Hold Onto Your Wii

The family of a California woman who died after participating in a radio station's water-drinking contest to win a Nintendo Wii will sue the station, their lawyer said on Thursday.

Jennifer Strange, 28, a mother of three, died from suspected water intoxication after taking part in Friday's competition, "Hold Your Wee for a Wii." About 20 people tried to out-drink each other without going to the bathroom.

Sacramento station KDND-FM responded by firing 10 staffers, including several DJs, and canceling the Morning Rave program. The DJs had joked about people dying from water intoxication and teased Strange about her distended stomach.

"The station knew this was a dangerous and potentially deadly stunt, but flippantly dismissed the dangers," lawyer Roger Dreyer said in a statement. "Hearing the tape (of the radio show), it's very clear they knew of the dangers and could foresee that this could lead to Jennifer's death."

The station could not be reached for comment because its phone number was continuously engaged Thursday evening.

Police are also investigating the death for possible criminal charges.

An excess of water in the body can lead to the dilution of vital fluids. That in turn can lead to swelling of the brain, seizures, comas, an irregular heartbeat and in some cases death.

be fair we were doing this sort of thing years ago , noel edmonds was cutting edge

On November 13, 1986, self-employed hod carrier Michael Lush was killed during his first rehearsal for another live stunt. The stunt, called "Hang 'em High", involved bungee jumping from an exploding box suspended from a 120ft-high crane. The carabiner clip attaching his bungee rope to the crane sprang loose from its eyebolt during the jump. He died instantly of multiple injuries, and the Breakfast Show was scrapped on 15 November after Edmonds resigned

i'm not sure if there has been any fatalities but those japanese game shows look pretty stupid too,

I think the Noel Edmuns thing was slightly different. It was a stunt act and it was checked by experts (I expect) before. It was unfortunate that a cable snapped. He would have gone through some training assisted by real stuntmen. The one in America was something the Radio station DJ's took on themselves. They knew there were risks but chose to go against advice about the dangers. They chose to joke about the risks which would give the wrong impression on the contestants who would think the risks were over-rated because it was just for 'fun' The one who did the Noel Edmund's stund would have known the risks and would have signed a form stating so. The victim in America never had a chance to do that.

This were in the Metro last week. It's ridiculously stupid but there must have been something else - a pre-existing condition, or a high pain threshold - that's contributed to it.

I sell the PS3`s via Japan but they are pricey. £550 for the smaller one and £600 for the bigger ones. All new and boxed :)
