Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Playing Man utd in a top of the league clash Beating sunderland 5-2
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 Signing Collymore ... The O Neil jigsaw was complete and we were going to push on for a 5th spot.
Ric Flair Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Playing Man utd in a top of the league clashBeating sunderland 5-2 There was no optimism from me then. I remember just how unhappy I was with the way the team was playing even though we'd somehow gotten to the top of the Premiership, we were playing woeful football and I could tell even then that we had serious problems if Taylor continued to be our manager. A year later and we were about dead and buried.

Man Utd top the table clash with us top of the best league in the world.

Babylon Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Still just how excited did we get ?! Man Utd top the table clash with us top of the best league in the world. Not Very... it was obvious that something wasn't right even though we were top. As Ric says it was dire stuff.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 Never a truer word spoken. The football for that time was terrible. I wasn't happy even though we were top of the league. Can remember playing Villa first game of the season and Ade missing a 1 on 1 but everyone thought it was just nerves ! Still Taylor can always claim that he took us top of the Premiership and kept us around 5th untill that game that never happened with that guy from teletexts ... Forgotten about that completly ...
Lester LXXIV Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 The Bolton debarcle on the opening day of the season was bloody awful too!!
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 Not Very... it was obvious that something wasn't right even though we were top. As Ric says it was dire stuff. To be honest though, i thought Lennon was playing shite. Since he had his big pay rise. He didn't look intrested and was just waiting for Celtic to come in.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 Rob Kelly ... After keeping us up and looking like one of the best and up coming managers in the game.
davieG Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Rob Kelly ... After keeping us up and looking like one of the best and up coming managers in the game. I must have missed that!
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 I must have missed that! Was true ! Kammy and everyone was raving on about him. Then we played Luton first game and we just looked unfit and clueless ... Saying that he had lost that Bloke who was helping him ... Was a Ex Villa manager i think.

Saying that he had lost that Bloke who was helping him ... Was a Ex Villa manager i think. He always looked and sounded totally out of his depth as for 'Kammy' has he ever uttered anything worth while
Ultra Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 To be honest though, i thought Lennon was playing shite. Since he had his big pay rise. He didn't look intrested and was just waiting for Celtic to come in. Lennon was ill and shouldn't have been playing at all. It was yet another example of how far out of his depth the manager was.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 Got one for the older bunch .... Signing Allan Clarke for a British transfer fee ... Did you get all excited by this ?

Saying that he had lost that Bloke who was helping him ... Was a Ex Villa manager i think. Ray Graydon. Didn't actually manage Villa, just played for them.
Ultra Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Got one for the older bunch .... Signing Allan Clarke for a British transfer fee ... Did you get all excited by this ? Possibly, though I was only four at the time. I somehow doubt we'll ever break the transfer record again in my lifetime..
Lets Be having You Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Got one for the older bunch .... Signing Allan Clarke for a British transfer fee ... Did you get all excited by this ? Bloody hell i remember that and his hat trick first game, then going off on a stretcher
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 January 2008 Author Posted 28 January 2008 Bloody hell i remember that and his hat trick first game, then going off on a stretcher Didn't he only save good performances for the big games ? I heard he wasn't intrested most games but when we played Man city in the cup final. All of a sudden he was back to his best.
Pen 3 veteran Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 AHHH.....now then.....in the mists of time.... the end of Bloomfield era of Weller, Wortho, Kember, the Birch etc - ashamed to say I was a young prat who chanted "Bloomfield out" because we'd only finished top half and unlucky in semis of FA cup again, coz we thought that was not good enough(!) with an exciting attacking team with some England internationals (when did we last have one?) I'm chuffed since when other clubs supporters say Leicester were their "second" team in those days. Credit to all you loyal fans making all the games at moment, and hoping new dawn after Milan and Ollie will arrive soon.
Mark Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 There was no optimism from me then. A year later and we were about dead and buried. Remember the game previous that took us top of the table, a 0-0 bore draw away against Sunderland with a strikeforce of Ade Akinbiyi and Trevor Benjamin.. lethal.
Monk Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 The good thing is that this is so far not a false dawn. Based on the last 6 games we are 10th in the form table, which is pretty good going for a new manager who has had to ship out half the squad in the transfer window! Touch wood we will keep improving. Though I agree when we were top of the prem there was absolutely no danger it would last! Tricky Trev and Ade up front. Hardly world beaters!
Master Fox Posted 28 January 2008 Posted 28 January 2008 Playing Man utd in a top of the league clashBeating sunderland 5-2 Absolutely hilarious! I remember going top of the premier league and people were still moaning!!! Some things never change. The good old humble Leicester fan.
