Leicester V Fulham - post match comments

Talk about Frustrating... lol

GREAT WORK by the Foxes today... I heard bits and pieces of this game on BBC Sportsworld Live in Australia at about 3am... but yes they were more interested in playing the Liverpool vs Arsenal Match... :(

Sounds like the boys did a great job.... they created plenty of opportunity and Paddy K and Weso had a good game too... which had the aussie commentators talking on radio this morning... :)

Well done to Porter and Danny C for showing some attacking flair... and for the rest of the team for defended stoutly and with pride against a premiership side.

The question does remain though, why is it we can play exceptional football against the big sides, and yet we seem to be lacking in this league... it's really frustrating to think where we could have been if we played every match like that...

Bring on the replay though, because if we keep playing like that and improving, which I know is a big IF but it seems we do it at this level... then we could anything to Fulham.

I am a HAPPY Leicester City fan today... good job boys... :)

P.S. WTF went on with Notts at Charlton... did Charlton go out there drunk or something... 2-0 to a league one side... now that's embarasssing... lol lol

Thanks Smudge. We had our American guest with us and after she'd suffered through the Southampton/Sunderland shambles, it was great to be able to turn to her and say "there you are, now you've seen a proper game and now perhaps you can understand why we English love our football so much."

For such a small and slender girl she was building her decibels up quite impressively and now seems to know most of the chants.

My American son in law is really into soccer these days unfortunately I can't get him into the suffering that we have endured since forever. He's becoming an Arsenal supporter, which I guess isn't too bad considering his mother is German. It could have been Stuttgart BDF aghhhhhhhhhhh

What a brilliant game..the back 4 played well as a unit, despite the appalling effort at trying to catch McBride offside. Thoroughly worth the sleep deprivation...just as the eyes begin to close at the table...up bobs every supporters favourite ex grays player and scores... shame the wife didn't share the enthusiasm when i got to bed at half four in the morning..lol

Let's hope the same effort can be applied at Colchester next Saturday because as good as a cup run is, the 3 points on offer will do a lot more for us at the moment...with clubs around us playng each other it is a real chance to sneak our noses in front of them.

Can someone correct me, but did Weso bring some attacking options from the midfield when he came on? He never seemed to be out of their half and was constantly driving it forward in tandem with Levi. At least from what i could glean from the radio commentary.

Bring on the replay and Colchester...I can smell 2 wins in the air.

Excellent.

Good even game, fantasic atmosphere even though the stadium was half empty (after Spurs last year I really don't understand that) and god just awesome.

McAuley is just coolness personified and was brilliant even out of position. Got all our best three defenders into our back line which was a good idea. Cadamateri was probably pretty lucky: I'm all for giving him a chance, and I don't think he's particularly BAD so far, I'm undecided until I've seen a bit more of him. One goal does not a good player make.

Best of all, though, it's hopefully blown out of this 'Kelly Out' shite for a while, and perhaps given the team a boost they needed after the last two utterly dreadful showings.

I'm struggling with this POV I really am, they played their part in what was a excellent match

My excuse is that I am very drunk - what's yours? :P

After todays performance doest it make anybody think what this team could really do? Today we have played a good premiership side (one that infact almost beat Chelsea) and got a very good result and apparenty dominated the match. Done everything that Leicester dont do in league matches. Hussle, harry, close down, attack.

The question you have to ask is why? Why dont we do this in the league? Is it fear? Is it bad tacics? Any manager worth his stripes would be able to identify this and stop it. Now im not starting a Kelly witch-hunt, but asking the question why we play like that in the cup and not in the lague.

Another thing, doesnt it rile you when you see the players perform like that, because it does me. That may sound silly but wait. Doesnt it make your blood boil to think that the same players that rolled over and died against 2 average teams in the last week, played like that in a big cup match? Dont they care about the clubs position? Are they putting themselves in the shop-window? Do they not fcking realise that if they lead this club to the premiership they are putting themselves in the shop window? It just tells me that all they care about is themselves and they are a bunch of over-paid prima donnas who want getting rid of because a club like this doesnt need players like that (naming no names of-course). Anyway rant over

I dunno. I expected Williams to be flashy today but he played solidly, not spectacularly, and for the most part kept his head down. I don't see too many of our players getting snapped up by Prem clubs anyway.

I almost had a heart attack when Leicester came out and attacked, though. Has someone put Kelly on Prozac?

All it does for me is make me mad...why was the Fulham game so different?..they should all be approached in the same why!

You can't deny that a bigger challenge makes you try harder, and I don't think of Kelly as a great motivator, though I do think he makes up for that in other areas and will learn. All we can hope is that we take this form into our league games. A bit of attacking confidence is just what we need right now.

Nope...what we need is a bit of cash for some new players and a change of manager..2 goals to scrape a draw against a very very average side aint gonna change my opinion!

Very average? They drew with Chelsea not long ago and are 12th in the Premiership, 2 points off the top half. It was a brilliant result, and was all the better because we actually outplayed them - I honestly think it was a much better all-round performance than the 3-2 Spurs win which was jammy as fook.

Let's wait until after Colchester...then you can have my unconditional apology! :P

I've always had my reasons for believing the views of this forum get back to the club and today was more than interesting...

a) Kelly didn't pick a single player who looked unfit.

b) Kelly seemed to approach the game with a positive attitude - the way I believe he gained success as a youth coach at Blackburn.

c) There was passing, moving and support for each other.

d) Porter was used much more as a wide attacker instead of a supplementary defender.

e) Hughes was clearly told to attack the box more.

Altogether it was a fairly decent day at the office for Kelly. Not without fault but one where he said "that was the real Leicester City" and I would say, "Partly because that was the real Rob Kelly".

Regardless of the result, right? :P

Either that, or Kelly is actually a decent coach and can outanalyse a ragtag bunch of fans. :) It's always possible! Your last point is very true, though.

No...because of the result!

It's easier playting prem teams, the game is more open, playing championship games are more physical and we aren't a very physical side.

Heh, you mean we're full of shortarses. Fryatt still looks like a twelve year old to me.

I didn't go to the game but I'd contend that it wasn't a different approach from Kelly than that which he took against Sunderland. Tiatto in for Weso aside, it was the same front six. They just played better and the attacks had more coherence.

That's nothing to do with Kelly telling them to play more attacking football or a few people on this forum moaning about a couple of shit performances - it's purely that the players raise their game more for cup ties against Premiership opposition. We've seen it so many times over the past two and a half years. Charlton, Tottenham, Aston Villa and now Fulham. Competed with them and at times outplayed all four of them during those games. And got turned over by the likes of Rotherham, Brighton, Hull and Forest.

I've been caught up in the euphoria of the last-minute equaliser today like we all have been but deep down I'm still angry as f**k with the players for not putting in this sort of commitment to a good team performance each week.

Let's see how many of them turn up at Colchester next Saturday.

Most points have been already made about why we raised our game but loads of teams punch way above there actual weight in cup comps, just ask Swansea!

The fact is we performed superbly, we should have maybe won but the team did us proud! Hopefully it helps kick start us in the league again!

I only caught the second half on the radio - but its a stark reminder of why I'm a Leicester fan. A passionate team who have traditionally played attacking football and always always closing down the opposition. I am going to try to get some tickets to the replay definately.

I now loads of people have already said this, but why on earth can we not play to that level week in week out? I wouldnt go as far as to agree with what the guy before said about primaddonas etc - but I would say it looks like Kelly really did his homework on this one. If we can't go and play like this in the league now then it comes down to one person - Kelly. If you can only psych up your players a couple of times a season it doesnt really say much. But I for one applaud him for today and await the Colchester game with baited breath to see if we can maintain it.

Fair point. I would like to think that someone from the club does read this and tell Rob Kelly about our views. Because we see it every week from the stands.

I agree there was alot more passing and moving and one touch at that which gave us the oppurtunity to open Fulham up more at times.

Using Porter as a much more attacking winner did prove to work alot better as there right back did not like facing up to Levi. Only problem is there were very little times when someone was in the middle to get a head on the ball.

Top peformance, played some good football and played as a teams all worked hard for each other which we dont normally see much.
