Thracian Posted 9 February 2008 Posted 9 February 2008 Okay I admit it. There are one or two people on here who've been desperate for me to admit I'm wrong and the time has arrived. I said Holloway should be given until next Christmas to shape his own side. Hullfox is to blame. He's criticised me for following my instincts and being too hasty to judge. In deference to that point of view I've been determined to give our new boss every opportunity to create what I want, an attacking side blending promising and developing young players with quality seniors. I now realise I was wrong. Our team has been stripped of it's youngsters - or people who were just starting to emerge and have some inclfuence on games - and instead they've been replaced by ponderous has beens who will never see their best days again. An this when our side was desperate for speed, invention and firepower. I apologise. No excuses. And I'm ashamed. That I should have a part in condoning what we've become will haunt me. Times today I just shut my eyes and tried to sleep. Just tried to pretend the scene on the pitch didn't really represent the wonderful club I once knew. Never again. Never ever again. At least people like Levein and Kelly had the excuse of not having much money to play with. I'd like to mention something today as evidence that our team has improved. There was nothing. Not even little things like throw-ins, ball retention, support for the forwards. Our whole performance was matt grey. There was no sparkle, no colour, no attitude and no ambition. Fryatt for two minutes as a gesture towards all out attack - big deal. If I was Holloway I'd be ashamed.

We're just garbage, we were garbage bar Watford with Allen, bar Wednesday we were garbage with Megson, bar Cov and Bristol City we are garbage with Holloway, there is no quick fire way of fixing this. More importantly from your fake claim that you were wrong, we were garbage with our youngsters in the team and we're garbage without. Theres a deep problem at the club and at the moment I don't know what it is.
Manager Posted 9 February 2008 Posted 9 February 2008 Theres a deep problem at the club and at the moment I don't know what it is. Its called SPIN - which is a excellent for getting politicians elected. A football club, however, needs a manager who can "make good players better" (Alex Ferguson) - who has some tactical nous (?) - who has some semblance of a PLAN - who has a way of playing and then another way if it is not working - Ah - why do I bother - I'm off
Thracian Posted 9 February 2008 Author Posted 9 February 2008 That's 4-3-3 for you. Doesn't work. It never was going to work playing it like that. And 4-4-2 was no better last week. When the options run out perhaps we'll finally recognise the problems and address them.

I don't know why you bother either.
moseeds Posted 9 February 2008 Posted 9 February 2008 Hmmm.. talking of rot, maybe we need to look at the mirror....the one constant (obviously) in the last few years of sh*t football has been fans....!! Maybe if the fans demanded more attractive and/or attacking football rather than cheering on players like Hume who run around like nutters and then become folk heroes because of sheer effort we might actually start to attract the kind of players and managers we deserve. Case in point - Ryan Smith. Remember how excited everyone was when he arrived and made those silky runs which we haven't ever seen again. Well within a few games his lack of defensive prowess and unwillingness to "get stuck in" and of course "**** 'em up" resulted in pretty much the whole crowd jeering him. Today Hume ran around like his usual self. And all of a sudden it occured to me who he reminds me of - Darren "the headless chicken" Huckerby. He runs and he runs. You can even argue his excessive running is the reason why the pitch is so bad. But what does he do? Hume is one of our better players but for me the heaps of praise lavished on Hume sums up the type of football the fans expect and the kinds of players we want in our starting 11. Is it then any wonder why we can't actually attack or win a game? Every other team I have watched in this division has the ability to slow down games and actually notice there is a ground to pass the ball along. Today even when we were attacking the only method of getting the ball from one player to the next was the old "hoof". The fans have a part to play in this too - in one game under Levein no idea which one they've all blurred into one - the team did actually manage to string some passes together, only to be booed until one player hoofed the ball straight into attack. That wasn't just one occasion it happens again and again. It seems the moment the players come onto the pitch the manager's intstructions go out of the window and the crowd begin to dictate the kind of football that should be played, with obviously rubbish consequences. Now I know Leicester are no Brazil. But if we demand aggressive "in yer face" football played by players who don't know any other variety of the beautiful game, then how on earth do you expect them to 1) entertain you and 2) win?! Also Holloway was clueless today...which has nothing to do with the fans...

Howard - useless (Remind me again why we paid over a milion for an old stirker with about 2 years left in him, Jewell must be laughing!), Hayles - Should have done much better, same with Oakley, in fact, the whole squad!... Could we not have spent the 2.5 mil we spent on howard, hayles and oakley, on young talent, now we have dj back, id rather stick him up front with hume, or dare i say it, fryatt, or even trying one of the younger ones, like ashley chambers or billy mckay? (its a long shot i know, but we should have tried that before we spent over 2 milliion on the current shower of shite!)

The fact we failed to do so raises serious issues about the management of this club.

We have changed chairmen, managers, players and yet we are still playing awfully. What can be wrong. I can't identify it, I can't think how the problem will be resolved quickly but it has too. Someone needs to identify the problem and get it sorted quickly.
Flynny Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Watching the game yesterday I honestly thought of you for a second, Thracian. How static, unmotivated and unlike a team we look must be torture when watching the kids go out and play like world-beaters, and just for a second I could see why at certain times you've said "fuck it, play the youth team, they can't be much worse". I don't subscribe to doing so for a second, but I'd have King or Weso in for Clemence anytime.

The fact we failed to do so raises serious issues about the management of this club. Why don't you make it clear for everyone. It is the management at fault, it is Ian Holloway at fault! With MM's madness a close second.

He had no urgency and jogged to take corners in the dying minutes when we were 1-0 down, just like Clemence does now. Hence he got shipped out to Millwall, from Derby and is now in Div 1, certainly not setting the world alight. I speak for 1 fan (me), and all I want is high tempo football, people following up Howard's knock down's, and a midfield capable of reading the game and looking for the follow up ball. If we had players who could pass the ball to OUR OWN PLAYERS I would appreciate it. Rubbish, the players dictate the game because they are stupid / scared /not as good as they think they are.
Webbo Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Thracian, I some times go out of my way to defend you, but I have to say you do talk a lot of shite. You moaned about Megson's defensive style and yet you can't say that Holloways that way at all, in fact he played 3 up front and then 4 up front in the second half. Their goalkeeper made 2 good saves and a number of average ones, we had a stonewall penalty turned down. We weren't as bad as the doom mongers are saying. All this talk of sacking the manager is absolutely twattish.

blue blood Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 the damage has been done over the past 10 years. fcukin hell, end of. He said this she said that, man i dont give a flying fcuk. it will take a long time to recover from the past 10 years, look at sheffield weds/notts forrest etc. Oh yea and if you people think lcfc have a devine right to be a big club go support man u or liverpool or someone because its not going to happen. We are what we are. We are a division 1 club, with the odd flirtation in the top league every 10 years or so. We have been like this for the past 100 years and i cant see that changing because ollie and milan are here or because hume plays on the right or because we play 4-3-3 or because we have a muddy pitch or any other bullshit. End of.

He's been calling for positive attacking football ever since I've been on this forum and yet when we go gung ho at a team he still moans.

Just that he writes about it a lot more and dupes people into thinking it's some magic formula.
