Master Fox Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 Leicester illegally approched holloway before he resigned?!? BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greenwalker Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 Why on earth can't you just accept that he's left? What the fook, im just making a general point. I dont give a shit he left. Grow up.
Matt Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 Perhaps i'm just looking on the optimistic side of things or maybe i'm fooling myself but if it was that shocking or serious surly they'd want it out in the open now, surly Leicester would already be being investigated, and there would be more news/rumours about.

Exactly. Anything major would make the national media as soon as it became known, some local rag wouldn't be able to sit on it for their own exclusive. I'm sure this is just the paper tryna trick one of Plymouth's 12,000 fans into buying a copy.

Another thing surly the local paper would finacially get a better deal by selling the story to the national media instead of selling it just to plymouth folk?!
Scow Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 Leicester 2-2 Plymouth - remember this thread from last year? I thought it quite amusing looking back at Holloway having a go at Hume. As for Holloway becoming manager, the last time he was linked I thought it was a birrofa sick joke. I felt the same as davieG after that home defeat to them a couple of years ago. He's done a good job at Plymouth and it seems he's changed for the better. He's had about four seasons managing at this level and should know the division well. We certainly could have done a lot worse though - Peter Reid and Graeme Souness spring to mind.
davieG Posted 24 November 2007 Posted 24 November 2007 Hume blasted back, telling the Leicester Mercury: Usually I think Holloway is always full of sh**."Who does he Holloway think he is, criticising us? He wants to sort his own team out before he starts talking about ours." Humey's fooked then!
Matt Posted 24 November 2007 Posted 24 November 2007 I'm guessing this is the "new twist" in the Ollie saga...Hardly ground breaking. PILGRIMS MADE LAST-MINUTE EFFORT TO KEEP OLLIE Plymouth Argyle made an 11th hour bid to keep Ian Holloway at Home Park.Holloway was named the new boss of Leicester City on Thursday night after tendering his resignation at Home Park on Tuesday afternoon. Former Pilgrims manager Paul Sturrock remains favourite to succeed Holloway. Holloway's resignation followed a meeting with Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton. Holloway expressed his desire to talk to Leicester about their vacancy. Stapleton refused him permission, but offered Holloway an improved contract in a bid to keep him at Home Park. Holloway, who signed a £240,000 a year contract with Argyle in June 2006, refused to consider those terms and instead resigned. Holloway said: "Paul (Stapleton) didn't want to hear that (I wanted to talk to Leicester) and said he was ready to offer me a new deal - a deal which I knew had been ready for some time. "But I wanted to talk to Leicester and when we couldn't reach agreement, my only alternative was to do what I did (resign). "Let's be honest - is it my fault I was head-hunted? It's a thing we are all after in life." While Holloway will take charge of Leicester for their trip to Bristol City today, Argyle assistant manager Tim Breacker will be looking after the Pilgrims at Sheffield United. It is expected that the Argyle board will step up their search for Holloway's replacement next week with current Swindon boss Sturrock the favourite to get the job. However, there are other names in the mix, including Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade, Steve Cotterill, Mike Newell and Martin Allen. Holloway added: "It was a massive gamble but it would have been a bigger gamble to lie to Plymouth and tell them my heart was still in it and take a new contract. "It all happened very quickly. My chairman (Stapleton) spoke to me and said: 'I've just had someone ring up from Leicester asking if they could speak to you - how do you feel about it?' "I went home to think about it, rang him back and told him how I felt. "I felt I'd like the opportunity to meet Milan and have a chat, which caused a rift, and it was never going to be the same after that, because that's not the answer my chairman wanted. "I'm driven by ambition. I'm not being disloyal, but my ambition didn't match Plymouth's." Holloway added: "There's been a lot of stick flying about, but I meant all the things I said about Plymouth. Sometimes things change. "We're going to have to move to Leicestershire now, because my wife was abused in Morrisons on Thursday. They said: 'What's it like living with a liar?' I'm not putting up with that. "Now I'm just trying to build a team - not a ground and a training ground as well - and I hope people will see it that way."

Jay Posted 24 November 2007 Posted 24 November 2007 The more you hear and read from Plymouth fans can only fill you with confidence that we have the right man at the club now Holloway should take it as a compliment really although to have members of his family abused is just plain wrong!!

Although it seems to be turning into a complete overeaction from the argyle fans, let's not go on whiter than white. If one of our managers made such wild claims about loving the club, the city, the people, the colour blue, walkers crisps blahblahblah so close to walking out we'd be fooking fuming. For me Holloway has done himself no favours by trying to justify his move with comments about low attendances, crowd reactions, not being able to hang on to his best players etc. He should have just said that Leicester was a club with more chance of making into the prem, full stop. Instead he's made it look like he had a lot of doubts about plymouth in his head, all the weeks he was banging on about being in love with the club and saying he'd never leave.
