Interesting question. I think the answer is that I don't really care, to be honest. The Aussies and the English are both equally smug...

...isn't it England AND Wales?

The governing association of Cricket in this country is the 'England and Wales cricket board'. The team is 'England'.

Besides, we have never, ever celebrated the term "England and Wales" in any context.

No we don't. We played one exhibition match under the title of Wales as a bit of a friendly.

The Welsh cricket team is the cricket equivelant of the Basque Country football team, who all play proper internationals for Spain.

He isn't a very happy man, is he?

His batting style gained a reputation for being dour and dogged, and for thus reflecting his personality

wikipedia sum it up nicely

The England cricket team is a cricket team which represents England and Wales, operating under the auspices of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Be proud Sosbanfach...there's your team out there :P

I can barely bring myself to want a team containing Giles over Panesar to win. It's like Wesolowski playing brilliantly for loads of games, being fully fit then Andy Johnson comes straight back in for his "experience".

Fock 'em.

Are you so stupid the pitch isn't made for spinners so we can play giles as the spinner and he can bat can you remember ashes last year he hit a fifty and he's took a wicket so stop having a go.

So what if he can't bat. The fact of the matter is he takes wickets, unlike our pal Giles.

Fletch is a spineless t#@t, just goes to show form counts for nothing. We replace the worlds finest left arm spinner with a semi crippled one dimensional boring grandad.

FFS i'm cheesed off with those inept selections, all we need now is the rabbit to drop Ponting on half a dozen then make another contribution of about 15 with the bat.

That's an extremely bold claim.

Monty is the greater threat in terms of taking wickets but Giles is a decent bowler. Containing and frustrating. You can't play the top sides and take 4 or 5 strike bowlers. A balance is necessary.

I don't necessarily think the decision is the correct one... It's a close call.

Giles is the consistently decent, defensive, spin option. In this side, KP can provide an aggressive spin option. Giles is adequate with the bat and functional, no frills in the field. Dependable.

Panesaar is a dangerous bowler. He gives the ball a bit more air and his use of 'flight' isn't yet as good as Giles. Giles is wilier... Panesaar just bowls the odd peach of a delivery. His fielding and batting are pathetic.

Personally... I think I might still have played Panesaar. His form is arguably better. It just puts a hell of a workload on the likes of Hoggard etc if when the Aussies go after him.

This is the beauty of sport though... the 'correct' option will NEVER be known. I think Monty will get his chance anyway.

Oh and what I meant to say is that there is zero chance that Panesaar is the world's finest left - arm spinner.

Perhaps one of the most effective over the last year or so but no chance the world's best.

Bit harsh. fact is that with our tail enders being such a bunch of wooden tops with the bat when it comes to the balance of the side we simply cannot afford the luxury of a non-batting, non-fielding no.11 no matter what potential he has- the side will be out of balance. Giles contributed hansomely to the last Ashes series win and should not be discarded without evidence that he has no contribution left to make. Monty will undoubtedly be selected for those grounds (like Sydney) which provide assistance to the spinners especially if England go behind in the series

i have a feeling i'm going to wake up in the morning reading 350 for 1 or something

nearly. not quite as bad thankfully.

it's such a shame we don't have that bowling attack at full strength and firing. So much responsibity now lies with the batting lineup
