That elusive play-off spot

Anyone honestly think it's still possible? :scarf:

We were 12 points off it after the QPR match, 3 games and 7 points later we are 10 points off it.

So basically we've made up 2 points in 3 games.

IMO It's still possible but I believe the transfer window came a fortnight too late for us to have any realistic chance of making it. :(

Hopefully if we can take 10-12 points in Feb the extra confidence in the side will spur them on for the 3 very difficult away ties in March and then who knows :dunno:

It may be possible.

But i dont want it.

I want us to start winning regularly and with style and proper football in THIS league before we make a challenge for promotion.

This is my view, and people can slate me for it.

Obviously i want us in the Top tier, but i dont want us being a laughing stock(see Derby County FC!)

Lets get the infrastructure and the foundations down THEN think about promotion!!!

I'd be amazed if we got anywhere near it. If you win 3 games then you get up near the top 6, if you lose 3 you go down towards the bottom 3. I just cannot see us not have another 'spell' where we get dragged back downwards.

I would be happy if we finished in the top half, which is the more realistic achievement.

But it's not impossible I suppose, it would be piss funny if we snook in.

I would like a real push towards it! a bit of excitement at the end of the season for once, its nice to have something to play for, but not sure if we will quite make it, but nice to know at this stage of the season we are still in with an shout (be it the smallest of possiblities!) but hey lets be optimistic and see how far we can go!

I love how after one win we talk about play offs. Then after a loss we talk about relegation.

Weird.

After TWO wins and a DRAW actually!!! :D

i still think avoiding relegation is top priority ; the teams around us (preston, sheff, weds, norwich, qpr ) are all picking up now too

no bones about it leicester are still in one hell of a basement dogfight :(

city lose 2 on the bounce, holloway out!!!!

:D

It's nice to see a few rational heads on the forum today

It would be an absolute dream to pass Derby on the way down but that's all it is a dream.

As was said earlier we need to get back to winning ways this season and really go for it next.

Ive said it all pre-season and I have seen nothing at the 29 match point to think differently.

THIS DIVISION IS SHITE

As bad as we have been, its not impossible for sides like us to do a Palace and be unbeaten in 15 or do a Norwich, currently unbeaten in ten. If we did something similar than yes we would be in the shake-up but its highly unlikely.

All I want is for us to have a settled squad by the end of the season and ready for minor changes in the summer and not this constant mad overhaul we seem to be doing every six months.

The further into the season we get the less impact this illusive unbeaten run will have, you only have to see where Norwich's later 10 game run has got them. The later it is the more wins you will need in that run to have a significant impact.

Our home form may have improved dramatically but our away form has seen a significant decline over the same period, Ollie's first game, in November being the last time we manage an away win.

It could be interpreted that Ollie's appoach to the game leaves us more vunerable in away games. I just can't see us having a long winning sequence of games sufficient to make the impact needed.

we've only 8 games left at home, we'd have to win them all to stand any chance. And we all know that isnt going to happen.

You never know! Stranger things have happened. Have a listen to Leon Jackson.

Mathematically of course it's possible.

Realistically, no chance.

We've had a luck readjustment lately but nothing has drastically changed.

Team's not good enough but, more importantly, the philosophy's not good enough either.

We'll not get into the top six scoring marginally less than a goal a game and I've seen no evidence that we're suddenly going to score more.

Our defence still averages one goal a game conceded and I cannot believe that's going to get better so, bottom line, we'll do well to scramble into mid table.

We need to win 12 of our remaining 17 games IMO to get there and possibly a few draws in the other 5 games. Considering we've probably not won anymore than about that amount each season for the past 4 seasons, would indicate it would be quite some feat!

It's nice to see at least that we're the only team in the bottom 13 through 24 with a postive goal difference. Maybe that'll count for something if we do end up in a relegation battle.

Wrong thread this is purely for those that dream of a play-off spot - One Team One Dream :D

I'd be happy with top half. Aiming any higher than that on a long-term basis could distract us from the fact we are only four points above the relegation zone and could be in it after the Plymouth game.

If 6th placed palace continue on their average points this season they will finish with 70.

For us to reach 71 we need to average 2.18 points per game, which is better than drawing your away games and winning your home games.

It won't happen. Even if we continue on the form of the past 3 league games we would not make it.

Screw your heads on guys lets get what we can out of this season in preparation for next season. We will need it as there's going to be a hell of a lot of competition.
