acooling08 Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 Is it just me or is the simpsons sh*t these days. I remember the 'old' episodes from seasons 1-10 and i sigh. The ones from 2003-ish onwards are poor. I used to watch them continualy and dvd them of the tele, etc. But now i get BORED watching the simpsons like 'patty the lesbian'. wft. the plots are ridiculous, the characters are getting worse and they always seem to be about marge and homer arguing. They definatelypeaked in the late 90's. the show has defiantly lost the magic and skill it once had. i've had my rant now. glad to get that of my chest.
danny. Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 i agree 100%, awesome in the late 90's shite now. and why is noone any older 10 years on??
Floating Fox Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 It's only 'cus new episodes are on Skyone that they are shite.
WetFlannel Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 As the episodes go on, you grow out of it more... I havent watched the simpsons in years, and I dont think I could watch anymore really... It got repetitive a while ago

They've just ran out of good ideas really, the series has run it's course. It was bound to take a turn into the more strange and absurd as they've pretty much exhausted all worthwile plots. Just like in the movie, it's become mainly "Homer Simpson" rather than "The Simpsons"... Unfortunately...
Daggers Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 If it isn't South Park or Family Guy it isn't worth shit.
Samilktray Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 If it isn't South Park or Family Guy it isn't worth shit. Preach.
Guest Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 If it isn't South Park or Family Guy it isn't worth shit. Or Futurama
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 Why stop at the Simpsons, Family Guy has been poor ever since season 4 kicked off (too many references to minor American celebrities that I've not heard of), and I never fully "got" Futurama. Only South Park seems to have got better with age with the introduction of characters like Jimmy and Butters in season 5. Oh, and King of the Hill is pretty good too.

I've just come home from spending the last five hours being paid to watch Family Guy. Well, technically that is not what I was paid to do - but no one can see me in my little room and my Archos is laden with episodes. I love Family Guy.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love Family Guy and still adore the first three seasons, but from then on for me, it all went down hill. The quality of the episodes decreased when Fox realised how popular the programme was and let the writers do what they like, so they weren't working within boundries. One of the reasons why I loved early Family Guy was the fact that it was so close to the knuckle, whereas the new episodes are very bold and not to my taste.
Libertine Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 FG is still decent. Season 5 I thought was dreadful but I've enjoyed 6 and look forward to 7. Simpsons of course, is sh*te now and pretty much comes up with at most one decent line an episode.
Dames Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 When South park satired Family Guy i couldn't watch it in the same way. It has its moments but the gags are all too similar now. South Park is just genius.

I agree with the point about the first 3 seasons being a lot better, but I still like it now. I think as well the gap between the first 3 didn't help - perhaps the writers got rusty? Also now that American Dad is being made alongside you could perhaps argue a lot of ideas that would have been in Family Guy go there. I think South Park has got better with age. I thought it may have been that cos I was younger I missed a lot of the comedy and just liked the more obvious stuff (swearing etc), but watching the old episodes back you can see the humour now is a lot more clever. Some of the new episodes - the world of warcraft and 3 parter with richard dawkins in for example, are really clever. On topic the Simpsons has gone downhill, its a no win for me at 6pm - either I see an old episode I;ve seen before or I see a new one which doesn't hit the heights. Shame the guy who Did Troy McClure/Lionel Hutz died as I would love to see more of those characters.

Alexikokopops Posted 25 January 2008 Posted 25 January 2008 I did not know this. In 1998 his wife shot him and then shot herself

Uhhh, The Simpsons got muuuch better with age too. In fact, South Park seems to run a nearly identical course to The Simpsons quality-wise. It wouldn't surprise me if SP eventually declined in the same way Simpsons has over the last few years...
The Stig Posted 25 January 2008 Posted 25 January 2008 I still love The Simpsons but I can inderstand why people don't like the new ones. I have the first 4 seasons on DVD and they're brilliant!
Daggers Posted 25 January 2008 Posted 25 January 2008 This thread is stupid - but not as stupid as the time I ran cocaine for the Cali Cartel. Do you remember that time? That time I ran cocaine for the Cali Cartel?

I'd rather see South Park finish than to see it decline in quality like the Simpsons.
