Daggers Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 But weren't you getting heart attacks when we were defending so desperately. We ended up with 9 defenders on the field and on another day we could've conceded. I'd been ensconced in a pub for two and a half hours prior to the game having a lovely time, the best pub in Brum. I wouldn't have cared if we'd fielded 27 defenders - we went out onto the field and met them man for man. We fought for balls, we made attacks and Clem was a god - and with a bit of luck we took the game. Thems the breaks in football. Is Meggo a tactical genius? Probably not ~ but he still isn't the managerial Satan that some would like to paint him out to be. Is the squad going to go on and get promotion? No...but we never were. We were solid in defence (IMHO), I thought it may go to extra time but we held out. No heart attacks, just a lot of laughs and good humoured chants. Bring on Saturday! the stats speak for themself: Actually, they don't. They were being shown on the screen - and me & Kokopops were highly confused because, to be honest, they were full of shit. We had by far the majority of possession throughout the first half and I'd go 60/40 for the second (us being the 40). They missed out all of our shots off target in the first half...it was all rubbish. If you are going to form an opinion of the game from the stats - don't!
Daggers Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Wasnt expecting that! Upstaged by Covscum though Attaboy Roy! You focus on the positive!
WetFlannel Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Did manchester united actually field a half decent team against cov?
mkingy Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Did manchester united actually field a half decent team against cov? "United boss Sir Alex Ferguson changed his entire team from Sunday's win against Chelsea and paid the price. ... United may have rung the changes, but their side still contained six full internationals and the result is a major embarrassment for Ferguson." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/l...cup/7008020.stm Second string, but with some decent players in. Megson deserves credit for getting the result tonight, Stoke is the key match as to whether i side with him or stand off him.
Koke Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Did manchester united actually field a half decent team against cov? Their team were outrageously bad. Arsenal kids would make them look like a pub team.
Thracian Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 There are a lot of people on here who need to grovel badly! Where's a willy puller smilie when you need one!The formation worked a treat. Well done Megson and all the lads. That's the passion and drive i wanted tonight. Oh, and shove that up your arse Master Fox! Super Matty Fryatt! That's the quality! I hope TPH put his money where his mouth was and had Fryatt to score first and City to win 1-0. I only staked a fiver but it rounded the day off nicely!! As for the game itself, Fulop was man of the match with two terrific saves and another that was decent. The defence deserved overtime payments and we had one shot of note. If anyone is deluded into thinking tonight showed the way forward they weren't sitting around me at the match. But manager's have talked about working on the training ground in the past and there's been no signs of it afterwards. This time work has clearly been done. Defenders were tighter than a jockstrap and there was no signs of any lapses in concentration. There was closing down and commitment all night and from people who have previously thought closing down was what shops did when they couldn't run at a profit. Fryatt was probably only minutes from being taken off when he scored by it was a quality goal from what rated as probably our only decent pass of the night by Stearman. Fryatt stayed calm, manouevred into position, dummied and was deadly in his finish. He only had an ordinary game but it was a memorable and classy way to end a goal drought.

If you are going to form an opinion of the game from the stats - don't! wouldn't dream of it - but even 60/40 (which the BBC agree on upto about 80 minutes) still suggests that we did nothing more than what everyone feared, ie. sit back, hang on, and sneak something - worked tonight, but that is not expect to happen every game, yet so far that seems to be the game plan... gotta start somewhere i guess, but still to describe this result as anything other than a one-off, right now, is plainy ludicrous...
Master Fox Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 There are a lot of people on here who need to grovel badly! Where's a willy puller smilie when you need one!The formation worked a treat. Oi listen mate, I haven't seen the goal yet but fair play. I was first to point out that i would have to eat my own hat. But let's not get carried away. We've him score similar goals against Sunderland and Derby and been shit for the rest of the season. Still has a lot to prove. Greart win and well done Fryatt.... Edit: If he can score in the league agaisnt Stoke then you might have a point.
FilboFox Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I'd take anyone in the next round! If Coventry can beat Man Utd like they did and we can beat Villa then there is hope yet that we can actually get to the quarters! BIG UP THE FOXES!!!!
DBEightyFive Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Bruno N'Gotty was a rock tonight, won pretty much everything against Harewood and Kisnorbo kept Agbonlahor quiet. Good solid defensive performance especially under constant pressure for most of the 2nd half. And Fulop's two superb saves, what can you say!!
Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 It's cos i started the match thread again. Fulop Kisnorbo Stearman Mattock Clemence. Sheer class tonight.
Daggers Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 wouldn't dream of it - but even 60/40 (which the BBC agree on upto about 80 minutes) still suggests that we did nothing more than what everyone feared, ie. sit back, hang on, and sneak something - worked tonight, but that is not expect to happen every game, yet so far that seems to be the game plan...gotta start somewhere i guess, but still to describe this result as anything other than a one-off, right now, is plainy ludicrous... No. No and No. I told you not to listen to stats and here you go doing exactly that. I pointed out that we only had less of the play in the second half and you interpret that as the entire game. Stop it. We did not "sit back, hang on, and sneak something" - we went out to try to do something. Our front line was poor, midfield was barely OK although Clem was excellent and our back line was tight. We were playing a Premiership side with a team that has had (at best) a troubled start to the season...and we played with commitment. It wasn't pretty...but we are not that good. To have produced this result deserves applause not brickbats.
Flynny Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Just got back. Wahey. Loving it. Alan Maybury? I nearly pissed myself.
Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Just got back. Wahey. Loving it.Alan Maybury? I nearly pissed myself. He's better than Steven Gerrard.
Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Megson: Everybody put their bodies on the line and worked their socks off and deserved a result that probably no-one expected. "We could have done with more quality and patience in the last third but this club has been in a relegation battle for three years. "We have the basis of a fantastic football club. We have the support, a great ground and we just need to get things right on the pitch." From the BBC.
Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I've just caught the goal now. Great finish, albeit the goal had an element of luck.
WetFlannel Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 we still only get 5 seconds in our moment of fame on itv, just like the bloody championship
Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Sky Sports news have pissed me off. Featured every game on their news clip but ours. pfft.
WetFlannel Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Sky Sports news have pissed me off. Featured every game on their news clip but ours. pfft. were not that bad
Alexikokopops Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 DU DU DU DU, MATTY FRYATT!! Just shared a cab from Cov station with two Greeks and a Syrian who were there supporting Villa. Theo Zagorakis is now chairman of PAOK in cae you were wondering, and Kidderminster Harriers are the worst football team in the world. Bloody brilliant.
Dames Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Just got back. What a smash and grab. Fulop is fooking amazing.
BedsFox Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 wasn't Mattock terrific with the extra centre back seeming to give him a lot of confidence?
Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 wasn't Mattock terrific with the extra centre back seeming to give him a lot of confidence? Yes, because Mattock knew that if he wanted to go forward, one of the centre backs could easily drop in and cover for him. He had a terrific game tonight.
