Durnerz Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Can anyone tell me what Sheehan has exactly other than a good left foot? Reminds me of a certain Stefan Oakes, a good left foot but bugger all else. Mattock is definately worth holding on to.
Benji Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 I think the bigger question is, does Mattock want to stay. Everyone is going on about not selling and being a well funded buying club, but with Premiership interest how long will it be before he turns round and wants out? Contracts seem to mean very little in football.
Koke Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 We'll keep Mattock and we'll sign Chuck too. Two bitches with one stone.
WetFlannel Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Doesn't Stearman play for the Under 21's? I've not noticed his value soaring especially although being arguably MoM yesterday won't have done it any harm. Has he actually got on the pitch for 21s
SPF07 Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Wouldnt sell Mattock, although i would play Sheehan ahead of him. Think we have the spending power to see this signing through if Ollie really values him at this price
hebangsthedrums Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 No. We need a left back as it is so Joe can build experience over time with a bit of pressure off, and 2M for Norris is too much.
azza89 Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Why would we need to sell Mattock to be able to afford another player anyway? We have Mandaric remember
Ashley Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Has he actually got on the pitch for 21s Yes he has. He started one game for defo i'm not sure about the other one. www.thefa.com is always useful Edit** I found this for you. Under twenty one players and coaches. Why would we need to sell Mattock to be able to afford another player anyway? We have Mandaric remember Its not all about weather we have a rich chairman its about the player and his agent and weather the club bidding for him is a bigger one than ours. I dont think Mattock would move after hearing him on Radio Leicester yesterday.
Geo V Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Why would we need to sell Mattock to be able to afford another player anyway? We have Mandaric remember I was about to type the same thing! I wouldnt sell Mattock unless we got an obscene bid because his value will no doubt soar. I also wouldn't get rid unless we have a better left-back than Sheehan to bring in. As lovely a left foot as he has, he is quite woeful when it comes to defending but their is no doubt that he has some real pluses when in attacking positions, especially set pieces.
Mr Happy Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 I agreed with most on this topic Norris aint worth £2mil and I certainly wouldn't swap Mattock for him anyway. Mattock can only get better with age so is definately one for the future imo.

Thracian Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 We`re not a selling club anymore, which is a comforting thought, with regards Joe he`s a cracking player already and is improving, he was better than Stears yesterday and is better than Sheehan full stop ! I'd love you to explain why. Or why you'd prefer to ditch a bloke who creates 3/4 chances a match for one who, so far, has barely created any and in a team which runs woefully short of goals anyway. Can anyone tell me what Sheehan has exactly other than a good left foot? Reminds me of a certain Stefan Oakes, a good left foot but bugger all else. Mattock is definately worth holding on to. So which foot has Mattock got that's brilliant?
Joe. Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 So which foot has Mattock got that's brilliant? To be fair Thracian, Mattock has got more going for him than Sheehan. Sheehan offers not much more to the team than a good left foot from set-pieces. He's no good going forward and he's not great at defending either. Mattock's only 17 and is steadily improving. He poses more of an attacking threat than Sheehan and we need that. A set-piece deliverer is easier to find than a good left back, and we may just have than in Mattock in a season or two's time.

I doubt it ...

Sheehan is far more than a set-piece deliver and even this season, with such a limited attack, has created more goals or close things in attack than Mattock. That's not opinion it's fact.
WetFlannel Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 It seems the only reason people want Sheehan in their teams is due to his set pieces. Hume and Clemence can take good enough set pieces to be going on with, and I dont think their deliveries are too far behind Sheehans in terms of whether it keeps someone in the side or not.
Daggers Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 I like Mattock and would love him to stay with us - but sooner or later his head will be turned by a richer club. He will make the grade at the top level and it would be nice to think it will be with us.

hebangsthedrums Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 The jury's still out on that.Mattock is no better than Jordan Stewart was at that age. I agree with the first point, but the not the latter- Stewart was not a regular at 17 and I feel Mattock is now. I think it was the promotion season he established himself so at 25 now he would have been 20/21ish.
Fox You Forest Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Norris is a good player but i would also say Mattock could very well go on and be a much better player, Plus we could could get more than 1.5mil in a few years time. What clinches it is there is no way Mattock would go to Plymouth .

Ultra Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 But when Stewart was 17, MON didn't consider him the best left-back at the club. Steve Guppy had that position nailed down anyway. Mattock's still at least a season away from being a consistent performer at Championship level.
