Leicester Lass Posted 4 January 2007 Posted 4 January 2007 Kelly Waiting On Striker Leicester City boss Rob Kelly faces an anxious wait on the fitness of striker Elvis Hammond ahead of Saturday's FA Cup third round clash against Fulham at the Walkers Stadium. Hammond was forced out of Monday's Championship encounter against Sunderland after picking up an ankle injury at Southampton last weekend. But Kelly says he is hopeful that the Ghana international, who joined City from the Cottagers in 2005, will be able to shake off the knock ahead of the tie. He said: "Elvis has got a bit of an ankle problem at the moment. We'll have to take a good look at him on Friday ahead of the fixture, but at the moment we are optimistic that he will be fit for the game. "Fulham are his old club, so he is obviously desperate to play. He'd like to give it a go against them, but we will have to wait and see how he is." Meanwhile, Andy Johnson (ankle) and Momo Sylla (groin) have been ruled out of the contest. Kelly added: "Andy and Momo still aren't quite right, so they can definitely be ruled out for the weekend." Tickets for the match remain on general sale, priced at just £15 for adult season ticket holders, £10 for senior citizen season ticket holders and £5 for all under 16 season ticket holders. Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 4 January 2007 Posted 4 January 2007 Would make any difference if Elvis did play? In my opinion he's an average League 1 player, and as long as he is a 1st team player the team will be stuck in the rut its been over the past few seasons, i.e. flirting with relegation

Works for everyone else, against us... why can't it work for us against anyone else? Hammond would be useful for his pace. If we dare line-up with Fryatt and O'Grady again, we'll never score.

In my opinion he's an average League 1 player, and as long as he is a 1st team player the team will be stuck in the rut its been over the past few seasons, i.e. flirting with relegation As useless as Elvis is (and he is bad), I would start him over both Fryatt and Hume at the moment based on current form. Humey looks jaded at the moment and Fryatt looks unfit & disinterested. Like it or not, Elvis is currently our best striker, which as you says, helps to explain our current rut.

filbertway Posted 4 January 2007 Posted 4 January 2007 I hope he's fit to play, I know some people hate him and think he's no use at all. But his pace puts defenders under pressure, and is a good way for us to relieve pressure, if we can hit it to him or for him to run onto defenders either can't keep up or are put under pressure. I'd try Elvis and Fryatt up front.

Probably not, but I think that would be our best bet. i actually agree with you there would be a good choice and play a diamond in midfield so the strikers would get even more service

Thracian Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 I'm not saying anyone's wrong. But it's still funny how folk look at things. Hammond's scored twice as many goals as Fryatt this season in close to the same number of games. And he's made more goals than Fryatt. Hammond has shown himself to be fit all season. Fryatt has hardly ever looked fit. Hammond gets ridiculed for every chance he misses. But when Fryatt misses even easier chances it's so often glossed over. What is it that makes people favour one guy over another whatever the statistics say?. Is it that Fryatt looks a better footballer? He dribbles quite well and doesn't get the ball stuck under his feet and keep falling over like Hammond. But fellow strikers alongside Fryatt must be driven nuts trying to get a pass out of him. In the end you wonder if they can't even be bothered making the runs. Perhaps in truth, neither striker is what we really need. which, funnily enough, is what the statistics say.

O'Grady's been mentioned too but he certainly didn't look fit. It's alright have a choice of potential strikers but by the sound of it Hume's the only one who's genuinely fit right now - and he's knackered.
