Player Ratings v West Brom

Recommended Posts

And thus my domination of West Brom match day threads continues.

I anticipate Maybury to be docked some points for causing the penalty.

And Hughes might get slated for having 10 million chances and missing them all. lol

I also envisage decent ratings for Henderson who didn't sound to have done much wrong today.

Thoughts please.

Hendo 8 (Good again)

Nisse 6 (Solid again)

McAuley 7 (Rattled at the start but goal gave him confidence)

Kisnorbo 7

Maybury 5 (Elementary mistake)

Porter 7 (Decent flair, dangerous in attack)

Jarrett 4 (Huffed and puffed but was sloppy in most parts of his game)

Johnson 6 (Made some vital tackles and passes but occasionally the game bypassed him)

Hguhes 3 (Weak and slow, out of position)

Hume 5 (Fatigued, no real service)

Horsfield 5 (Exactly what I'd thought he would play like when we signed him, very slow and doney-esque)

Yeates 6

Henderson 7.5 (Another virtually faultless performance with good decision making all round).

Maybury 6 (Appalling error for the penalty which he made worse by trying to blame others. But his free kick for McAuley's goal helped make amends and second half he supported the attack better than most)

McAuley 8 (His fourth goal took him past Fryatt and he was forever involved in trying to do something useful. Played his part in restricting a capable attack to crumbs).

Kisnorbo 7.75 (Conceding nothing but a penalty reflected another excellent skipper's performance with timely tackles and headers. Looked thoughtful and determined)

Nils 7.5 (Played his part in another excellent defensive display and linked quite well with Porter for the first hour)

Hughes 4 (I've no idea why he was back on the right wing or what he was trying to do. Missed two cracking chances and never looked in charge or likely to impose himself on the game)

Johnson 6.5 (Mixed display of good and bad but the effort was there and he tried to make things happen while his legs lasted. Unfortunately there was no-one else to push forward in his place later on as we fell, further and further back).

Jarrett 5 (Didn't impress me at all. We need a proper attacker in his shirt).

Porter 7.5 (Most dangerous forward on the field for us. One cracking shot several dangerous crosses/bursts into the box and so nearly gifted Hughes the matchwinner. Great roars from near me for a penalty when a West Brom defender appeared to handle one of his crosses.)

Hume 6 (Tried hard to forge a partnership with Horsfield and won some great flick ons but never really looked a goalscoring threat.)

Horsfield 5 (Disappointing. Simply looks over the hill to me. He's slow off the mark and his ball control cumbersome).

Yeates 4 (One or two crosses but not on long enough to pose a threat).

Kelly 6.5 (Hard to beat but little ambition in today's approach. Left all our familiar questions unanswered. Just an ordinary but acceptable day at the office)

Rennie 2 (Is he the world's most irritating referee? Forever stopping the game. In fact it looked as if a new rule had been introduced whereby if any West Brom player went down it was an automatic free kick. One foul he gave against little Porter after a tackle in midfield was laughable. No question about the penalty though.)

I agree with all of that except for Rennie... he was -1. Also I'd say Kisnorbo was 8/9, his tackle at the end was

I'm not going to argue about your assessment of Rennie. Why the hell the authorities don't simply get rid I don't know.

Henderson - 8. Kept constantly busy, looked tidy. Nearly got the penalty. The odd moment where it looks dangerous, but when he came out he always got the ball out of danger, even when punching.

Maybury - 6.5. Pretty decent, loses a point for conceding the penalty. Got forward, put in better crosses than Yeates and Hughes.

Kisnorbo - 9. Almost flawless. Whenever it looked dangerous, he was there to clear up.

McAuley - 9. Good defensive display, though not as good as Kisnorbo. Gets an extra point for his goal.

Johansson - 7. - Decent, got mixed up with Levi a few times when he came back to help. Not as good going forward as Maybury.

Hughes - 5. Drifted in, lost width, looked lost. Some decent play, but his positional awareness at RM is godawful.

Johnson - 7.5. Got better as the game wore on. Bags more effort than Williams ever displayed, his passing wasn't always spot on, but was mostly okay. Good tackling.

Jarrett - 6. - Not as bad as Hughes, not as good as Johnson (and that's saying something).

Porter - 8. - Tracked back well, put in some good balls, brilliant shot saved that was curving towards the top corner away from the keeper. Tried hard.

Hume - 6.75. Not particularly effective, but kept the defense busy.

Horse - 6.5. Ineffective.

Forget the subs.

Nothing up front, but they wasn't helped by the likes of Hughes and Jarratt who are supposed to give them passes / support them. I think both strikers took knocks in the first 20 minutes which can't have helped.

We're picking up the points but still look so far away from playing the sort of football West Brom are clearly capable of to get out of this league. A team of battlers can only take you so far. So often cautious Kelly will leave out our more flair players (Stearman, Yeates today) in favour of a Hughes/Maybury. I can settle for it for the rest of this season (again) but it's so obvious a change is needed at this club. I'm confident Mandaric realises.

Kisnorbo was outstanding.

Henderson 8 - Commanding with his punches and made the saves that he needed to. No chance with the penalty.

Maybury 7 - Never really liked this bloke but he's started to impress me with his resilience a bit more recently. Looks like a more solid player. Loses half a mark for his ugly challenge on Kamara for the pen though.

Johansson 7 - Didn't really notice him which is all you can ask of a full back. Solid as always.

Kisnorbo 8.5 - Composed in possession, made some superb last ditch tackles and clearances and was immense in the air as always.

McAuley 9 - Same as Kisnorbo but gets the extra half a mark for his superb header for the goal.

Hughes 6.5 - Tried hard but we just look too narrow when he's on the right.

Porter 7.5 - Some excellent running on the ball and worried McShane on many occasions.

Johnson 7 - Faded in and out of the game. When he was involved, he was excellent but at other times he'd stroll around, not making himself available and not looking interested.

Jarrett 5 - One of the main reasons we got overrun in the centre mid at times. He just wouldn't run off the ball to make himself available meaning the game passed him by too often.

Hume 5.5 - Really struggled today. His touch was nothing like we're used to from him and just looks low on confidence.

Horsfield 6 - Caused a few problems with his strength but lacked service and could have made more of a few situations.

Yeates 7 - Good decision by Kelly to leave him on the bench and then test tiring legs late on.

Overall a superb performance from the defence, which always makes anything possible even when our attack is off form. Fat Uriah really was shocking today, not particularly biased but just some bizarre decisions all round.

Posted

Hendo 8 - excellent today, didn't really have to pull off any world-class saves, but did what he had to do and looks much more in control of his area.

Maybury 7 - Worst tackle I have ever seen for their penalty, but apart from that he had a decent game. Got forward well.

Kisnorbo 10 - Words cannot describe how good he was today, didn't put a foot wrong all game against a very dangerous attack.

McAuley 8 - Also excellent and great header for the goal.

Johansson 6 - Pretty solid.

Hughes 5 - right wing is so obviously not his position, offered nothing going forward and again drifted inside far too often leaving Maybury without support when he got forward.

Jarrett 6 - Not a great game and lost the ball in a few silly positions, but, as I keep saying, having him in the side benefits the whole team.

Johnson 7 - Don't get carried away, he wasn't that good, but a pretty solid game. If only he'd pass the ball forwards he'd be a decent player.

Porter 7 - Typical Levi performance, tricky and caused their right back lots of problems, not everything came off today but he kept trying.

Hume 7 - Plenty of effort but not an awful lot of end product.

Horsfield 7 - I thought he did well today.

That twat Rennie is not even worth rating, he's a disgrace to the game and should be sacked immediately. :@

Some extraordinarily low marks by some posters today. I really enjoyed our performance today, particularly the character we showed when we fell behind.

Having thought little of Jarret in his early games I thought he played really well today. He doesn't have the skill of Williams, but so much application and energy. I noticed him all the time. McAuley and Kisnorbo were superb, and Porter my man of the match. He really looked the business today. Thus I award

Henderson 7 (Did well when he needed to. No chance with the peno.)

Maybury 4 (Very poor, and that's not half as bad as his challenge for the penalty.)

Johansson 6 (100% defender.)

Kisnorbo 9 (I don't know what we'd do without him. Probably get relegated or summat.)

McAuley 7 (Great header.)

Hughes 4 (Missed chances, and was gnerally poor. I can understand his inclusion because I thought we needed to keep it tighter today against the division's top scorers.)

Jarrett 7 (Our version of Sissoko on Wednesday night. Good effort and energy.)

Johnson 7 (Since returning from injury he has been much improved.)

Porter 6 (Good cross for Hughes golden chance, but other than that, frustratingly no end product.)

Hume 4 (Poor control, and looked knackered.)

Horsfield 7 (He has made a big difference to the team and is becoming my hero  )

Phew- decent match on the whole. Was surprised to see that Yeates was dropped a I don't really think Hughes offers us much on the right. We really needed the width today, but on the whole we did what I hoped we would do, and that was be positive, felt we were lacking the killing pass from midfield though (the story of our season).

Hendo 7.5- The more he plays, the more he impresses me. Just wish his kicking could be like that all the time.

Maybes 7- Stonewall peno against him but otherwise did excellently, including going forward- a few good overlaps and crosses

Skills 7- Another solid performance at left back- skinned once early on but otherwise solid. Didn't offer too much going forwards today though.

Kisnorbo 8.5- Rock at the back. His positional sense is fantastic. Both he and McAuley did a great job of keeping some excellent strikers at bay.

McAuley 9- As Kisnorbo but with added excellent headed goal to his name! Undroppable, is the final piece in the back 4 which we'd been looking for.

Hughes 6- I think people are being a mite harsh on him. Missed two golden opportunities, although at least he was in there for a change, and drifted too far in field, but never stopped trying. Think we missed Yeates' width today.

Johno 7.5- What can I say? He's a changed man since the injury, closing down players, putting in the tackles. This is what we got the guy for. He's not the kind of player who will play a 40 or fifty yard pass, but thats what his other CM partner is for...

Jarrett 6- He does a lot for the team and gets forward more than Hughes has done but he didn't create enough in terms of a forward pass for my liking today

Porter 7.5- Was all over the place today- his tracking back has improved no end! Don't know how people (ahem Babylon) can say he's not good enough for this level).

Hume 6- Never stopped running but nothing went for him today- think he's a bit low on confidence, could really do with a goal.

The Horse 6.5- The kind of physicality we need up front, didn't scre today, but he kept the defence on their toes

Yeates 6- Not given a huge amount of time, but I think he should have started.
