Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 BartonFox and Thracian are just in it for laughs. Porter is a decent little attacking player who had a bit of a shoddy game today but his lack of physicality means he can't impose himself on games unless given lots of space. More imposing players would get themselves involved. If he's being marked tightly out wide, he should try and find space. The truth is in between. Porter was out of the game today, did absolutely nothing until the last 20 minutes or so, yet Hughes who actually tried to seize some of the initiative gets slated. But he was still fairly atrocious. To say that he played better than Tiatto or Jarrett is laughable. He shouldn't be abused for not having a great game out of position when he always wanted the ball. Give him a 4 in the match ratings and move on. It does the fans no credit to boo a player who constantly wants the ball. Personally I believe both he and Hammond were trying today. They just came up against better players. The majority just can't seem to look at them without making their mind up before kickoff. Porter gets a lot of defence today for "not getting a pass", yet Hammond who is actually playing up front which is the only position on the pitch where you have to rely on the right service, gets slated when he had no proper service at all. Derby defended deep and got tight on him with his back to goal. It didn't suit him. Fryatt who has a far better touch and can link play better, the game suited him more and he was able to make more of an impact. Fantastic close control and finish for his goal. The bottom line is that Porter and Hughes have more technical ability than Tiatto or Jarrett yet still not enough to impose themselves against a really solid Derby defence. Therefore we needed to turn it into a battle today against a side that were playing five in midfield, two of whom are Premiership quality. Jarrett is a very poor passer but he still has more effect than someone like Williams did over a period of games. And that assist today was spot on. You would all have been creaming your pants if Porter had done that.
MBK Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 I also heared Barber mention at least twice that he did some good defensive work. Can anyone elaborate?
Thracian Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 There's no point arguing with Barton. He's as biased towards his fellow Scots as Thracian is to his academy kids. Never a bad word can be spoken about Hughes or even Levein (Levein's failings were due to Rob Kelly being his assistant).Admittedly I haven't seen the last few games, but from the recent games that I have seen Hughes was appalling. Everyone on here has slated him again today and yet Barton still calls him 'the pick of the midfield'. I know who I'd rather believe. It's true there are Academy' and ex-Academy players I'd rather see given a chance in our team than some of those being currently involved but if they got the nod they'd be judged like anyone else and I don't think my player assessments reflect any bias at all and certainly not intentionally. Porter and Hammond both got low marks from me today and players I've criticised got high marks - and manager Kelly too, who I'd like to see the back of. Most people prefer certain players to others but there are a good many who quite pointedly never see any good contribution coming from young players nor much that is bad emanating from the experienced ones - as you're probably well aware . As for the midfield, you can be sure if there was a poll, that Tiatto would finish way ahead as our "pick of midfield" today.
JoeyB Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 HAve you noticed barton fox posted tis thread then went offline
Bluefoxtim Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 "Admittedly we scored when he went off but he never deserved to be pulled, he was the only one putting his foot on the ball throughout." Despite Hughes letting the ball go under his studs and out of play on more than one ocassion?

Flynny Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 Jarrett was good, Tiatto was a shade better, Hughes was decent but didn't improve on his main weaknesses (poor positioning, too many passbacks). Levi had a poor game but was not used. I didn't get to the game today but more than once I was screaming 'TO LEVI! PASS IT TO LEVI' and it either wasn't, or it was, but via 2 other men, and by time it got to him there were two men on him. He made an absolutely shocking cross, but also had a great shot on target that he was unlucky not to score with. Overall slightly below par, really, which compared to some members of our squad is nothing.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 :D Bloody hell. I've done it. He's finally lost his voice.
C-man Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 Proves just how prejudical the LCFC support is.He was awful but seems exempt from any kind of criticism on here. Levi didn't get into the game at all today, and when he did, he was shocking. But seriously, Maybury is terrible.

Bryn Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 Thought he was the pick of the 4 midfielders who started. Jarrett is laughable, slow cumbersome and uses his fat arse to push players out the way. He was missing for the whole first half. Tiatto was his usual shite thuggish self. The thing that stood Hughes out from the other 3 incompetants was that when the crowd turned on him after his 5 minute spell of pish in the first half he stayed with it and never hid. People call him a bottler, he has more heart than most out there. Admittedly we scored when he went off but he never deserved to be pulled, he was the only one putting his foot on the ball throughout. Still if you want a team of headless chickens then you are getting them in Jarrett, Tiatto, Porter, Hume and Hammond. Personally I prefer to see my players on the ball and not twirlling round like the tazmainian devil. You amuse me. I took the liberty of bolding all the individual parts which caused you to look foolish.
Daggers Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 LCFC post of the year 2007. Oh stop it - you'll just encourage him to start doing longer and longer posts. It'll end in tears, you mark my words.
BartonFox Posted 6 April 2007 Author Posted 6 April 2007 Throughout this entire thread not one person has been able to tell me what Levi Porter does  It's absolutely pathetic, he was atrocious and has been all season, but because he is small and comes from our Academy apparently he is free to be as shite as Elvis Hammond. As for the slating of Maybury, you lot are taking the piss big style he was by far and away our best player and made 2 mistakes. Did you see Porter running around and away from him and the 2 chances he had to put crosses in he hit a defender and then hit the Family Stand.
C-man Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 Throughout this entire thread not one person has been able to tell me what Levi Porter does  Porter stands on the left wing, and ocassionally tries to beat his man. More often that not however, he oddly cuts inside onto his right foot. Rarely, he puts in a half-decent cross. Still love him though, cos he went to my school, innit.
Jimmy Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 He thinks hes Steve Gerard. even gerrard would look shit in our team, hughes just isnt good enough for the English game, he'll be back north of the border next season and good luck to him

Maybury, best player? - Fryatt coming on changed the game, as we looked far more threatening once he came on, before his good bits of skill & clinical finish. Don't think it was any co-incidence that Jarrett had his best spell once Hughes went off either. And that is the ongoing problem with Hughes, we can't find a combination that works with him - Williams & him never worked, only chance now would be a fit Weso & him, but can't see that happening. Doesn't mean the fans should react like they did when he came off though. Porter, Derby crowded out as soon as he got the ball, one tight on him another close by, good tactics by Derby, they weren't doing the same on the right wing. Hughes & Stearman look to completely lack confidence - not sure therefore they should be played on one side of the pitch together Tiatto, although doing his usual headless chicken at times, I thought generally played well today, certainly better than Hughes. As for sections of our fan base, presumably it's now Hughes's turn to be hounded out, like Low previously & then Stewart etc etc, this aspect of our "SUPPORT" (perhaps they should check in a dictionary for it's meaning) sickens me

DaveyJ Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 I felt sorry for Levi today, no one was giving him the ball even when he got himself into space. As soon as Maybury got the ball Derby had a man going to him and one on Levi. The few times Maybury gave him the ball it was given when the Derby man was just getting to him and Levi had no where to go. If some of our players would play crossfield balls, there was a number of time when they would have found Levi in space ready to go.
STUHILL Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 I think Levi suffers from the same problem Hume does, i.e the players around them just aren't good enough. I thought Maybury was useless today (as always) So many times he pumped the ball forward with no outcome, is he retarded or something! Did he not see it wasn't working! I feel sorry for Porter, Hume, Kisnorbo, Henderson, Fryatt and Tiatto for having to play with those useless lot! GET RID OF THE CRAP!!!!

My oh my fancy Derby players closing down Leicester players, how unsporting of them. Personally I would have thought that it would be down to little Levi to create space allowing the lambasted Maybury to give our creative genius the ball I have repeatedly read on here Porter is as tricky player yet he couldn't beat those pesky Rams players who closed him down.

I would give credit to Tyrone Mears to be honest. He did his job well all game and didn't give Levi a sniff. Every players entitled to a bad game and Levi just had one of those today. Can't we all agree on that?
Daggers Posted 6 April 2007 Posted 6 April 2007 Can someone tell me what the word SOCIOPATH means? I don't know why this thread makes me think of the word but...
