ASH17LCFC Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Yet still better than Fryatt's. By more than double. Howard has hardly been shocking has he? Give over. And i'd say DJ does alot more than Fryatt. The only thing Fryatt has over DJ is his first touch. Every game i have seen him play in i thought he has been poor. Coventry did it for me, just stood there moaning and complaining to the ref every 5 seconds. He has been a s*&t signing in my eyes. Derby got him at the right time but now he way past it. DJ has nothing but pace my friend. Fryatt can take players on and has the better first touch. DJ is a striker remember and a striker job is too score goals.
Simi Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Fryatt can take players on and has the better first touch.DJ is a striker remember and a striker job is too score goals. Well, that's an interesting contradiction.
Thracian Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 unfortunately I am not as eloquent with the written word as many of you within this forum clearly are, I simply feel that Matty has more natrual talent than any of our current squad, including our much lauded youngsters, he retains possession superbly well and unlike Thracian, who is clearly the font of all knowledge, I think he has within him a very good eye for goal, I would also disagree about his "chances" within the starting 11, I think a player needs a run of, say, 10 games to form a partnership and get in the goalscoring groove, all this is of course my opinion and one that is clearly not shared either within Foxestalk or indeed by our Manager. You dont have to apologise for your writing to anyone and I for one have stacks of time for your opinion. Unfortunately there are lots of players who have natural talent - Ryan Smith, Ade Djiziri, perhaps even Laczko but that doesn't make them championship footballers. No-one doubts Fryatt's skill. He came here with stacks of confidence having scored goals galore in lower grade football and hit the groud running with six vital goals and even a couple of assists. Then what happened? Two things. He suffered what seemed to be a complex foot injury. And opponents started looking at the videos and noting his strengths/weaknesses. I don't know how much that injury has continued to limit him. But his weaknesses include: a) Being fairly slow. b) Not being much threat in the air c) Generally limited shooting range. d) Not especially strong on the ball. e) Not a near post specialist or even any sort of threat there. f) Not a great spotter of runs and therefore a threat with his passing/lay-offs. Some strikers, you see, lay passes off quickly. They do it once, twice, three times and only on the fourth might they try to beat someone and have a shot. Defenders are quickly in two minds about what to do. Fryatt however rarely releases the ball quickly. He's a dribbler and once people limit his individual progress there's not much threat left which is why I said he needed a specialist coach. Conclusion by opponents: If they keep Fryatt outside the box and marshall him with a fastish, robust defender then he's not likely to do a lot of damage.

He has decent control but goes nowhere with it imo. And you keep scuppering your defence of Fryatt by saying it's a strikers job to score goals.
ASH17LCFC Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Well, that's an interesting contradiction. DJ fan club i see. Ched your just one of them typical never say owt bad about one of our big money signing fans and when they finally leave you call them shit.

You stated it's a job for strikers to score goals, you say DJ isn't doing that. Yet you want Fryatt in the team, who's scored less than him in more games. Your argument is poor in my opinion. "One of them" Am I? Sure.

Fryatt was a fairly big signing wasnt he ? And it was a pretty big contradiction. Your just one of those Fryatt fanboys

DJ goals btw Palace, Watford and Preston have all been from 2 yards out. Even that sappleton clown couldn't miss from there
ASH17LCFC Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Fryatt was a fairly big signing wasnt he ?And it was a pretty big contradiction. Your just one of those Fryatt fanboys Fryatt wasn't a million pound golden boy and he played a huge part with us staying up that year might i add. Fryatt has a big fan club i might add, most fans feel the same way. Howard and DJ are too over rated for my liking.
Simi Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 So who would you rather have up front then ... DJ or Fryatt ? DJ goals btw Palace, Watford and Preston have all been from 2 yards out. Even that sappleton clown couldn't miss from there Sign of a good striker I'd rather see DJ at the moment. I'm willing to give Fryatt another chance should he be given it, but I've seen nothing that makes me think he deserves to start at the moment.

Flynny Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Why is Fryatt considered a good finisher? I've never understood this. He mostly shoots from 15 yards out and not very hard. If he could tee up other players he'd be a fantastic asset with his dribbling and'd play every game, but though he opens up the field his passing isn't great and he can be over-selfish for a player with a weak shot.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 I wish he'd said Foxes fans give him a lift so I could offer to drive him to Crewe.
clazkel Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 I have never seen DJ run from midfield and create chances for himself and howard, whereas Fryatt creates chances. DJ seems to wait for the ball to come to him. Fryatt is a better all round player, he might not have as much pace as DJ but he is a better all round player. I think Fryatt deserves to be in the starting 11, i don't mind whether Howard or DJ are dropped but i think Fryatt should start.

AyewJoking Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 The people only chant his name because the strikers on the pitch arent doing anything Good to read he wants to stay and fight for a place though, hopefully we'll see the best of Matty Fryatt.
clazkel Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Who for exactly? For whoever he is up front with. Quite often he comes deep if he doesn't get the service he should be getting and creates chances for the team. He has confidence to run with ball and take players on unlike alot of the players currently in the team. We need more players who will run with the ball and open the game up, things are too static at present. Wesolowski is another player who tries to run with the ball and as a result it opens the game up.

Koke Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 "Fryatt is a good finisher" is a myth and should be treated in the same manner as the-game-we-never-played at the beginning of the season.

Fryatt has one official assist in the Championship this season and that's part of the reason we're where we are in the League.
Fatbloke Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 That`s a little harsh, Matt`s part in our league position is miniscule. he has`nt played enough to be burdened with such a stigma, the lack of genuine width and a creative, attacking midfielder, coupled with a lack of goals from ALL our strikers is where the real problem lies.
clazkel Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Fryatt has one official assist in the Championship this season and that's part of the reason we're where we are in the League. You can't blame Fryatt for us only winning one game in the last five, he hasn't started.
