DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 25 February 2008 Posted 25 February 2008 I've just been talking to a friend of mine who took her 13 year old cousin to the game on Saturday, and whilst waiting outside the ground for the coppers to let them get on to a bus back to the City Centre, was asked by a Leicester fan what he thought of the game, and when he replied 'I thought we were shit' (being autistic he's prone to straight talking) was punched to the ground and stamped on. If your own fans do that to children supporting the SAME TEAM, what hope is there? Something tells me there is more to the story than that. Why would someone belt another fan for an honest assessment of the game?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Something tells me there is more to the story than that. Why would someone belt another fan for an honest assessment of the game? Why would someone attack anyone for any reason? The excuse for wanton violence at football games is flimsy enough as it is. Ultimately, if you're the sort of person that does that, whether you're attacking an opposition fan or 'one of your own', does it make that much difference? They're just a stranger, after all. If you're that desperate to vent your frustrations I imagine you get less fussy about your targets. I didn't think adults would get so unfussy as to attack a child, but it happened
harpendenfox Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 One of the most depressing things from my perspective on Saturday was yet again sitting in front of an idiot who persisted in effing and blinding at our team virtually from the kick off. I don't mind a bit of swearing, and neither does my 11 year old son, who was with me. I don't consider myself a prude. A bit of your sh*t aaaaah can be a laugh. But this fella, who will have a heart attack before he's 25 if he goes on like this, puts me off football. He was so full of hatred for our players that you have to wonder why he bothers supporting the team in the first place. Yes he's paid his money blah, blah, blah, but that doesn't entitle him to ruin our afternoon with his vitriol. Perhaps I should have quietly asked him to tone it down a bit, but I thought he'd just turn his hatred on to us. We just moved to the edges at half-time. As a footnote, my son suggested we give up our season tickets next season. I think partly that's a reflection on the football we're playing, but partly also to the offensive behaviour of this idiot behind me. Good natured banter with the opposition fans is fine. Vicious, aggressive behaviour, either physical or verbal, is not acceptable. It is, at the end of the day, only a game, and people should not vent their frustrations with their day to day lives between 3 - 5 pm on a Saturday.

There's a lot of things that I don't like about football in 2008 but the sheer blind fury of people like this is probably the one thing that puts me off going above any other. Even when watching games on the telly, it's amazing how often you'll see some lunatic screeching blue murder (often in the company of their own children) at an opposition player taking a corner or throw in. As for the baiting of the opposition fans (and I don't mean having a laugh with them and taking the piss, I mean the threats, the feeble attempts at intimidation, etc) , it's just ridiculous. I know it's the in-thing to demonise other supporters ("CovSCUM" indeed), but the only difference between their fans and ours is postcode - the people who scream at them might as well be screaming at a mirror
Shrenchel Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I know it's the in-thing to demonise other supporters ("CovSCUM" indeed), but the only difference between their fans and ours is postcode - the people who scream at them might as well be screaming at a mirror You what?! It's not the 'in thing'. Rivalries bordering on hatred, between clubs in close vicinity to one another has existed in football for decades and decades, it's part of the identity of a football club. If anything it's nowhere near as 'bad' now as it has been previously. There used be thousands and thousands of city fans singing about how much they hate forest, giving cov the Vs or inviting derby away fans to join them in the pen, now it's the minority. Fair play you've got your opinion but if you've grown up in the culture of a football club, part of which is the hatred of certain clubs then it's understandable how a lot of people don't consider the only difference between us to be our postcodes. I admit it's jarring when geezers around you spend their whole time tryna wind up the away fans, but it's hardly a new problem and relatively a really minor annoyance when you consider all the things wrong with Leicester/football in general.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a healthy rivalry with other clubs, particular local ones. I have grown up in the culture of the football club, and maybe when I was younger I used to buy into the whole hating other teams thing, but the older I get the sillier it seems. You can have a rivalry without it descending into violence and abuse. Like with the guy that posted above, it's not really a minor annoyance when you've got some headcase sat next to you screaming like a banshee for 90 minutes

DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 6 March 2008 Posted 6 March 2008 Why would someone attack anyone for any reason? Maybe they were Croatian.

maddog Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Take one to know one, eh doggy? It depends. If the weird one is actually the normal one and the normal one is acutally the weird one. Who knows really
Corky Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 I know. Hooligans are well renowned for wearing their club's colours so that they can distinguish each other in combat. Dunno what these jokers are playing at... They can whack each other with their jester hats and smudge the other's face painting
Alexikokopops Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Video of the trouble released by the policehttp://www.coventrytelegraph.net/videos-pi...92746-23328998/ That pub is the Spoons in Earlsdon. Kings Arms I think its called. My mate lived round the corner from that last year and was there when it all kicked off
Fosse Boy Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 They can whack each other with their jester hats and smudge the other's face painting Not to mention deafen each other with those frightfully loud kiddy horns.

Dunno what these jokers are playing at... I don't know if they do wear their teams colours as it would make them really easy to identify and catch by the police. I'm prettysure that the Millwall supporters that came on here after the Home game with Millwall said they would leave people being peaceful with club colours on alone, it was just people give it the big un in normal clothes they were after. Might be wrong though
