BigGibbo Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Registering now.Everyone should do this. Yes very true i have. (I doubt much of me is any use though)
Daggers Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Anyone not prepared to donate organs should not be able to receive an organ. Any feisty young maidens that would like mine need just send a postcard containing their name, address, bra size and availability to Daggers Towers.

Rincewind Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I have no objections to the opt out method. I should imagine there are a lot of people like me that think that carrying a donor card is tempting fate. Stupid I know as you have to go at some point. I think I'll use the link above while its there and the thought is in my mind. Registered blood donor but not been for a few years because of my work. I suppose I could go to the clinic on my day off and queue up. A little extra effort is needed on my part for this sort of thing. Got to do a patrol now, so unless I drop dead during my round I will register when I get back. However I would like it be known that all of my bits are available for use if this is my last post: To think I'll miss City winning the Euro cup in a few years time.
Fox You Forest Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I carry a donor card as it is, as well as being on the bone marrow transplant list.Anyone can have my bits and pieces, I'm fine with that. I dont carry a card but i dont have a problem with anbody taking my organs if i can help save/prolong somebody else's life.
BigGibbo Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I dont carry a card but i dont have a problem with anbody taking my organs if i can help save/prolong somebody else's life. well click this Link for a donor card then as its no good to just say it & it only takes about 90 seconds to join the register.
andyh1884 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Been signed up for years. They can have any of my organs except my eyes. I don't know why, but I just don't like the idea of having my eyes removed. I know logically it makes no difference as I'll be gone & they'll be no use to me, but that's just my preference.

Rincewind Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 All done and registered. Eyes not on the list BTW. Mine are no good anyway. Been wearing specs since a baby. Re the religious aspect. quote from site. All the major religions of the UK support the principles of organ donation and transplantation. However, within each religion there are different schools of thought, which means that views may differ. All the major religions accept that organ donation is an individual choice.

Yes they are, that's your Corneas, it's part of your eye.
James. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I'm intrigued to know the views of the 8 people who have said they are totally against it. Make that 9 - someone just voted now - who are you?!
Monk Posted 14 January 2008 Author Posted 14 January 2008 It's nice to know the fruitful product of my afternoon has been to get 4 (supposedly) people to sign up to the donor register. Keep em coming

Asha Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 To be honest, i can't understand why people wouldn't want to donate their organs when they die. They'll only rot or burn anyway. Apologies if this seems harsh but it's true, organs are no use to you when you're dead.
Floating Fox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I think that people should be given the choice wether they donate or not. Therefore I see nothing wrong with the current system.
Head Honcho Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I'm interested to know everyone's opinion on this. I had a Kidney transplant off my dad 7 years ago, luckily I didn't have to wait for an organ on the transplant waiting list. There's a massive shortage of organs, not just kidneys, and the idea that there should be 'assumed consent' has been floated about a fair bit. This mean's you'd have to carry a card if you did not want you're organs to be used in the event that you died. I'm totally for it as I've seen people die, in pain, on dialysis whilst waiting for a kidney. So many people suffer and this really could make a difference. What do you think? Better not vote for "Big Dave" then!
BigGibbo Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I think that people should be given the choice wether they donate or not. Therefore I see nothing wrong with the current system. The problem with the current system is that not many people get around to it the amount of people I know who say they can have my organs when I die I don't care & then haven't actually got a donor card (which did include me) is nuts. Quite simply it costs lives, plus the family can override donor cards which I think is out of order if my family did that with me I'd be fuming(not that i'd ever know ).
Monk Posted 14 January 2008 Author Posted 14 January 2008 Better not vote for "Big Dave" then! Ironically the reason people die on dialysis is not down to the mess Labour have made of the NHS, it's because there are not enough organs. I haven't heard the Tories view on this matter, which is expected as the Gov't only announced it on Sunday. If they didn't state that they would seriously consider assumed consent I would be very disappointed, but otherwise I fail to see how voting Tory would worsen the situation. It was a labour government when I was on dialysis. People were dying then and they're dying now regardless of who is in power. Change is needed, and I actually agree with a previous post which states that if you opt out then you shouldn't be able to receive an organ. I think that's fair play.
Joe. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Yeah I signed up. I'm all for it. If there's a possibility of saving somebody's life then I can see nothign wrong with it at all.
