Narborough Bod Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 anyone know who Cov's game in hand is against? not sure but 3 of their next 4 are away, at Soton, Sheff Weds and Watford - tasty!!
breadandcheese Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 anyone know who Cov's game in hand is against? I think Sheffield Wednesday (again), which is quite useful.
Benji Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 bottom teams are all playing each other recently funny how it always works out that way
Mort Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 About time we had some luck. Should have beaten Preston, should have hammered Brizzle and should have beaten Soton. Second penalty of the season says it all. Too right mate... just so long as Ollie takes the right lessons from the game, then again his initial approach today was very much the sort of thing that a manager will try to frustrate a technically adept team (although i think it's wrong headed as i think you should fight the battle in the middle of the park not deep in you own half) so it's not likely to be repeated against Colchester or Scunny.
Jimmy Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 I think Sheffield Wednesday (again), which is quite useful. not really as no matter what result we drop a place closer to the relegation zone OS match report Leicester City moved back out of the relegation zone with an impressive 4-1 victory over promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon. After going a goal down through Robert Koren's 22nd minute deflected shot, the home side were reduced to 10-men when Luke Moore was dismissed for a lunge on Richard Stearman. The dominant visitors showed bags of spirit and character to level thanks to Gareth McAuley's first goal since October before Steve Howard took control after the interval. The target man fired home an impressive hat-trick as the Foxes ran riot to help Ian Holloway's men record their first victory in four matches and send the Blue Army home delighted. Dean Kiely dashed off his line to thwart the returning Barry Hayles after he had beaten the Baggies offside trap inside two minutes. At the other end, the hosts earned two successive corners but City's defence stood strong to avert the danger. The Foxes then earned a corner of their own in the eighth minute when Hayles' shot was deflected behind. The Baggies had Leon Barnett to thank a minute later when Hayles capitalised on an under-hit header by the central defender, before rounding Kiely only to see his goal-bound effort hacked off the line by the retreating Barnett for a flag-kick. Steve Howard was booked for a foul on Barnett on 10 minutes then Matty Fryatt volleyed over the bar two minutes later after Joe Mattock's free-kick had been headed clear by Shelton Martis. Do-Heon Kim was cautioned for a late lunge on Richard Stearman in the 15th minute and from the resulting free-kick, skipper Matt Oakley shot over the bar from 20-yards. Paul Henderson raced off his line to gather Robert Koren's deflected effort off Stearman on 19 minutes with Luke Moore ready to pounce. Jonathan Greening's pull back from the right-hand by-line eluded everyone soon after before Gaz McAuley's timely tackle denied Roman Bednar. However, Tony Mowbray's men did take the lead in the 22nd minute when Koren's deflected shot from the edge of the area wrong-footed Henderson and flew into the back of the net for the opener. The Foxes came within inches of levelling matters on 32 minutes but after meeting Fryatt's cross on the edge of the area, Oakley was unfortunate to see his drilled shot graze the left-hand post with Kiely beaten. However, the home side were reduced to 10-men in the 35th minute when Moore was shown a straight red for a lunge on Stearman, which left the defended grounded for several minutes. A superb one-handed save from Kiely denied Fryatt but from the resulting corner by Hayles, Joe Mattock swung in a wonderful ball for McAuley, who rose above his marker at the back post to plant a thunderous downward header past the Republic of Ireland 'keeper for the leveller on 38 minutes. Both Paul Robinson and Lee Hendrie were booked in the 41st minute before Howard's looping header was saved under his own bar by Kiely. In first half stoppage time, a wonderful save from Henderson denied Robinson before Albrechtsen headed over from the resulting corner. Hayles was booked in stoppage time for a foul on Martis as the game threatened to boil over but it remained 1-1 at the break after a lively 45 minutes. Both sides remained unchanged at the start of the second half as Kiely easily gathered Stearman's driven right-wing cross on 50 minutes. Two minutes later, Howard headed narrowly over from Stearman's hanging cross then Hendrie volleyed wide in the 55th minute. But City made it 2-1 on 59 minutes after Hendrie had been brought down in the area by Greening. Howard stepped up under pressure to fire the ball past Kiely from the spot much to the delight of the travelling fans. Oakley was booked a minute later then Kiely saved from Patrick Kisnorbo. The Baggies made a double change on 62 minutes with Gera and Kim making way for Pele and Sherjill MacDonald respectively. Kiely saved comfortably from Fryatt in the 66th minute then Kevin Phillips replaced Bednar three minutes later. Henderson saved from Phillips on 75 minutes before a last-gasp tackle from Mattock denied Koren. But City all but sealed the game as a contest in the 79th minute when a quick passing move involving Oakley and Hendrie, resulted in Howard firing the ball past Kiely for his second and his side's third. The Baggies went down to nine men in the 81st minute when Martis limped off with a hamstring injury. James Wesolowski replaced Oakley on 83 minutes before Greening was booked for a foul on Stearman. Howard completed his hat-trick four minutes from time when the big man pounced on Hayles' through ball and shot past Kiely for his side's fourth. Hendrie and Howard were replaced by Kelvin Etuhu and Iain Hume late on as the visitors continued to push forward in search of further goals. Kiely saved from Hayles in injury time but the damage had already been done and City picked up a vital three points. Moreton Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 I still think that this is just a one of game, like when we played Norwich. Next week when Hull come to the Walkers we will be seeing the usual dribble
Narborough Bod Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 My thoughts exactly. have these callers just got off the sunshine bus?
Milky Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 anyone know who Cov's game in hand is against? Sheff Wed again!
breadandcheese Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 not really as no matter what result we drop a place closer to the relegation zone I see what you're saying, but I take the view that no matter what, with the game in hand, we can only slip one place, rather than into the relegation zone. Either way, the games in hand are irrelevant, it's all in our hands. We've got to play a few teams around us, so S****horpe, Colchester and Wednesday, we've got to perform.
Benjani Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 I bet theres someone out there who has gone to 3 Leicester games this season - Watford and Norwich at home and West Brom away. haha He's our lucky charm
MC Prussian Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 This is so Leicester City Random Football Club. This team still has massive potential to scare the shit out of every sane supporter.
Eastern Fox Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 fooking amazing result. We finally got some luck, which Ollie was complaining about our lack of in his column. We must must must use this momentum to win our next few games. Nothing is impossible, bring on Hull!
Frenzied Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 Too right mate... just so long as Ollie takes the right lessons from the game, then again his initial approach today was very much the sort of thing that a manager will try to frustrate a technically adept team (although i think it's wrong headed as i think you should fight the battle in the middle of the park not deep in you own half) so it's not likely to be repeated against Colchester or Scunny. Agreed. I'm sure he'll be more attack minded against Hull. Was impressed with how quick he reacted in changing it around when they had a player sent though.
RedOnRed Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 Excellent result for you guys today. Hopefully this can kickstart things into a good run for you. After thrashing WBA away that's certainly possible.
The Reverend Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 Bloody ecstatic, it was coming no doubt, to do it against the best team in the division is brilliant and will hopefully get the lads confidence up, and we can go on a streak. Having finally come from behind to win, hopefully we can finally get back to back wins.
Jonezy Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 Brilliant, just brilliant!!! Not feeling numb today......
maddog Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 But we are still just 1 point above the drop zone. Sheff Wed still have 2 games in hand and Cov 1. If we go on our usual bad run after a great win like all other false dawns this season we will still go down.
ForestFilbert Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 I still think that this is just a one of game, like when we played Norwich. Next week when Hull come to the Walkers we will be seeing the usual dribble There is just no pleasing some people is there? We win 4-1 away at one of the favourites to get promoted and still its worth a negative comment. Lets enjoy it now that it has happened!!!! Blimey................... Am I on my own here at the frustration at such comments?????
STUHILL Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 Frustrated yeh, but I also get frustrated with those who get carried away with one Win too. We need to enjoy this but realise it means nothing unless we can build on it. Something we've failed to do all season, so it's still a massive task. Negative is not the way to be though today, we have just had a great victory against someone we didnt expect to beat. Should take positives and focus on next game! There will always be negative comments though. Just in some ppls nature! If we stay up, ppl still be calling for Ollies sacking! So yeh frustrated but not suprised!
AmericanScott Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 I guess that guitar pick Ollie was given when he came into office was utter shite. Thank god he's thrown that away! Also, thank my new haircut i got today
jet-plane Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 There is just no pleasing some people is there? We win 4-1 away at one of the favourites to get promoted and still its worth a negative comment. Lets enjoy it now that it has happened!!!! Blimey...................Am I on my own here at the frustration at such comments????? I really hope you are. We have to guard against suddenly thinking we are a proper team. Proper teams do it consistently. We haven't for 4 years.
