was today you would think that Motsi would have also been able to contribute next season had he stayed.

Certainly would have been a better option than BDCR.

We’re no longer in a position to make anyone the same offer that Monga had

Can't have been more than we're going to be offering Conor Chaplin next season assuming the rumours are true.

Would rather we had used some of that money to retain Motsi. Better value asset and I don't think Chaplin would be much more use next season anyway.

We offered Monga a multi year deal at 40k (from what we’ve been told)

How many years are we offering Chaplin ?   obviously his salary will include a portion which is his inflated s/o fee

The interest in Chaplin is only rumoured as far as I'm aware but he's currently on £15k a week. I would guess based on our previous record we would offer him more than that to convince him to come to league one so £20-25k a week.

Quite a distance from the £40k a week for Monga but surely even £10-15k a week should be enough of a deal for a 15 year old like Motsi. Can't imagine Man City/Liverpool would be offering more.

They will it they want him, peanuts to them.

Nyoni's only on £25k a week currently.

Maybe Motsi is perceived as a bigger talent, but an agreement for a £15-20k a week contract when he turns 17 should still be in the ball park of what he would get elsewhere.

Mental kinds of money for such young players. I really believe that all clubs shouldn’t be able to offer that kind of money to anyone under the age of 20 year old.

He'd perhaps drop down if we were offering him a longer deal, doesn't always mean a higher wage

Motsi's that good. You either give the money to someone like Chaplin and (maybe) get a good league one season out of him and no transfer value. Or you give it to Motsi and he could be a star player with us all the way to the Premier League and if he's sold it would be for £10mil+ like Monga.

I get it, he is highly rated and likely to turn out to be an incredible player. The point I was trying g to make, albeit worded poorly was this. If all clubs had a wage cap for U20 players you’d likely see them stay at clubs they’ve come up through and then move for more £** in the future and not just go to prem clubs on tribunal compensation. (Monga aside, I believe his family got that much for us).

Either way, you can’t tell me it’s not crazy money for someone so young.

Giving Motsi, or an equivalent in any of the ‘let’s say 86 out of 92 clubs’ a blank cheque will not keep them at their home club academy once there is interest from those remaining 6 clubs, you only have to read Monga’s interview on Man C platform to see this.

His words weren’t put in his mouth to massage Man C fans ego’s, he truly believes in what he’s said and why wouldn’t he, what has he known since he’s been following football from let’s say the age of 6/7. Man C have won the title 6 out of the last 9 seasons along with other cups and the ‘star’ players they bring in and despite a player in his home town academy having a soft spot for that home town at school he’s trading cards and supporting players/clubs from those other 5 or 6 clubs, it’s what school kids do.

We could be in the premier league right now and the result would be the same for any of our academy players if those clubs came calling regardless of cheques or minutes.

Aye

Monga told City’s website: “When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me.

“For any young footballer, to become part of this amazing club is a dream come true.

“This has been the best club in England over the past 10 years. And it has also handed opportunities to players from the academy like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly which shows that the pathway is there.

“It is a privilege to be here and I’m delighted to have joined.”
