Graz Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I'd imagine there is a good chance at least one signing would be announced today (Monday). Nothing would've been announced while they were in Scotland, but MA did say the original plan was to come back Monday but they brought it forward a day I think? Things could've been sorted while the squad were away and now be unveiled tomorrow. Plus the team photo is taking place tomorrow, and "if you're not in the photo you don't exist"
lildave3 Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Is this another thread turned into a youth team discussion?
teblin Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I'm not sure how you arrived at your above comment without making various false assumptions.I support all of the teams you mentioned and support the idea of for once having the strongest first team we can muster from the players available, whatever their reputations and whatever they cost. It bothers me that we seem incapable of facing facts when it comes to our failings and doing something about them. I don't care if the average age of the side is 18 or 28 to be honest. It is the calibre of the side that's important. And a side that lacks aerial threat, goals from the flanks and prolific centre forwards isn't going to be high calibre. But that wasn't a campaign fanfare for Andy King or anyone else. King will doubtless play reserves football this year or go out on loan. I simply said you'd go a long way down in the club to find an aerial attacker which, to my mind is something of an indictment. If players in the youth team are deemed good enough they will play. But we do need a target man that will be fit enough to play every week,.
surrifox Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I'm struggling to think of City's last really effective "aerial attacker" - Elliott or Izzett probably - certainly not a forward since Ewan Roberts?
Ric Flair Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I'm struggling to think of City's last really effective "aerial attacker" - Elliott or Izzett probably - certainly not a forward since Ewan Roberts? I wouldn't call Izzet an "aerial attacker"
teblin Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I'm struggling to think of City's last really effective "aerial attacker" - Elliott or Izzett probably - certainly not a forward since Ewan Roberts? Les Ferdinand was decent, so was Brian Deane and Scowy had a good season when we got promoted.
Simon Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Les Ferdinand was decent, so was Brian Deane and Scowy had a good season when we got promoted. I was going to say- long balls and aerial attackers were our bread and butter that season...
Lester LXXIV Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Ewan Roberts? What the fu ck? I think he means Iwan TPH
surrifox Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Les Ferdinand was decent, so was Brian Deane and Scowy had a good season when we got promoted. of course
Geo V Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 The more the merrier. Get them in and make them fight for a place and boot the buggers out who arent pulling their weight.
Blue Bob Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 The more the merrier. Get them in and make them fight for a place and boot the buggers out who arent pulling their weight. Not so easy when the buggers have got contracts though or we would have been shot of Rab a long time ago!!!
Geo V Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 [/b]Not so easy when the buggers have got contracts though or we would have been shot of Rab a long time ago!!! Yeah thats truE but I meant boot them into the reserves. We have missed competition for places at this club and so many players have been going through the motions because they know there wasn't much else to bring in from the bench. We had no reserve team and a manager who was too weak to try something different in the way of one or two of the academy kids and it was only until Wortho came in that Mattock even got a game! This time around the players know they have to train hard and play well to get in the side which will be a huge factor in us gaining better performances and hopefully better results.

I agree that we need competition for places but I am concerned how much dead weight we will be carrying. The likes of Douglas, Hughes, Maybury, Kenton ect dont seem to be going anywhere, as they seem to be on good money that no one is prepared to match, I doubt they will be in the reserves so basically they will pick up their wages for doing nothing. When there is a group of that size doing it, there is a danger that it becomes catching!!
oO RUSTYNAIL Oo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 OK i know this has nothing to do with this topic at all, but you know that memorial match for Alan Ball the other day Les Ferdinand scored and he looks like he has still got the quality if only he was 5years younger, he would still be awsome, as he was for us, ill nevwer forget the free-kicks he took for us, they were pretty damn good
Joe. Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Wonder if any one will be announced today.. hmm I doubt it now. They normally announce them early ish like 10/11 or at least call a press conference for later in the day
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I doubt it now. They normally announce them early ish like 10/11 or at least call a press conference for later in the day Maybe MA and MM forgot to set their alarms and are running late. Fingers crossed
Blue Bob Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I doubt it now. They normally announce them early ish like 10/11 or at least call a press conference for later in the day If we have spent money they will call a press conference so that will not be today. If it is a free or a loan then they might still get signed today.

In hindsight, lads, I reckon they are more likely to sign players after tonights fan consultation in order to make full use of micro/macro media opportunities. N.
