I think we have all been saying that for a few years though. i agree ; i don't think the individual players are too bad at all ( certainly championship standard ) the problems are more to do with the way the team has been assembled in this "barry fry" wholesale team buy manner stick with the main make up of the team and try to work on the tactics and commitment huge clear outs and more multi buys will only continue the mistakes already made ad nauseum

DJ - Are you joking ? The biggest waste of money since Ade. Got pace about it. Can't finish and is too lightweight. Agree with Jimmy, Fryatt should be starting. Howard, DJ and Hayles are doing fook all.

Fat Ron Posted 25 February 2008 Posted 25 February 2008 I think the question would be who would be the 5 to bring in and who would they replace! In all, our squad has potential. But potential is worthless unless the players start to realise, believe and show that potential. Ollie was right in cutting dead wood, said it months ago and was glad to see him take action but I think he has added wrong players to the areas we needed to improve. To get the best out of Steve Howard we needed 2 quality wingers, or at least 2 wingers that have already adapted to the English game. The 2 we got, look quality on occasions but are no way near consistant enough or settled in England for a Relegation battle in the Championship. Struggling to understand why we bought 2 strikers in the window when we already had Fryatt, Hume, Campbell. Howard I thought would be a decent addition but Hayles baffled me. He is only going to be used as a bit part player with no long term future at the club, Fryatt is sitting on his arse doing nothing yet could be as effective if not more so that Hayles as that bit part player, whats more he is young and has a career to play for. Alnwick, not convinced, maybe we were spoilt with Fulop but I am not brimming with confidence with this kid in goal. Oakley, even at 30 I feel is a great signing. Problem is he is playing along side Clem who is visably low on confidence and is not having a good time of it at all. IMO Clem should be stripped of the Captaincy so that he can concentrate on getting his own game right. Oakley should take the armband and gee the players up from the middle. I also feel that with his low confidence Clem should be pushed further upfield with Oakley playing a holding role, Clem would IMO gain confidence by effectivly being given a free role in the middle and be able to get forward and attempt to score goals. Oakley has the sense and the confidence to sit in and keep it tight. The problem really does stem from the wings, without proper wingers whipping balls into Howard he will be useless. Bring back the loanees and let them loose. Otherwise we will be watching hoofball until May at least.
