Ignore him ZsoltFlannel - it's a Darkside anti-Jedi mindtrick.

Abuse Apple, abuse away for we are the right, we dress in white and we...hang on, this is getting stupid. Just abuse Apple regardless.

Haha, howdja like them apples Pops? You standing up for Apple is ironically like something I'd think of in retaliation if I wasn't drunk...so bear with me for a day or so and I'll come back with a biting analogy. And it will be biting. Oh yes.

And an analogy,

Majestic, like a gazelle sweeping the planes of Elvis Hammond's ankle's medical history.

I'm fed up of these smug twats telling me that everything is better than my iPod just because it's an iPod.

Next they'll be telling me that Linux is incredible and that I should cycle everywhere.

Come on - embrace Linux.

You know you want to. Just imagine how "smug" feels like. It feels warm, It feels like 'Mom's apple pie', It feels like sloppy sex with a crack whore desperate for a late night fix.

Say faretheewell to daft iPodisms - say hello to rampant universal geek acceptance.

Does the fact I got an Archos 605 from argos for £99 on Sunday annoy you?

I rejoice. Nothing makes me happier than something bringing joy to someone else. :)

Fugging bastadybollocks  !

Good man - had many a bargain thanks to that site. Saw the Archos thread but as I don't start work for another week didn't have the funds otherwise I would have got one.

I go on MSE more often now though, not too keen on Hotdeals since it's change about.

Any good deals for the DVR Gen 5 docking station?

Yeh I used to go on MSE all the time - got loads of stuff through tesco R&R if that means anything to you.

On topic I like the look of the Touch but apparently they scratch very easily. I have never had an ipod but I have had a few friends who have and several of them had battery issues. Also even though you can rotate stuff I think 16gb is pretty poor for a current generation mp3 player at that price. I would definitely go for the Archos myself.

While I was out at Argos collecting the DVR station and then getting the kids from school the 605 was delivered.

Yea!

By a man in a van who threw it over the garden fence onto a concrete path and into a puddle.

Quite a muted Yea!

Still, it fires up and now I have to resist the temptation to play with it before it is fully charged...I'm reckoning I need to buy a ticket to Blackpool so I can give it an outing on the train.

The cost of the 605 160g at Amazon.com is $377.00 at the current rate of exchange is 1.96 = £192.34

The cost at Argos is £299.00. or am I missing something?

Yep, knowledge of the fact that generally we get shafted in the UK for consumer goods - nearly everything is cheaper in the US - look at the price of consoles etc.

I did forget about VAT which is a chunk, sales tax is 5% in this state but if you have it shipped they don't charge sales tax. It just seems that if you had a relative/friend over here you could save some serious money over time.

Which is great until it all goes tits up.

My old Archos came from the States and when it went wonky no one in Europe would cover it under warranty - they expected me to ship it back off to the US.

When I got my Nikon kit for half the cost of what it was in England that is one of the things I factored in.

Cor! Pwoar! ...and Blimey!

This thing is simply amazing, seriously amazing. I've not had a gadget like it. It's just a bit annoying when you've loaded all the music on to discover that the tags on some albums are messed up...I can't find a way to edit it like I would be able to on my Nokia N95 which seems remiss.

Posted
Daggers get dbpoweramp with the power pack to edit the tags.

I can edit tags, mate - just not when they've gone tits up on the device...and I don't fancy wading through 300+gig of music just to try to discover wayward tagging. I can do all of it with Winamp but thanks for the tip anyroads

so whats the crack with this Archos monster people?

I like the look of it from the pics is it sleak and sexy? metal or plastic feel to it?

is it cumbersome and bulky on the 160gb monster?

it looks pretty sexy by all accounts, how is it to use and add files do you have to use it's own software or does it work with Windows explorer drag and drop like?

your thoughts and comments Lisa and Daggers, and any other owners I feel like joining the revolution!!!!

It doesn't have the curves of the ipod, but there's something about it that is so damn good.

It's not cumbersome, but it feels solid, if you know what I mean.

I watched an episode of Blackadder on the way home yesterday, and after that, I shall be ignoring in-flight entertainment when I next travel on a plane.

All I want now is for the dodgy Mary Whitehouse dvds to frigging well upload.

Picture quality is outstanding and the sound production through in-ear plugs is up with the best...the iTouch sounds tinny by comparison.

It is indeed solid, chunky and substantially metal - which means it isn't one for taking on a jog around the park, but I have been using it for travelling to and from Leicester and love it to death. It's the best gadget I've ever owned.

Buying the add-ons is a pain: The DVR docking bay really should be included and not £60-odd extra - the same with the plug-ins...but I knew about that before I bought it and swallowed the cost.

Battery life runs to 4-5 hours when watching films and surfing the internet, it is claimed to be around 22 hours when just on audio but I've not tried. Streaming media from networked sources is a boon.

The 160gb has surprised me with the sheer quantity of music and video I've thrown at it - and I'm glad that I went large. I've no idea how it compares to the smaller models.

You'll need to buy an aftermarket case, the sleeve it comes with does the job but you'll end up losing the proddy things.

Finally, I got some Shure E2C earplugs as the earphones I wore seemed to attract unwanted attention from Tigers fans.
