Megson's Staying

You can argue it either way depending on how you feel. While we keep drawing we'll keep hearing we've only won once in the league or we've only lost once in the league from Megson's supporters and detractors respectively.

The bottom line is that we're drawing too many games at the moment. It's better to win one, lose one than to draw two and that will reflect very clearly over a whole season's results.

I hate this "building from the back" thing though. It's utter tosh. We've played defensively. We will never score enough goals to challenge at the top of this league only committing three or four men forward at any one time (and often right-backs and defensive midfielders among those even pushing forward). It'd be the same if we were playing 4-3-3, we'd make chances but we'd be leaky at the back. But you couldn't say "we've solved the attack, now let's sort out the defence". We've only kept clean sheets because we're playing with seven or eight defensive players on the pitch not including the goalkeeper.

This is hilarious. Why on earth do they want him? It's like the SAS demanding Jack Duckworth be called up for National Service so they can fast track him in to the most dangerous and ruthless services in the world. Gartside must be an absolute goober.

In which case we should count our blessings.

Megson is a hard taskmaster

Leicester manager Gary Megson is the front-runner to become the new Bolton manager, BBC Sport understands.

Graeme Souness was interviewed for the post last week but Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has confirmed the Scot is not interested in succeeding Sammy Lee.

Now Gartside looks set to turn to Megson and he is believed to be prepared to pay £300,000 to get him.

More soon.

Official Club Statement

Posted on: Tue 23 Oct 2007

BOLTON WANDERERS FOOTBALL CLUB Chairman Phil Gartside has issued the following statement in respect of the Club's current situation in its search for a new manager.

"The process to find the next manager is on-going. We have identified our key targets and we have had interest from other people in the game. We hope to be in a position to conclude the process as soon as possible, but we will take our time to make sure we make the right appointment to take us forward.

"The right candidate for the job is someone who has strong management skills as well as football experience.

"It is a complex job to find the ideal candidate to take the Club forward in the long-term. It is a process we are working tirelessly to resolve. The range of skills required for the right successor to take us forward makes the appointment a difficult task.

"We are well aware that we are in a difficult position in the league at present. However, we believe we have a talented squad of players, who can help us achieve our immediate objective of being a successful Premier League side. We all believe that the squad possesses the right blend of experience and skill to get us through our current situation.

"As reported today, Graeme Souness was a candidate on our target list and he has now decided to remove himself from the interview process. Having interviewed him last week, I know he would have been an exceptional candidate for the role. However, I respect Graeme's decision to pull out of the process and I wish him well for the future.

"At no time in the process have we discussed our business in the public domain. We feel that this is a confidential matter that should be dealt with privately at all times. It is disappointing that our dealings have been played out in the full glare of the media.

"For the record, Mark Curtis is assisting the club in the process of finding the suitable candidate for the job. He is not representing any of the people on our target list."

Bolton to re-approach Real Sociedad - 5Live

This is brilliant. Can we expect Chris Kamara to speak out on behalf of decent clubs everywhere and condemn Bolton for unsettling managers all over the place??? ;)

... and then take the credit when Bolton avoid relegation under their new boss?

From BBC Sport;

"Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric has already warned Bolton off Megson but the 48-year-old has yet to sign a contract at Leicester since taking the reins last month."

Didn't know that!

Well, one thing's for sure, I don't think tonight will be like that Leicester-Spurs game of yesteryear with the show of support for O'Neill to get him to stay.

I think Megson will go and am happy for him to leave as I cannot take anymore dour 8 defensive players on the pitch, looking to score from a set-piece games.
