Fryatt - Foxes fans give me a massive boost

That`s a little harsh, Matt`s part in our league position is miniscule. he has`nt played enough to be burdened with such a stigma, the lack of genuine width and a creative, attacking midfielder, coupled with a lack of goals from ALL our strikers is where the real problem lies.

Fryatt's made 20 League appearances this season including 17 starts and has two League goals and one assist to his name. If that satisfies you for a frontline striker it sure doesn't satisfy me.

I don't say there couldn't be contributory factors of one sort or another. I don't even say he wouldn't do better at a club like Crewe where they play a totally different sort of football to us. But here, now he's not delivering and that has been the case for a long, long time.

It satisfies nobody apart from the Fryatt fanboys.

I think I started a thread about a year ago on Fryatt and I said then that I thought he was overrated. In early January I was slated in the 'Christmas Turkey' thread for saying something to the same note.

I actually like the style in which Fryatt plays, he can hold the ball up and he has great ball control.

My problem is that since he scored that goal after 9 seconds against Wolves? last season he has not looked sharp, and well, he just doesn't seem to FIT anywhere. He's clearly not a midfielder but doesn't seem to have the conviction to play up front. He has potential, yes, but right now I really don't think he warrents a first team place.

I would be very very happy to be proven wrong and I hope it works out for the lad because I do like him, but as I say, I just don't see how he could bag us more goals than the current bunch.

You right in what you saying.

And it was against Preston me thinks. Not Wolves.

:crylaugh:

But I agree, in our situation what harm would a run in the team do? Can't get any worse can it ??

From his Blog

Foxes fans give me a massive boost

I had a run-out with the reserves in our 1-0 win against Walsall this week and it's always nice to get 90 minutes of football under your belt.

Obviously I want to stake my claim for a regular first team place and I need to perform well in everything I do at Leicester. In any job you have to keep on top of what you do and football is no different.

If the gaffer picks me I will do my bit and if I'm not in the starting 11 I'll just keep on working hard and making sure I'm ready whenever I'm called. In the end these things tend to take care of themselves.

I have to say the fans have been brilliant for me ever since I came to the club. They are fantastic supporters of the team, but I appreciate the way they have treated me individually.

It's a massive boost at times when you begin to doubt yourself and they get behind you. They were chanting my name the other week and that was amazing to hear.

From the team's point of view, it was very disappointing to go down 2-0 at Coventry last weekend, especially after the team played so well to beat Norwich 4-0 the week before. Consistency seems to have been a bit of a problem since I joined the club.

We're always in this cycle of playing well one week and poorly the next. Of course, when you're struggling in the league home advantage makes a difference, so sometimes we've been doing well at home and then slipping up away.

OLLIE NEEDS A TIME OUT chocolate bar lol

Fryatt certainly isn't a bad player - and perhaps the way we've appoached games this season and last hasn't helped him. One criticism of him is that he doesn't seem to be in the right position at the right time to get on the end of things. He's done a lot of work outside the box, which I think has been partly down to the lack of movement and creativity the team has shown.

I think he's probably at a stage of his career where he needs a change. He might go on do a good job at somewhere like Preston and Wolves (clubs he's been linked to in the past) but he's probably going to be most effective playing alongside a pacey striker to act as a foil, who is competent - i.e. not Elvis Hammond.

I think today proved beyond doubt that DJ has the cows arse / banjo problem and I`m certain that Matty Fryatt would have waltzed around the keeper and slotted home in the same situation, he has more skill in his little finger than "Dud" has in his whole body !

Posted

At the moment, I think he's our 4th best striker behind Dj, Howard and Hume. He needs to prove that he's better than those.

I think he's shown glimpses of what he can do but he's far too inconsistent, but I suppose that might change when he matures as a footballer. I don't think we should sell him because he's still young and can improve. If we sold him it might come back to haunt us in a few years.

He hasn't had the best of times at Leicester, somebody needs to show some faith in him. Under the constant uncertainty around the managership, he's never really been given a chance under any manager. If he gets some confidence and gets a few goals, who knows. :dunno:

I can only remember one time where Fryatt has been one on one with the keeper this season and that was at S****horpe and he missed. He may have more skill than Campbell but you will hardly ever find Fryatt in the same positions that Campbell finds himself in.

I seem to remember him scoring against Bristol City when he was one on one.

Where've you been? Hume's a right midfielder now

Fryatt isn't good enough his record speaks for itself!!

over the last 2 seasons he has scored 7 goals!!

Campbell has scored 5 this season while being out injured for 3months!!

2 league goals in 17 league starts is simply not good enough for a striker at ANY level

if you include sub appearances thats 2 goals in 20 a strike rate of 1 in 10 is appalling compared to Barry Hayles 1 in 4 ratio!!!

Fryatt any day for me over DJ. He contributes so much for the team. In fact when he first came he was more of a threat because he stayed higher up the pitch. So far DJ is too light weight and inconsistent. He should score more because he contributes less.

I think that he will benefit from Hendrie though and he (as does Fryatt) needs a run in the team.

I am a fan of Fryatt, he is a very clever footballer, but you are right, he is a striker, and hasn't scored enough goals. Last season he was injured, and looked towards the end of the season when he came back, but this year, he hasn't done it.

Looking at the other strikers- DJ will run around trying to unsettle defenders (it worked brillaintly against Norwich), Hayles is a last 15-20 minute man, Howard, given the right service, will score plenty, and Hume is better from further out, rather than in the box. Elvis is easily the best of the lot, got everything :crylaugh:

I do though like the fact we are still getting behind Matty. It would be easy just to moan at him, and some do, but the fact we still sing his name, and back him, shows good support. Whether he is still here next season remains to be seen, but I would like him to stay, because he can still bring something to the team. If he sets up, or plays a part in many goals next season he will have done something.

MATTY FRYATT DU DU DU DU!! :scarf::scarf::scarf:

I'd Like to see Matty Fryatt get at least 15 - 20 minutes, I think he deserves a chance.

I was impressed by Campbell yesterday because although he missed that one on one :frusty: he was a real menace and the defence couldn't cope with his pace.

But i would like to see Matty Fryatt at some point Tuesday night against Preston.

is 17 league starts not a chance then?

he has had a chance and done nothing with it!!

Like we do a lot of players ?

I've given up trying to diswade folks from their Fraytt love-in, he a poor player... three years, over sixty games and people still say "give him a chance", "if only he had a bit more quality around him", "he's not playing in the right position"... frankly i dont think anything will convince the Fryatt faithful that he's really not all that!

Absolutely untrue.

The guy is not in the team for a reason.

DJ caused there centre halves hundreds more problems than Fryatt would have done yesterday.

Posted

Sorry, but **** off anybody who started singing Fryatt's name after DJ missed a couple of chances.

How the hell is that supposed to help any players confidence? That was the only thing that really pissed me off about yesterday. I hope one day some of our fans see through their deluded views of Fryatt.

Fryatt is a very clever, nifty little striker who likes to link the play up but can also run onto flick on's. His only problem is his pace. If he had pace, he would score more goals and would be in the Premiership, nevermind starting every week for us. I'm afraid nowadays, everybody needs pace apart from the likes of Sheringham who in fact reminds me a bit like Fryatt. I thinks it's time he should be given a go ahead of Campbell and if he is left on the bench he should always come on ahead of Hayles. But I guess because he has no pace then he is just not good enough.
