They need to rescue their first innings and bat for atleast another day and a half. But i feel The Aussies will win as our 1st days play was truly awful, and we won't be able to recover from such a poor start. What was Mr Strauss thinking with that shot!!

The boundries are too big to reach with a shot like that. I think he should be shot for giving his wicket away, all they had to do was get to the end of the day without losing a wicket, come back tommorow and then gor for it. Bunch of fooking nimwits!

This is a long series and England will get stronger as they get accustomed to the environment- trust me this will happen. losing the toss was critical in this match but not fatal to the series so for pete's sake pull yourselves together- you're beginning to reveal the bed-wetting tendencies that Australians show when sporting events turn against them

We need 400 to avoid the follow on, which at 53-3 looks a long long way off. Like I said i feel the most we can hope for is a draw out of the first test. I know there is 5 tests, but I'm talkign about this one. If we can keep our first inning going for a day and a half we have a shot at a draw.

Deathside Posted 24 November 2006 Posted 24 November 2006 I don't understand all the hysteria england has always been cráp at cricket - Then for a short period they had a good run of wins and actually won some stuff (ashes & world cup??) Now everyone expects that standard - but in truth england are now back to their normal level Kind of similar to how people thing Leicester are really cráp at football right now when in truth they are at their normal level - Leicester had 2 good spells in their history - The latter being the MON era - A lot of current day fans still believe the MON era standard is the norm...

It's woeful and has deteriorated since he's been handed the captaincy. His ability is fine, he just doesn't use it very often. He likes to be expansive, and always departs going for big shots.. Failing that, he misses simple defensive strokes and it costs him. Maybe it's a concentration thing like you said - I don't know. All I do know is that recently Flintoff hasn't been good with the bat and it affects the team quite a bit.

Shum Posted 24 November 2006 Posted 24 November 2006 I was really pumped up for this, been watching til about 1.30am both mornings and then watching the last hour in the morning and I can't beleive how dis-interested some of the players look... Not one of the batsmen have been hit with a real bouncer like at Lords last year - the england attack really shook them up.

Stuart Broad should be thrown in at the deep end, you need a bowler and a batter in there to unsettle the Aussies because as someone has already said, once they get an opportunity they rarely let up on it. So, let's get some young bravado and arrogance in there to mix it up. Stuart Broad in for Harmison. Panesaar back in for the farmer Ed Joyce in for Collingwood or any other disappointing batter. **** 'em abit. I know the Aussies are probably more than capable of dealing with some wild bowling and batting, but it might restore some pride should we slap them about a bit.
