Ferreira Flys In

Leicester City have today added to their international ranks with the signing of Portuguese winger Marco Ferreira on loan from Benfica until the end of the year.

The 29-year-old flew into the country on Friday afternoon and signed on the dotted line ahead of the midnight transfer deadline.

Known for his speed on the flank, Ferreira becomes the 15th new addition to the Leicester City squad since the end of last season.

Chairman Milan Mandaric said: "We have been searching long and hard for a wide player and we hope that Marco will bring the dimension that we have been missing."

Ferreira began his career at Portuguese side Tirense, before moving to Spanish Giants Atletico Madrid in 1998. A loan move to Japanese side Yokohama Flugels followed, before the player made the switch to Pacos de Ferreira in 1999. He became a key player at Pacos, and would make a total of 88 appearances for the club before spells at Vitoria and FC Porto.

Ferreira joined Benfica in 2005. He has four international caps to his name for his country.

The player will now join up with the City squad on Monday - with the club facing a two-week break before their next competitive fixture against QPR at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday, September 15.

"So his mate asked him straight out......Allen said that he couldn't even pick the team without MM interfering, that MM was constantly telling him who should play, that he had been asking for several weeks for a left-sided player, because he could see we were playing too narrow, yet whenever he went to MM about it, MM was only interested in bringing another striker in. That he wouldn't let him go after the players he really wanted, and he brought players in who he could tell straight away WOULDN'T be good enough, but MM wouldn't listen."

Pretty pleased with this. Thought it was taking a long time to happen. Nice to see us signing International players from Benfica. I get the impression he is more of a right sided player but I'm hoping he'll play on the left for us.

I assume the rumoured clause about an option to buy at the end of the season didn't happen?????

Contrary to what most people are thinking about the transfer of Ferreira, I did see something like this happening... Martin Allen was clearly sacked because he was putting up a fight against the Milan control in the transfers department and to be honest, with no manager in charge and any person still at the club fearing for their futures and not putting up any sort of challenge to him, Milan would have all the time and space he needed to sign whatever player he needed or wanted to sign.

Hence Ferreira's signing and it might well not be the last... although he would be leaving it a bit late if any more were to come in...
