Fox in a Box Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 even nearer to leicester................... Nottingham Forest have unveiled plans for a multi-million pound 50,000-capacity stadium on the edge of the city. The club wants to leave the City Ground and move to a site off the A453 near Clifton. It is hoped the new stadium would host World Cup matches in 2018 if England wins the right to stage the championships. The stadium is part of plans to redevelop about 300 acres of land. There could be hotel, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities, housing and industrial units. The site would be linked to the city not only by the A453, which is due to be turned into a dual carriageway by 2011, but also the proposed extension to the tram system and the new Parkway train station near the M1, which is scheduled for completion in 2009. Forest chief executive Mark Arthur hopes the stadium design will be 'groundbreaking'. The plan has been drawn up in partnership with Leicester developers Wilson Bowden. Forest had explored the possibility of extending the City Ground - which was a host venue during Euro 96 - but transport problems and land issues scuppered the idea.
Simi Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 50,000 ? Don't they need to maintain Premiership stability for them to even think about considering this.
Durnerz Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Just what do they plan to fill it with exactly? Cardboard cut-outs of Brian Clough to mask the empty seats?
Fox in a Box Posted 20 June 2007 Author Posted 20 June 2007 Torvill and Dean? Put this in the main thread come on we can have a laugh today!
Fox in a Box Posted 20 June 2007 Author Posted 20 June 2007 come on davidG put this in the main forum... its worth the laugh!
Durnerz Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Big Issue salespersons outside the ground instead of Programme sellers.
Fox in a Box Posted 20 June 2007 Author Posted 20 June 2007 they may well call our ground the crisp packet well heres our revenge! the ICE RINK!
Dames Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Theres one flaw to this whole plan. How are they going to get 50,000 people to pay expensive prices to watch League 1 games? They will spend alot building a stadium that will only have 1 and a half stands full at best which will leave them skint with no money to buy players leaving them will lower chances of promotion which in turn keeps fans away. They could probably end up going in admin from all of this.
Fox in a Box Posted 20 June 2007 Author Posted 20 June 2007 they have yeovil to look forward to anyhow!
Stevosevic Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 How are they going to fill that, if they can then we can as we are a bigger city.
Tubes Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 How are they going to fill that, if they can then we can as we are a bigger city. and a bigger team in a better situation i think its hilarious that the f*rest board or whoever are actually considering this its riduculous
Phube Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 But... But... it's round!!?? How are they gonna fit a pitch in there!??
stripeyfox Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 Point of fact - Although Leicester's "City" area has a slightly larger population than Nottingham's "City" area, there can not be much doubt that Nottingham and it's suburbs have a larger population than Leicester and it's suburbs (666,000 for Nottingham against 445,000 for Leicester - approximately). Having said that of course, they will still struggle to fill 50,000 even if they were to consolidate a premiership position!
Blue Bob Posted 20 June 2007 Posted 20 June 2007 No question this will be the nicest stadium in the third division. This is nearly as funny as Leeds being relegated (not quite though)!!!! They are hoping that if England get the world cup finals again that this will be one of the stadiums used. I think I know the problem, look at the stadium it looks like a space ship, the directors are clearly spacemen who have not visited planet earth for sometime.
Lillehamring Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 aren't they broke? mind you their council seems to have plenty of cash - new ice rink, tram system.... - wouldn't be surprised if it's some kind of municiple ground!
Monk Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 Forest have good enough support to fill 50,000 IF they were any good. It would be a horrendously large risk for the club to take on. Surely they have better things to spend their money on, like stop being so shi t!
stevie909 Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 it looks like a dalek crapped on the ground and they just put trees around it to make it look mildy respectable.
