OriginalRobboFOX Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Our odds of winning the Championship (with Ladbrokes) have gone from 16's to 14's and only Southampton (9/1), Wolves (6/1), Watford (9/1), West Brom (8/1), Charlton (6/1), Sheff Utd (9/1) are above us.... Do the bookies know somethin we dont?? Is everyone else that confident?? I personally think its an even stronger division this year with some quality teams vying for promotion.... I think a long hard enduring season lays ahead and I think play offs is our best hope....
Raj Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Keep your money in your pocket pal!!! The bookies are always the winners, as i know from past experiences!!!
He's not bald Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I walked passed Coral's and they were offering 12/1 It's a real lottery until everything settles down..even then there are always 1 or 2 teams that surprise and the same that fail to meet their potential..keep your money in your pocket,if you could beat the bookies there would'nt be any!
Kent Fox Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Might be worth a couple of quid on Preston or Stoke then. I assume they are decent odds... Although it pains me to say, at this point (and I am sure it will change during pre-season), I'd fancy Wolves to win it.
Thracian Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Even accepting we're still chasing pieces for our puzzle, the already established strength of others and the depth of their pockets still suggest we'll do well to get in the top six. Allen would deserve praise for that although MM might do well to send him on gardening leave - just for a couple of weeks - if we get to the play-off finals!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I still think there's a gap at the top for a team to run away with it. Charlton have a decent squad but I don't think they have a Championship-winning strikeforce. This could change if they sign someone decent with their recent £14million windfall. Wolves have some decent players and are probably the pick of the bunch for me but they will have a lot of pressure on them. WBA's squad will be dismantled by the time they start the season. Sheffield United - Bryan Robson. Southampton have lost Bale and look set to lose Baird as well since last season. Watford will have to get used to the pressure of being expected to win again after being the whipping boys in the Premiership - something even Sunderland had difficulty adjusting to at the start of last season despite their overall triumph - and have lost Ashley Young who was a key player last time they were promoted. If Milan pushes the extra yard, makes some difficult decisions and brings in two midfielders and a striker of proven quality at this level, we do have a chance of making the top six. At the moment we are short.
Simi Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I actually think the league will be a lot closer this year within the top 6-8. As Fez says the relegated teams from the Prem will have a lot of pressure on them to win every week. West Brom look set to lose a lot of their better players, as do Southampton. Hopefully with a couple more attractive signings we can mount some pressure on the top eight.
Blue Bob Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I think there are a lot of transfers still to happen before you can make a decision on the front runners. I think the odds for Southampton are very favourable seeing as they have lost several players and are in financial trouble and therefore unlikely to be able to buy. Suprised there are not odds with Cardiff and Sheff Wed as I think they will have a good go this year. One thing is clear it is going to be a tough league next season!!

Not so sure about Cardiff but I think Sheff Wed will go well this season. I don't think Southampton, Norwich and West Brom will be around the playoffs either.
Geo V Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 We will probably end up with 70% of our team all new players (if not more) more the start of the season so to expect them all to gel and become a winning team is unrealistic IMO. You cant just buy all these players and expect them to hit it off straight away and even MA wont know his best team for a good few weeks of the lads playing to his system. Hopefully we can somehow make it to the play-offs but as a betting event its pointless unless the price is ridiculously high. Before making a bet I suggets that you guys go to this site and check for the best available odds. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/englis...ship/win-market That is a direct link for the championship and you can get 20/1 with loads of firms and 21/1 on Betfair. Also if its the first time you are opening an account most firms give you a free bet upto £20-50 so you can place a £20 bet on Leicester and then have a saver and bet the £20 on someone else maybe so you get full value for your pound. Maybe someone from Foxestalk can set up a affiliate account so we advertise those betting firms on here by way of a banner ad because everyone that signs up through a link will also recieve money, usually £20. Its easy to do and if anyone needs help to do it on here just drop me a message.
Joe. Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think we'll be anywhere near the top 6 at the end of the season.
Daggers Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 What I find amazing are the low odds being offered on us being promoted (not winning the league). Fives and sixes? I'll pass.
Lord Nibblington Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Pah you bunch of doom merchants. I would imagine life as a doom merchant to be quite tough. Since all it takes is one of your rivals to nip in before you and flog some doom, and then you're pretty screwed. Really.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 What the hell have we done to get odds as low as those banded about, a new manager and about £200,000 spent after finishing 19th last season, in my opinion that doesn't constitue for an instant promotion, the bookies should surely realise this.
Master Fox Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I remember when we were relegated and were favourites to win the league and I think we finished 15th that season?

Although we haven't spent loads we do look like we have become significantly stronger this summer plus we are keeping hold of our best players from last season. We also have the promise of four more new players on their way. A large amount of teams in the division look like they will be weaker next season as they struggle to keep hold of important players (West Brom, Southampton, Colchester, Preston) so I don't think the odds are too whacky. I think 8th wouldn't be an unrealistic finish for us and at present the odds put us at about 7th/8th.

Nearly get relegated again a few times never put the bookies off giving us crap odds because we are, at this level, a big club and the odds will always be short(ish).
LCFCIMPS Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Watford at 9s looks very good. I hope Leicester do well aswell. will be keeping eye on your scores.
kyleolly Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 i had a tenner on us to win the league last week at 16/1.
LCFCIMPS Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 i had a tenner on us to win the league last week at 16/1. Good Luck. I think we are 16/1 to win league two. I just hope we finish top 3.
