Leicester Lass Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 How about we forget all this smoking lark and unite in our love for LCFC? We need some love on this forum!
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 Was that from passive smoking? No... a smoker hit him when he asked him to put his fag out.
john_lcfc Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 And your evidence of this is where exactly? this is ridiculous i couldnt really give a plop whether smoking is banned personally but the walkers stadium is outside..if someone lights up just move to the side it aint gonna kill you.. smoke will fly into the sky ..if your in a pub and you go every week for a long period of time i am lead to beleive it may lead to an increased risk of heart disease but at the footy the guy infront lights up..your realistically not gonna suffer are you? i can see your point that its unecessary/inpleasant but at the footy i cant see any way your gonna die quicker
Head Honcho Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 I've read this whole thread - and both sides do seem to present a reasoned argument. This is obviously something people very passionate about, and that's why neither of you will budge!! I only have issue with your line above - yes, the government are allowing the sale of a highly addictive substance, and yes it is taxed highly. But it is your choice to buy fags/tobacco whatver you smoke ... and you can't blame the government for that! I'm sure you're a very nice person though! (and yes Kat and Cobbo - so are you too! ) Just playing Devils Advocate here! ............but if thats the case why don't the Government allow the sale of Class A or B drugs-they are just as addictive and I'd guess there have been less drug related death's then smoking related!
Leicfox Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 Cheers, you bringing up Class A's has just reminded me about a programme on tonight i wanted to watch, Going Cold Turkey.
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 I'm sorry but cannot get such thing's by sitting next to a smoker, i beleive you can get contract ill health by being in smoke filled room on a regurly basis i.e a pub, but at the football in the open air you are having a laugh. Whether you can or you can't is beside the point. I don't like breathing it in, I can't stand the smell, I don't like smelling of it afterwards. When someone smokes around me it ruins my game as much as you not being able to smoke will to you. I'm not sure what the exact rules are at the moment, but I woudn't have a problem if people smoke a) at their seats upto about 5/10 mins before kick off. b) the middle 5 mins of half time at their seats. That way people can avoid it without putting themselves out massively. The problem is though people break any rules like that by smoking during the game, smoking where you get food/drink etc. If you wan't to be angry at people be angry at those who break the regulations that stand at the minute. I doubt many would of had a problem had people stuck to them.
Katy Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 this is ridiculous i couldnt really give a plop whether smoking is banned personally but the walkers stadium is outside..if someone lights up just move to the side it aint gonna kill you.. smoke will fly into the sky ..if your in a pub and you go every week for a long period of time i am lead to beleive it may lead to an increased risk of heart disease but at the footy the guy infront lights up..your realistically not gonna suffer are you? i can see your point that its unecessary/inpleasant but at the footy i cant see any way your gonna die quicker Im not having a pop, my point is you are making sweeping statements why should I 'move to the side' when someone lights up. Ill tell you something, when I used to sit at Filbert Street there was a fella who sat in front of us and smoked throughout the game and the smoke was unavoidable it was awful and made me feel totally sick, so even if I wanted to 'move to the side' it wasnt possible. As ive said and im quite sick of saying now im not denying anyones right to smoke, I am opposed to having to endure breathing it in.
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 Im not denying anyones right to smoke, I am opposed to having to endure breathing it in. EXACTLY!!!!!!
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 that is why you can only smoke before n at half time... But people don't stick to it, hence the total ban!!!!
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 can any of the anti smokers give me a reason why we could not have a section of the ground for smokers?? there is plenty of room.
Leicester Lass Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 can any of the anti smokers give me a reason why we could not have a section of the ground for smokers?? there is plenty of room. Because the majority of people voted otherwise
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 maybe they did but there was 7 thousand empty seats, so im sure we could have one section and you could still have plenty of space between us and you!!
Leicester Lass Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 Tis true but nothing we can do about it on here! Take your complaint straight to the top
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 dont worry i will, see how they feel about loosing 6 season tickets and all the rest of it that i have posted on here already, it just annoys me how some poeple think they are better than me just because i smoke and find it very hard to give up !!
Leicester Lass Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 dont worry i will, see how they feel about loosing 6 season tickets and all the rest of it that i have posted on here already, it just annoys me how some poeple think they are better than me just because i smoke and find it very hard to give up !! I don't want to set off any more heated debates but I don't think anyone was saying they were better than you. Just a question, would you not renew your season ticket when the law had come into place without the vote? Or are you just not renewing because of the vote? Because let's face it, it was going to happen anyway,
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 i understand that, but if when buying a new season ticket you have the choice of smoking or non smoking then you have a choice, and if you choose to go in the non smoking area then you should accept the rules!! i am thinking of not renewing simply because of the vote,
Chimp Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 i understand that, but if when buying a new season ticket you have the choice of smoking or non smoking then you have a choice, and if you choose to go in the non smoking area then you should accept the rules!! i am thinking of not renewing simply because of the vote, Personally, I think you're over-reacting. I'm a smoker, have been for years, and to be honest I'm sure that both of us could go 90 minutes without a cigarette without too much of a problem.
Chapman! Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 is it really that bad! you must be in pretty deep. it's a sorry state of affairs if you need to have a fag in order to really enjoy a football match. To be fair, i enjoy a matchday experiance a little less if i have someone in front of me pumping smoke into my face. you never know, it may help you to give up those things before it's too late. well said!! it is a bit pathetic if some people cant manage to go less than 2 hours without a fag! surely there is no smoker who is saying 'oh my god i cant have a fag for nearly 2 hours how will i survive?' is there?
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 well said!! it is a bit pathetic if some people cant manage to go less than 2 hours without a fag! surely there is no smoker who is saying 'oh my god i cant have a fag for nearly 2 hours how will i survive?' is there? do not belittle me!!! i am not pathetic or sad !!! i am just putting over an arguement, i have not slagged anybody off for there opinion !!! just would like to know why you would be so against a seperate area for smokers?? as i have stated there is plenty of room !! yes i can go for 2 hours without a fag, but that should be my choice, as i accept your choice not to be arround smokers.
Trumpet Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 dont worry i will, see how they feel about loosing 6 season tickets and all the rest of it that i have posted on here already, it just annoys me how some poeple think they are better than me just because i smoke and find it very hard to give up !! But at the end of the day, would you give up going to the pub because smoking is banned? Its only an hour and a half to watch your team play, id give up eating and drinking for those 90 minutes.
Chapman! Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 do not belittle me!!! i am not pathetic or sad !!! i am just putting over an arguement, i have not slagged anybody off for there opinion !!! just would like to know why you would be so against a seperate area for smokers?? as i have stated there is plenty of room !! yes i can go for 2 hours without a fag, but that should be my choice, as i accept your choice not to be arround smokers. im not having a go im just saying the decisions been made some smokers are moaning about it! there is no need! im sure u will live if you cant smoke at the match! i dont mind separate smoking areas as long as im away from it i dont care!
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 just would like to know why you would be so against a seperate area for smokers?? Because... a) You couldn't smoke under the stand due to catering staff having to breath in 6000 fags. If you have to smoke in the stand you then get b... b) With 6000 people smoking in one area, the smoke WILL disperse into other areas of the ground no matter what other people say about it being outside. c) If you ignored point a and b. It is feasible NOW, but not if crowds increase number wise. You cannot give smokers a whole area as the facts are it wouldn't get filled. If we were doing well non smokers would have to move into that area as that's where lots of free seats are.
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 yes i could live without a fag at the game, but how would you and the club feel if they did loose a few thousand who did not renew thier season tickets in april / may, just because of this ban????
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 But at the end of the day, would you give up going to the pub because smoking is banned? Its only an hour and a half to watch your team play, id give up eating and drinking for those 90 minutes. Smokers tend to be inconsiderate and selfish, I know not all!!! But many are from my experience. When smoking was allowed in every part of the ground, as much and often as they wanted I didn't see them giving a shit about non smokers... so frankly I can't give a shit about them now. If they choose not to go to the ground because of it then fine. The club will get as many new fans come in due to non smoking as they will lose for it. The smokers can sit at home in a cloud of smoke listening to John Barber.
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 yes i could live without a fag at the game, but how would you and the club feel if they did loose a few thousand who did not renew thier season tickets in april / may, just because of this ban???? A few thousand.... a really doubt it. The club will gain as many fans as it loses due to the ruling.
