The offical bring back Fez and TPH Thread.

I couldn't resist a quick post in this thread.

I've left.. I might be back at some point, I might not. It's not the same place it was, for better or for worse, just different. I felt a lot of what I thought I brought to the board in terms of opinion, humour, manner etc was hitting a nerve with a lot of other posters. I never wanted to offend to argue or to annoy, just to debate, amuse and enjoy.

I have many good friends from here, in two camps, those I have met and those I have not... if anyone wants my msn address etc etc, just pm me and I may well log in from time to time to check it.

I'm still just about in the RK OUT camp too!

You'll never go, you're and and out of here like a yo-yo and I do believe you've said you're clearing off about three times now Jim!

The inability to resist posting in the thread about his demise suggests you might be right! Good. Makes the place a bit more lighthearted!

where were these people posting that got banned. I mostly post in General Chat and it all seems 'normal' with only Old Timers posting Perhaps these 'chavs' or whatever you call them heard how free and easy this site was and because of the better set up thought they'd test the water so to speak. If anyone is asked to respect other posters on the OS then there are cries of 'You are picking on new posters' 'It's a free country I can post what I want' ''Just because you've posted millions you think you rule the boards' etc etc etc..

The reason why I look at General Chat mainly is I expect to see similar threads in the football chat as I do on the OS. That is 'Kelly out' Kelly in' Maybury's crap' Maybury's brilliant.' I come on here to get away from that and have a little light relief after work with nonsical posts from some zany characters, TPH being one..

Maybe a trial period for newbies may be a good idea and there could be an introduction sticky thread. If they say where they have previously posted and under what name some-one may know of them and tip the mods off as to their suitability. Discreetly of course. :P

I saw this thread and felt a moralising rant was in order. Always makes people feel better, right? What? Well I'm doing it anyway.

Uhh... firstly, I've been on various internet forums for about 4 years. There's ALWAYS a degree of looking back on what was once a 'golden age', whereever you are, and it generally shifts in position by about six months every, say... six months. :/

Secondly, victimising minors is stupid. I've seen mature, witty, clever 13-14 year olds and completely idiotic 20-somethings on the internet. There's always going to be a correlation between maturity and age, but that's not to say minors don't make good members. I'm still a minor, just about. (Someone else can post and say "lol U DISPROOVED UR OWN PIONT" now)

New people on this forum do get a bit of a bad time of it. When I joined up, for the first week or two my posts disappeared all over the shop. Not just one or two, but probably about a quarter of my first 100. Having, as I've said, spent time at other messageboards and knowing a bit about how they tick, it wasn't like I signed up and posted gibberish all over the shop. I didn't start threads about stuff that was already there (I didn't start threads full stop). I posted no differently to how I do at the moment. I nearly fooked off, to be honest, it was annoying. A 'noob tank' for the first 50 posts or so might be a good idea, as much for their protection as everyone elses.

As for the moderation, yeah, it's true, there are some sites where it's a lot worse. Those sites are all godawful. There are also sites where it's laxer. Lots of them.

Generally, there's a correlation between openness of moderation and a good 'community vibe' around a site. This sites moderation is open, but it's not transparent in the slightest. If a thread is deemed shite, why not just close it, not delete it? Then a short final post by the moderator clears up what was wrong with it.

Same with bannings and post deletions. When I was getting posts deleted left right and centre, I had no idea why, no idea how to stop it happening, and it was maddening. If people feel they can reason with the administration, there's much less complaining, even if they just get batted off.

There's nothing really wrong with WHAT is being done, but HOW its being done could improve.

There, look, I wrote way too much.

too many words

i agree with you on the thread closing and a post from a mod explaining why.i try too...... a- must try harder though. as for pm-ing a member when a post of theirs is deleted is just not do-able, you can go to the guidelines and see if there is an answer there as to why your post has gone, if not pm a mod and they can see if they can see why.

the points about the forum evolving, i kind of, made to shen yesterday, but also as davieG says in another thread, it's up to mr c how he wants the forum to be as he pays for it. i've made the point to the other mods that this forum is all the better for it's big mix of ages.

Why are posts deleted so much in the first place? Unless it's entirely inappropriate, why not leave it there and PM the member and tell them they did something wrong. Or post saying so, with a "don't reply to this post" disclaimer so as to avoid disrupting the thread's flow. Same effort, more effect.

Three reasons:

Other people if they don't make the connection may then believe that it was acceptable to post such crap.

As stated many times before it is impossible to pm ever time a post is deleted, so it would be to let them know that their post was unacceptable

One of the reasons posts are deleted is to 'de-clutter' the forum of pointless posts you second suggestion would only make that situation worse.

Remember most Mods & Admin have full-time jobs and other things they do with their lives.

To stop all the crap from some spamzoids, why don't you just do what some other forums do and get new members to verify their email address before they post? Is that possible on this system?
