I agree.

He will never be a world beater (or a good header of the ball) but he was ours and he gave defenders some shit.

Hammond on the other hand gave us all shit.

rather mdv than elvis

Remember when MDV reprted back to pre season training earlier than everyone else to get himself fit? What a remarkable season he went on to have.

Well, he scored 12 goals which is hardly the worst return, espeically considering the amount of games he played.

I'm not saying he's pele, but he has been treated like shit here I'm amazed he still wants to train get fit and play for us tbh, credit to him.

Of course this might not be true, it might be MA way of attempting to lure a buyer.

Have to agree with Manwell, for the amount of effort he's put in he deserves better treatment. It's just a shame he wasn't all the good, but he's a shining example of how much effort a player should be putting into improving his game.

2 goals in 27 games according to wikipedia doesn't do him justice either. It would be an honest waste to keep him unless he really comes good.

Whats that Den Hagen stats?

TBF about 25 of those 27 games where as sub.

And I bet Den Hagen only scored about 30 goals all season.

It's strange when almost everybody thinks their top goalscorer for the season is just totally shit. Well that's how it was at the end of the 05/06 season :dunno:

If he works hard I still think he could stake a claim for a place in the lineup purely because he's a different option up front and we only really have Cort who fits the same sort of bill. I want him to do well because I feel sorry for him in a way.

Even if MA doesn't rate MDV and doesn't have him in his plans it is still good management.

He is right to be talking him up if he wants to find hm another club , as you don't move players on by badmouthing them.

He should also be making it clear to the other strikers that there is significant competition for their places and letting it be known MDV is in with a shout helps that no end.

Yep, I am feeling confident and I'm gonna go all out and say we should give him a second chance and keep him for a season on the bench and bring him on to disrupt / rough up defences in the last 20 minutes of games and start him in others when the two main strikers need a rest for a game or two.

Everyone is right and we have treated him like shit during his time here and it's a shame when most of the time he's always at least had the determination if not the ability. I think he will be motivated and take his chance with both hands and if we perform better in midfield we will no longer have to hoof it up to him and rely on him to do everything up there. And of course all of this is based on nothing except for the fact I am feeling generally optimisitc in a good mood!

On balance, seems like there's a lot of love in the house for MDV.

The band wagon has started rolling. Until the wheels fall, naturally. ;)

I wouldn't say love, just support and maybe a bit of pity for a player who has been treated over-harshly. I would prefer to see him leave the club, due to his wages and apparent ineffectiveness, yet if he were given a chance, he deserves as much support and time (not boos and jeers) as any other player.

He still needs to leave.

He's just not as bad as some make out. :dunno: I've always said that.

Maybe not, and given his will to prove himself is commendable to the extent that Douglas, Hughes, Maybury and Hammond should go before him. And perhaps Dodds, who by all standards had a miserable season in the best possible light.

The good point in keeping him is to raise his/any value is that we seem to have a good man-manager for considerable time since Adams (my impressions of him are superficial but that seemed to be a strength.)

Fickle doesn't even begin to sum up the majority of posters on this site

MdV was frozen out because that pissy little nomark Rob Kelly cut his nose off to spite his face. Had he kept him around it might have made the shite style of football he employed work.

MA is already thinking of keeping some of the listed players as he has been impressed with more than their attitude thus far.

I admire his attempts to keep fit and if anything improve his physical fitness but I don't see the value in keeping him. He is on the wrong side of 30, on some of the highest wages at the club, has barely scored any goals for two seasons so confidence would be low and he has no special talent to call upon (i.e pace, long-range shooting, ability to take on players......).

How have we treated him like shít?

Name calling?

Sending him on loan because he wasnt good enough? (the clubs AND HIS decision)

Dont forget most of us have and are still contributing to his wages. It is bewildering. Multi-millionaire owner yet for some reason some people want to give an awful player like MDV another chance.

He is only here because no one else wants him. He'd be off like a shot if he got a decent offer.

While were at it, lets get Lee Morris back, he's just helped Yeovil win promotion.

Well when he left us in the middle of January 2006 he was already on 9goals for the campaign the same as Iain Hume managed in the entire season. even this year Hume only got 14 yet becomes a star player, although the effort Hume seems to put in is far greater. His goal scoring record that season was pretty good an infact I think he was our joint leading scorer the season before last even though he left half way through!!

but yes his wages are sky high but that's not his fault and you can't fault his application and desire just a shame he lacks the ability.

although it has a lot to do with being rubbish in the air like many tall players he was better with his feet but our players always went for the easy HOOF option

Leicester fans always have a way of not giving a player a chance if you like MDV's Leicester career was over before he started imo in the same way any player at LB or RB always seems to be singled out for abuse

Hume was our star player before a ball was kicked.

i think de vries is back in the picture and he looked eager and slimmer, and i think martin allen is probably looking to get the best out of him because cort is already injured, he hasn't trained yet again today.

i was down there today!
