Daggers Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 If you want to know what happens and dont want to read the book just go on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_...Deathly_Hallows I reckon that downloading the crap films from the internet is even easier for anyone determined to follow the adventures of the poorly-written one.
Monk Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I despise with passion the marketing machine that is Harry Potter. I am not a big fan of fantasy books anyway, or kids books for that matter! I will stick to my Rankin methinks!! As my friend recently pointed out to me, an adult reading Harry Potter is just another way of saying you're not switched on enough to read a proper book. Make what you will of that

Make what you will of that I finished reading Harry Potter yesterday and am now reading The Godfather by Mario Puzo. Make of that what you will.

I take it your friend reads Maeve Binchy cause she write for adults!??
DB11 Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 I'm on Chapter 18 after reading a bit every night. It's quite good but some Chapters are just weird and you can't get a hang of what is going on

Define 'proper book'. I take it your friend reads Maeve Binchy cause she write for adults!?? Phube, my firend I wasnt having a go. Even I every couple of years or so pick up my old 'fantastic mr fox' book and reminisce over what a great book it is. What annoys me is the culture which surrounds the book. I'm sure it is a good read, but for non Harry Potter readers you get the impression that a lot of people read it simply because its popular culture. I mean, it is a childrens book series, written for children, enjoyed by adults - and if you read other books then thats great. However I think the reality is that there are a lot of people who simply read Harry potter, and when theyre not reading it theyre reading Heat magazine. Thats the type of people I was referring to. And I guess its that which puts me off reading it, plus the fact I dont really enjoy fantasy novels.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 Anyone seen Hairy Peter and the Philosophers Bone?

Phube Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 You really are a 5 year old stuck in a mans body. Yup, and I enjoy life whilst I am!! I play/read/watch things because they are fun/interesting/challenging/exciting not because they are cool/trendy/everybody else does... etc!
Daggers Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 You really are a 5 year old stuck in a mans body. It's better than being a man getting stuck in a 5 year old's body *ahem* I think my answer was better, Phube.
Phube Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 *ahem* I think my answer was better, Phube. Too true Daggers!! I was preoccupied by Monk's post below (or above if you're reading this, which you are!?) and didn't see your nice rebuttle!!
Dr The Singh Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 This new Harry Potter book sounds a bit saucy No, that's Horney Potter, and the philosiphers porn!!!!
Master Fox Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 No, that's Horney Potter, and the philosiphers porn!!!! Oh, I've read that. Quite good actually, I would recommend it!
Dr The Singh Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 Oh, I've read that. Quite good actually, I would recommend it! Horney Potter is great!!!
Daggers Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 By the way...the Harry Potter cultural phenomenon sucks arse because I don't believe that any of these people buying the book will bother to read them or go on to read other books. This is just like Spycatcher - only more boring.
