Who remembers this game versus Birmingham?

C’mon Leicester!

Birmingham City 0 v 1 Leicester City

English Premiership

If ever Leicester City won more than simply a football match it was their 1-0 victory over Birmingham at St Andrews on Saturday.

The previous fortnight, far from a refreshing break, had been a nightmare, the repercussions of La Manga rolled on and manager Micky Adams knew when he arrived at the ground that the cameras following his every step were not there on a sporting mission.

His players also knew that they had a bigger job than just the search for points. And, just when nothing else could possibly go wrong, it promptly did, Steve Guppy injuring his back in the warm-up.

That meant a rapid re-jig with Trevor Benjamin, recalled from a loan spell at Brighton, stepping up from the bench to start the game and '17th man' Nicolas Priet suddenly stripping for action.

But when Les Ferdinand slotted the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute, so much pressure from so many sources was lifted.

This time, City were not to be denied, the siege mentality was well in place and three points blasted them out of the relegation places.

Happily, the vital strike was right in front of the travelling fans, a Ricky Scimeca cross being touched on for Muzzy Izzet to slide the ball into the goalmouth and the wily Ferdinand made no mistake from close in.

The impression from then on, unlike in some previous games, was that this time, of all times, City were not going to let it slip.

The defence in front of an in-form Ian Walker was superb, Nikos Dabizas outstanding alongside young Matt Heath, and while the Blues set up a late onslaught, there was only going to be one outcome.

Of course, Adams knows this is only the beginning of City's drive towards rehabilitation in the eyes of many, but it was nevertheless just the start he had hoped for.

"It's been a difficult two weeks that we would rather have not had at the club," he said.

"We've dealt with it the best way we could, but we wanted to make the right sort of head-lines with our performance - and we did that.

"I'm not surprised by the reaction of the players. We wanted to give something back to our fans. The only thing I asked for today was a commitment to the shirt, to work as hard as they possibly could.

"In the dressing room afterwards there was a certain amount of euphoria but I don't think that had anything to do with the events of the past two weeks. That was because we hadn't won in 15 games. We've not had that feeling for a while.

"I was glad that at long last we had a match to look forward to.

"The lads responded in the right way, in the only way they can do, via their performances on the pitch. The fans have remained steadfast with their loyalty to us. You saw that with the reaction from the first whistle. We haven't lost the majority of them. We've got a lot of bridges to make up. We might have lost some of the fans but the only way we can get them back is by winning games."

The banter between the two sets of supporters was always going to be a feature but thankfully it was on a good-natured level.

"I thought the Birmingham City fans were excellent. I applauded them," said Adams.

"It was all good-natured, good banter. It was friendly banter, on the side-lines as well. I take my hat off to them and applaud them.

"We can expect more of the same. We've got the Scousers next week!"

The win does indeed give that next game, at home to Everton, an added spice and having nosed ahead of the bottom three, City aim to stay there.

On this game, they showed how it can be done

Yeah went to that one, remember staying behind for about half and hour after the game singing.

It was just after La Manga or something wasn't it?

i really wish I could be at the game tonight, but can't so I just want everyone who is there at the game today and the rest to get behind the lads and make some noise! that little bit more noise and therefore little but more drive in the players could be the difference between league 1 and the championship

DJ Campbell ... Andy Cole ... Nicholas Bendtner ... Cameron Derome ... Rowan Vine ... Forsell

Pah!

They all pale in the face of Elvis and The Horse.

That sounds like a great title for a kids book...I wonder what adventures they would get up to? :D

I think the reader would be bitterly disappointed at the end

I feel sorry for Wesolowski, he doesn't have a central midfield partner of any ability, so I'd go with 3 in midfild and 3 in attack. :worship:

Feel sorry for me. I can't even spell Leyton Orient the right way.

But can anyone else feel the momentum about the club. And I don't think that it is pointing down.

I've got rid of all my negativity. Genuinly think we're going to win today. Not sure how or why and its based on no logic, no analysis of the teams or anything opta stats related...just a gut feeling!

COME ON CITY!

I pray to god that we win this. All this talk of League 1 and the paint trophy is ridiculous and we certainly dont belong in League 1.

Hopefully the lads are up for it for once and we get straight into them! We need some fight. If i were manger id get Taggs in the dressing room! Thatd get em fired up!

COME ON CITY!!

With there poor away from this could be our only chance to get something tonight.

I'd love to see some passion tonight but I really don't think the players are up for this relegation battle.

When a team is in bad from they always seem to stop that run against us.

I was supposed to be off today, but I was asked yesterday if I could come in for a few hours today and I agreed... I was going to ride the bus to work, but when I got to the stop, traffic was at a standstill (and from what I hear, 'twas like that for miles--eight inches of rain in 36 hours will really f*** up suburban roads) and 20 minutes after the scheduled arrival, still no bus...

...so I said, "F*** it." I turned around and went home and called up my job and told them it wasn't happening today. This game is huge, and I'm glad Mother Nature decided that I'd be much better off following the game on my computer this afternoon instead of working.

COME ON, LEICESTER!!!

...and Let's Go, Rangers (New York, that is...)

They've got so many players who can worry us, most notably gary McSheffry in my book. They definitely make life very hard for us tonight.

On the positive side of things, I honestly believe with a win tonight we'll save ourselves. I know it's not as simple as that but we can hope eh...
