Milan Mandaric today revealed that Leicester City could bring in as many as five new faces during the January transfer window.

But the City owner admitted it was as important to find new homes for the club's unwanted players as it was to make new signings next month.

Manager Ian Holloway has started the process of rebuilding the City squad by giving trials to two Hungarian and one Serbian player.

And he saw bids for Plymouth's David Norris and Barry Hayles knocked back before admitting he would not be going back for any of his former club's players.

But whoever Holloway targets, his chairman admitted the rebuilding would be “very challenging”.

“We need to improve and we need some help on the field,” he said.

“Ollie and (chief scout) Gary Penrice are working very hard to identify players. It's a very challenging job.

“There are other ambitious clubs out there that are working hard, as we are, so it's not going to be easy.

“But we are in a situation where we have to increase our quality and that's what we are going to do.

“We are looking at four or five players. I am going to give Ollie my support and see how we can go.

“We would also like to find some homes for some of the players here - it's not easy.

“Once you have players who don't fit into the puzzle it's a difficult situation. Players that are not playing are not happy. We will try equally hard to find them some new homes.”

He added: “The most important thing is to stabilise the club. That means we need to find some players homes and to bring in some new players that are needed.”

Holloway yesterday suggested the City job was the biggest challenge of his career.

It is a feeling Mandaric has sympathy with, saying: “I have been running into more obstacles than I have done in my life since I arrived here.

“I have to move forward, be strong and give support to my manager and hope we can overcome these challenges.”

Meanwhile, James Wesolowski could give Holloway a boost by returning over the Christmas period.

The midfielder, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, is expected to return to training in the next 10 days.

But there was bad news for striker DJ Campbell, who has yet to play since Holloway arrived at the club, after it was confirmed he has a pelvic injury that could see him out for three months.

I'm happy with that. He wants to get someone and even though the transfer window hasn't opened yet they've already started work on trying to find new homes for the dead wood.

Positive words from Milan I think. At least he realises what a challenge this is going to be. I hope 'finding new homes' for these players isn't going to be to difficult, but I wouldn't put money on that!

Here we go again!!!

It dosesn't matter how many new faces he brings in, if they're anything like the last batch we're fcuked.

Agree BUT i think some of the statements coming out from the Club suggest that they have finally come to accept that our players are not good enough.

Statements dom MM and Ollie have been kind to the players.

What they mean to say is

"We are gonna fcuk off some of the shower of shite other managers have bought"

:santa:

...which kinda makes me glad Martin Allen isn't still here.

I think Penrice has a track record of finding gems, and I think the resent poor form as really let holloway see where we're lacking. The players we get in over january are being carefully selected rather than the scattergun approach that Allen used in the summer that not only landed us with the shit we have at the moment, but pissed off the few quality players we had.

I think it's important they realise we're shit. There's no point whatsoever in pretending. We need a few new players and to ship some out. The sooner we plan for that and do that, the better. Players' like Alan Maybury, who hasn't been involved much in the team since the Sunderland rumours, should be sold next month, just dead wood really.

I hope the Serbian player is Branko Boskovic, although having said that he's now change allegience to Montenagro. But I do know Mandaric is an admirer of Boskovic's and I think his deal in Austria may be up soon.

You mean THE Branko Boskovic  He was an excellent player in his earlier days at Red Star Belgrade although since his move to PSG he seems to have lost confidence and I don't think he will ever be the player he was. Although on the Serbian front nay of the following players would be class :

Dusan Basta

Nenad Milijas

Ognjen Koroman (he was on loan to Portsmouth a couple of seasons ago)

Dejan Stankovic :D

'finding new homes'

for MDV, ELVIS, CORTINA MK2, JIMMY ACE IN THE PACK, MAYBURY, + 3 or 4 others

well there is a council estate in Coalville or Ashby which isnt quite full we could be 'finding new homes' there eh! :dunno:

Now at Red Star Belgrade where his goal scoring rate from midfield has been very impressive.

Ah yes him, we were on about him awhile ago if I remember correctly, before Milan took over properly.

I've watched him several times for Red Star and his corners are better than Sheehans!! He is a bit on the old side but has brilliant pace and is a left winger.

I remember all the talk of fancy foriegn players when Milan arrived, what did we end up with? Carl Cort and DJ Campbell.

And we're still stuck with Douglas and Hammond

I 'm guessing but it seems likely that Penrice and Olly would have been tracking transfer targets while at Plymouth who they will now try and bring here so presumably a bit of thought will have gone into it and the need to make the transfer dollar go further should work to the club's advantage. I'm a bit nervous about MM doing anything other than negotiate on the club's behalf as my gut feeling is that he couldn't spot a good player if they were sitting in his bathroom
