amitoo Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is set to swoop for Leicester's young defender Richard Stearman. (Various) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/g...ers/6195715.stm I seriously wouldn't want him to leave and i'm sure he wouldn't want to leave but it is MON and he does always make good signings, time to cash in..only if MM doesn't happen, i really hope it does cause i don't him to leave, he had a bad start to the season but hes picked up. I have played poker with some of the young city lads at casino weso, stearman, sheehan, i have a good chat and i was asking sterman about the sunderland bid and he goes he doesnt want to leave but he goes he will do whats best for the club cause we are going through tough times and he loves the club.. so i dont want him to leave..... whats the view on this new speculation? amitoo Posted 20 December 2006 Author Share Posted 20 December 2006 I thought R Kelly was good with at motivating the kids serious note: i think RK has does well with the kids at leicester and he has got some of the best performances out of some of our younger players,
Ric Flair Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 I am a big fan of Stearman's and although he's having a far worse season than he should be doing, I still think he's got a great future ahead of him. If I was Stearman i'd seriously consider leaving if it's Martin O'Neill who wants you. It's whether he'll be leaving almost guaranteed first team football for a place on the bench, if the MM deal does go through then he might be best staying here and with the right manager and better players he could fulfill his potential here. Jon the Hat Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 This is probably just the papers picking up a report from a lazy journalist who has searched through the "stories" flying around before the window closed. Believe it when you see it. Unless Martin is on a Charity mission and wants to help us out to the tune of £3M...
Maybes Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 If the bid is big enough let him go. Simple as

Martin very rarely pays over the odds for a player, so I think if O'Neill does come knocking it will be for around about £1 million, possibly a little more. Janx Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 Did alright at motivating Blackburn kids when they won the FA Youth Cup. but he has systematically pished off all the young first teamers and doesnt seem to be able to bring em back....Matty Fryatt anyone? gatesheadfox Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 i'd not really be arsed if he did leave. we'd get money for a player who obviously isnt as good as we think otherwise it would be far from RK's thoughts to play him anywhere but his prefered position. Ric Flair Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 I'm actually not bothered if he leaves. Take the cash i say Why though? Kelly will only waste it on players not as good as Richard. Would you have said this last season when Stearman was showing he's one of the best young defenders in the league? Perhaps you were, but I can't understand why. He's got the minerals to be a very good player, all youngsters have a rough patch and i'd only sell him if the fee was higher than he's worth by some margin. He also has quite a good goal scoring record for a defender and given we don't score many goals, it's another useful asset to have.
amitoo Posted 20 December 2006 Author Share Posted 20 December 2006 yeh they play like they pissssed off as well, i would reckon stearman would go but i dont feel he really needs to go, as for RK he gonna finish his contract in 6months and if MM does takeover then thats a different story,

bold_fox Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 Let the lad go. He's average at best ! Still so young, and not really filling the potential seen over the last couple of seasons.

He did have a run of good performances last season but I'm afraid to say he's done a complete U turn and now looks like possibly one of the worst defenders in the league! Kelly won't be around for much longer anyway. We’ll need the money generated from the sale of Richard because I anticipate the Mandaric deal will fall through and we’ll be screwed! amitoo Posted 20 December 2006 Author Share Posted 20 December 2006 i thought RK had a 12month contract from the summer so that would mean he has 6months but i didnt know it was a rolling contract. hmm strange... stearman will leave if we get a good price and i think that MM would not keep kelly and i think kelly is too much of a nice sportsmen to get sacked, i rather have him as the coach. Ric Flair Posted 20 December 2006 Share Posted 20 December 2006 Let the lad go. He's average at best ! Still so young, and not really filling the potential seen over the last couple of seasons. That's bollocks. He had a very good season last season, this season he's not doing as well. Just like the manority of our players. Does that mean he should be written off? All youngsters have a bad spell in their early years, it's usually their 2nd full season they struggle as they've often set a high standard in the previous one and find it hard to replicate that form for a while. Tom Huddlestone did exactly the same at Derby, should they have said 'bollocks, get rid of him. He's not as good as last season'. He did eventually go the season after for £2.5 million + add on's and is now looking every bit the premiership player. I know there are exceptions to this and plenty that show promise and never re-gain that, but Stearman has natural ability. I would be cautious for our club to throw that away just now. He's still only just 19. You don't become a first team regular at this level at 17 if your not something a bit special. People are too quick to write players off.
