James. Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 For anyone interested it is a bad, bad day for stock markets in Europe and Asia. The US is closed for Martin Luther King day, tomorrow will be interesting. BBC News Eurostoxx, DAX, CAC, Ibex all hovering around a 7% fall. Crazy. Recovering slightly now...
Monk Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Schiezer I've been too busy to monitor it this morning. FTSE down 308. That's baaaad!
James. Posted 21 January 2008 Author Posted 21 January 2008 Yep, DAX was down 7.5% at one point. Looking like you'll need to go back to September 11, 2001 for the last time we saw anything similar. Seems to be a combination of fears over US recession, stop-loss sell orders hitting the market and outright panic.
Thracian Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Natural Resources and Fixed Interest Funds are my choice. Plus bricks and mortar in places of high demand. Nothing's foolproof though.
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Schiezer I've been too busy to monitor it this morning. FTSE down 308. That's baaaad! See what happens when your back is turned?
Monk Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Panic is proof that efficient markets do not exist. Discuss
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Panic is proof that efficient markets do not exist. Discuss Replace the word efficient with the world infalliable and I'll share my biscuit with you.
MC Prussian Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 For every high season, there's a recession.
James. Posted 21 January 2008 Author Posted 21 January 2008 Panic is proof that efficient markets do not exist. Discuss Efficient markets rely on rational investors. Panic is by and large irrational. So yes, that statement is correct.
Monk Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Efficient markets rely on rational investors. Panic is by and large irrational. So yes, that statement is correct. Can I put Phd after my name now?
Daggers Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Can I put Phd after my name now? A Doctor who is a monk - that would be the kind of combination I would like to see solving crimes during peak-time Saturday night TV
Manwell Pablo Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 As an aside does any one think JTB looks a little bit like Stephen Clemance. Just a tad. I hate home economics.
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Not as much as Babylon looks like Dennis Wise. We could form a lookalikey XI of over-rated LCFC midfielders through the ages. Note: I DO rate Clemence really.
Daggers Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 If anyone would like to take refuge from the stock markets then I can let you have a surefire way of beating the casinos at blackjack and roulette. Daggers' Guide to Winning Ways (pdf) can be yours for the sum of £9.99 - and I don't believe you can really put a price on guaranteeing your future wealth but if you could £9.99 would probably be it.
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Monk is trying to play FTSE with me, under the times tables.
Monk Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Apparently Ultra looks like that bloke on the the train from Charlton to London Bridge.
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Apparently Ultra looks like that bloke on the the train from Charlton to London Bridge. That chap's a nice bloke apparently, according to our Lisa.

By my guessing if you had made a fortune gambling you wouldn't spend your day on FT
Monk Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 That chap's a nice bloke apparently, according to our Lisa. I should hope so too after the home baked luxuries he turned down.
Manwell Pablo Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 That chap's a nice bloke apparently, according to our Lisa. Does she know all 24 odd thousand Leicester fans who regularly attend.
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Does she know all 24 odd thousand Leicester fans who regularly attend. I don't think so, just the ones who have a bizarre penchant for masquerading as the most hated man on the internet.
James. Posted 21 January 2008 Author Posted 21 January 2008 As an aside does any one think JTB looks a little bit like Stephen Clemance. Unimpressed. Tim Henman. I will accept. Stephen f**king Clemence. Damn you Pablo!
Manwell Pablo Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Unimpressed.Tim Henman. I will accept. Stephen f**king Clemence. Damn you Pablo! Could be worse, got my haircut on Saturday, apparently I look like Stephen Maguire now. Wahoo.
Alexikokopops Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 As an aside does any one think JTB looks a little bit like Stephen Clemance.Just a tad. I hate home economics. I have a confession to make. When JTB sat in front of us at a recent home game I nearly turned to Fez and said "I thought Clemence was playing?" before I realised who it was a split second later. Monk is trying to play FTSE with me, under the times tables. That truely is delightful
