Because it was easy to prove that if Everton had suffered the points deduction in the season that they committed the offence (ie. When they should have ), Burnley would have stayed up

Man City weren’t charged until  2023

their last offence was 2018

any case we have is very flimsy

It doesn’t grind to a halt like that. The players they acquired would still be there and the prestige and ability to recruit based on earlier success, entry into European competition etc. if they had been found guilty and expelled that would have been one less big competitor out of the way. I am not saying that a case for compensation would be straightforward but it exists.

It doesn’t exonerate the mess we are in right now in any way and the need to find new owners and drag ourselves back to a position of sustainability and a brighter future.

I’ve said before you can’t use cause and fault as a legal challenge. You’d picking back all sorts of examples within football history where a club does something and there’s a link to another clubs failure.

Should we have our FA Cup victory stripped cos we failed FFP? Should the clubs who were played on that run have claims of compensation about missing out on an European run?

I agree with the first point but the bit re us doesn't really make sense as an example. We didn't break any rules when we won the FA Cup. We failed FFP 2 years later. We could have turned a huge profit that last year of the period and then we'd have been fine within the rules. Not to mention FFP is not relevant within the jurisdiction of the FA Cup rules. Plus we did then try to comply (albeit far too late) and we ultimately suffered relegation, and then another because of it. And not frustrating for us is that you can't really say we gained a big competitive advantage by breaking the rules, which is largely irrelevant in this context but still worth referencing.

But yes, every club under the sun trying to claim damages for this is silly. Even more stupid in our case given the ruling relates to 2009-2018 when we weren't really affected. Obviously the knock on effect is huge but then you really are arguing on hypotheticals. Think it's been mentioned, but the rules created a completing artificial glass ceiling so you were going to have break those rules to achieve long term success, so I'm not too bothered that they did that from that angle. But the other side is that clubs like us were then not allowed to do so when we'd earned more of a right on the pitch. I think the bigger issue though is that they committed fraud, repeatedly. The level of deceit is insane and they'd be nowhere without it. If you look at the severity of how they have cheated and the length of time they did it for, they should be expelled from the Football League.

I agree with your sentiment but there have been precedents. Most recently Burnley vs Everton. I didn’t see you earlier posts concerning this but thanks for that but if there is a case that can challenge then why not? You can use cause and fault in civil cases. I thought that is why it’s currently been discussed in the Man City fallout. I may be wrong but that is my understanding? Whether the risk of challenge is worth it is another matter particularly in our case.

I guess that would include our FA cup victory but have there been any challenges? The timeframes didn’t coincide.

The comments Turki has made about his health.

No chance he’s buying us. He’s even on about pulling out of boxing.

So unless we are getting purchased by Zuffa, which would be funny, then he’ll be having no involvement.

The money that Turki has been spending, is not his own, to my knowledge he is head of the Saudi government investment fund, so if he becomes incapacitated, someone will take over…

Because Burnley v Everton is acted upon within a year to two years with a clear direct on impact to either club.

You can’t claim that the reason you’ve got no money in 2026 is because your house was broken into in 2021 and they stole a TV out of it.

There’s example of a football club winning compensation with such a long period between ‘crime’ committed and the action happening. Not withstanding we disnt even finish 4th, we finished 5th.

We’d have two examples against us for a lack of points deductions on administration and the Trestellar debacle

Better example is us in 2014/25 getting promoted to the PL

whilst committing the same crime as Man City right now.

Derby who finished 3rd. Their owner subsequently financially gambled, failed and they were in League 1 by 2022. We were never deducted points

As I said, I agree that the claiming aspect is spurious. But we didn't commit the same crime as Man City did we? They've commited fraud, we just overspent right?

They don’t or didn’t have the depth of evidence on us but Trestallar was a shell company set up Sir David Richards, the ex Sheffield Wednesday chairman.

Richards took a role with the FA after he left Wednesday on the route to administration during his time there he got particularly familiar with Thailand (google search is illuminating on this - promised them a friendly v England ), hence he met Vichai and become something of a mentor towards him. At one point he was set to become the chairman of LCFC https://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/jun/18/sir-dave-richards-leicester-city

He brought in Terry Robinson, bit of a crook who in turn brought in Simon Capper, the accounts man when we ****ed up FFP years later but he ran off to Newcastle.

Trestallar paid Leicester City a sum of money for international rights. It’s said that sum of money meant the club reduced their FFP losses and the overspend. It was mystery money to artificially increase our revenues. Which fits a number of charges against Manchester City

Man City learning from the best.
