what were we to be honest? we over acheived for 6 years thats what we were (in my lifetime anyways). Alright we arent a really bad side but nothing ive seen before and since the O'Neill era makes me believe we deserve a place in the top 20 sides in England.

Well there we have it lets just skip the optimism & all that bullshit & blow our brains out!

Consistency is the key - but that's what we've been lacking in the past five years or so.

(Not that we were more consistent in the past, mind you)

Maybe we all just expect too much from the club, the team and the management.

Hopefully, we're not falling into the Leeds trap.

Yes come on let's try and keep things in perspective. Whilst it's been pretty grim viewing down at the Walkers there is at least a few chinks of light.

For a start the club is now in a far better financial position than it's ever been thanks to Milan Mandaric's investment. Let's not forget that we were perilously close to going under as a club and we'd have had a lot more to moan about than just the team! Ok, so the managerial merry-go-round certainly hasn't helped and for sure there has been some pretty dodgy signings. I think really the rot with the players started under Levein and we've struggled with the subsequent dross ever since.

We've got a very odd mix of players of very differing standards and that to my mind is the crux of our problems. Nevertheless, the game against Chelsea showed that they have far more potential than we give them credit for, and it's the inconsistency that is so frustrating. On paper we've got a formidable back three or four and a good, strong set of forwards. The midfield is very weak, and is undoubtedly our achilles heel, but that should be remedied by some judicial buying and/or loan signings.

As we all know, we desperately need a good manager. One that can consistently bring out the best in the players we've got, and play in a sensible formation with everyone (insofar as is possible) playing in their rightful positions. We need to stop this bollocks of shuffling players around willy nilly. How the hell are players meant to develop any kind of awareness with their team-mates when they're constantly being pissed about?

Easier said than done I know. Let's face it, other than Paul Jewell, all the other managers available have pretty chequered histories or lack experience at the highest level. Every one of them would be a gamble.

Even so, look at the Championship overall. It's awash with crap teams, poor players and mediocre managers. We just need to be lucky. Get the mix right and we'll be away.

Let's try and look on the bright side too!!

I'll leave you with this thought - how many chances have you seen laid on a plate for one of our strikers this season at home?

Fergie calls that dead end imagination. :(

Don't forget this is the same club that did us proud at Chelsea. For what it's worth, I reckon two or three decent, experienced players (not the donkeys we keep getting) is all that is required. Games drift away because there are no leaders out there on the pitch. There is only so much managers and coaches can do.

There are leaders and followers in life. This club has too many of the latter. With better on-field communication and leadership (experience) the followers can flourish and the team can improve drastically.

On the contrary - the club is more financially vulnerable than it's ever been. What if Mandaric decides to cut his losses and walk away? His stuffing of the payroll with players who will never kick a ball for us at first-team level means that our day-to-day losses are the same as last season if not higher. The difference is that he's underwriting them, probably with loans which will one day have to be repaid.

Meanwhile we remain as far away as ever from ownership of the stadium. Until we achieve that goal our security can never be fully guaranteed.

Well on that bright note of optimism maybe BigGibbo was right! :(

A few weeks ago people were coming back from Chelsea and saying how Brill these players of ours are.

So they DO have a decent game in them now and again????

However one swallow does not make a summer does it???

I still think that changing the Kop with The Family Stand will sort out all our problems....we need a petition..... :(
