trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 i understand your points, i have always gone along with the rules, but point c is a bit off!! so i cant have a fag incase the fair weather supporter feels like turning out for a few games??
Chapman! Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 yes i could live without a fag at the game, but how would you and the club feel if they did loose a few thousand who did not renew thier season tickets in april / may, just because of this ban???? well those who did that would be a bit pathetic! why would you not go just because you cant smoke! that would just show how crap there support for the club is!
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 now im selfish, and you couldnt give a shit about me, thats fine, lets see what the club thinks?? i will tell them that you want rid of me and my 6 season tickets,
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 i understand your points, i have always gone along with the rules, but point c is a bit off!! so i cant have a fag incase the fair weather supporter feels like turning out for a few games?? I know what you mean, but I can't see the club wanting the lose out on revenue from a couple of thousand empty seats. What I thought was that people could smoke in the stands before the game up until 10 mins before kick off. DURING the game should they wish to smoke they can do it UNDER the stand up until 5 mins before half time. Total ban at half time, then people can smoke again under the stand 5 mins into the second half onwards. Non smokers don't have to avoid it, and should smokers want to then they can. They may miss a couple of mins of the game, but it is their vice so they should have to put themselves out to do it.
Babylon Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 now im selfish, and you couldnt give a shit about me, thats fine, lets see what the club thinks?? i will tell them that you want rid of me and my 6 season tickets, Now I said not all didn't I!!! If you don't light up around nonsmokers then you are considerate. No I don't care really, nobody cared about my thoughts when they use to be able to smoke like chimneys. Like I said they will gain as many as they lose.
Knighton Matt Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 now im selfish, and you couldnt give a shit about me, thats fine, lets see what the club thinks?? i will tell them that you want rid of me and my 6 season tickets, Let's be honest mate football is a business not exactly known for it's customer service. I'm sure they couldn't give a monkeys.
trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 dont call me pathetic, the time and money i have put into this club is scarry!! im just looking for an option, or a choice. lets just say that people did say set up a petition and hand it to the club with many names on it, all of which were season ticket holders for many years!! what do you think they would do then??

Bugger all. The facts are from summer of 2007 it will be illegal to smoke in the ground anyway thanks to the new laws. All this vote crap is just to make the club look like it does what the fans want.

trueblue1 Posted 21 February 2006 Posted 21 February 2006 I shouldn't laugh... but.... i am considerate but because of the ruling i have to stay in my seat at the moment, so i cant move away from anyone?? as for sending me to the hospital there will not be any if all smoking is banned, cos they wont have the money to run them!!! like i have said earlier on in this thread i will be trying to give up!!!

Would you stop moaning! you support leicester city dont you? so not being able to smoke while watching them should not bother you!! get over it!!!!!!
Mr_Lavigne Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 I think smoking should be banned at all football grounds.
adam Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 Im a smoker and i agree smoking should be banned from the seats. I just hope they open the back of the Kop up at half time so we can all nip out for a cheeky fag and a pint. That way its not affecting anyone.
Lets Be having You Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 Smoking kills,it smells.its anti social, and if you lot stopped smoking, the money you would save, you get a new season ticket for the city
harry Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 I'm a non-smoker, but when we have dwindling attendances it's a concern that we're so keen to alienate more fans. We've lost lots of our civil liberties in the last ten or twenty years because 'the majority doesn't approve' and in the end that just leads to a nanny state. We have to respect minorities like the smokers and cater for them if we want to BUILD on our attendances, rather than simply REPLACING current supporters (e.g. exchanging a thousand or so disgruntled smokers for a thousand or so non-smokers who might decide to pop along because of the smoke-free atmosphere). And in 2007 smoking won't necessarily be illegal because the ground might not count as an enclosed space. Is it such a big deal to have a small smoking area of the ground?
The Don Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 maybe they did but there was 7 thousand empty seats, so im sure we could have one section and you could still have plenty of space between us and you!! Also they could put that black plastic mat between us do we can't get at each other!!

To be quite honest with you Harry, the attendances will fall when the team is losing and rise when it is winning. The smokers have very little effect on these figures. As sure as night follows day Football grounds will all become non-smoking zones. Already Sunderland, Wigan, Coventry and the Millenium are smoke free. The rest will follow like dominoes falling.
Frenzied Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 Being an ex-smoker, I can understand some people's wishes to smoke at games; I always seemed to need to light up if the opposition scored. And it helps with sociability with a pint at half time. However, I think the reaction of some on here saying they would stop going to support the team is over the top to say the least. Still, it is somewhat unfair not to have a limited outside section in the ground where people can smoke. Passive smoking would not be an issue in this respect and it is in keeping with people's civil liberties. Furthermore, I am in favour of the government's ban on smoking in public places but I'm pretty sure this does not apply to football stadia but rather enclosed public places.
Guest Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 In Scotland, where the smoking ban is due to come into effect, football stadia are counted as enclosed spaces, unless there are open corners. So for a bowl design, like ours, it will be illegal to smoke. I would expect the authorities in England and Wales to adopt a similar stance.

Wasn't 100% sure on this but I think I caught part of a news item the other day that said with respect to the Millenium Stadium people would be able to smoke when the roof was open but not when it is closed. I could be wrong though, as I wasn't paying that much attention.

If the ban follows the Scottish model the walkers and all stadia with enclosed corners will be no smoking venues by law.

In that case it seems somewhat pointless to argue against a smoking ban at the Walkers for a single season.
trueblue1 Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 im sorry but most of you are so anti smoking that you are missing my point, i have not said that i will not be buying a season ticket, what i said was i would think hard about it, and then make my decision, i do not need to give up smoking to buy a season ticket, i already have 6 of them!! as for it being anti social, i can not disagree with that, but there are many things i find anti social, but i do not try and get them banned!! as for it not really afecting the club if smokers stayed away, i think you are so wrong!! just say 500/1000 people did not renew, thats alot of money!! as for non smokers taking thier place i dont think that would happen because we already have a non smoking area, and its never full!! yes i can go for 2 hours without a fag, but i bet some people cannot. buy the way pressure from my kids means that i will be doing my best to give up!!!!
